GATHER: Callamere Stall - Firelizards (NPC Giselle/V'rex)

Steelsilver

Date Reference: Gather starts 8.28.6.1.

IC: One trader caravan was eagerly awaited every Mid-Summer Gather and the Callamere compound was always a sight to see. The large paddocks housing the Callamere White runners - their coats glinting brightly in the morning sun as they tossed their heads and flicked their tails. Near that was the large, text like structure where the wher-pups for Bonding were available to be seen, watched over by Revai’s trio of golds and beyond that again was the firelizard stall - the roof of the open-fronted tent festooned with firelizards trilling their merry song, darting through the air like colourful flags.

The Turn, it was not Sythy manning the stall but rather her replacement, her younger sister Giselle, the blonde-haired woman the spitting image of her father, Riv. Tall but lean, her blonde hair braided and wearing a light blue belted tunic, she struck a cheerful figure as she carefully fussed over the trays of eggs that had been arranged and marked up with their colour and prices. On her shoulder, draped with casual elegance was the unmistakable shape of a Callamere gold firelizard who inspected her Mistress’s handiwork with a discerning eye.

When they were finally ready to go, the barriers were taken down, the gangway cleared and the stall was open to all!

V'rex had been eyeing the Callamere stall with interest, trying to work up the nerve to approach, and finally, watching a few people approach and have their questions answered, found the nerve to do so himself. "Ah- excuse me, Lady?" He ventured.

"Yes, how can I help?" Giselle spoke with a smile as she looked up at the newcomer.

I'm sometimes slow and have the memory of a sieve at times, so don't hesitate to poke me if you think you've been forgotten!

"Fair skies." V'rex answered automatically, taking a moment to let his gaze wander over the display of firelizards and eggs both. "I, ah... I've the marks, and I- I was wondering if I could perhaps buy a little brown fellow? They can't be much harder than a dragon..." He added.

Nutmeg

"For any particular reason? What about firelizards - especially the Callameres - takes your eye?" It was non-accusatory, spoken casually as though having a cheerful conversation.

"Their intelligence, Lady." V'rex responded, regarding the firelizards still. "I've seen plenty of the creatures, but everyone says that Callamere breeds the best. And- dragons don't fit everywhere, but surely a firelizard can."

He paused. "I'm interested in Callameres because they- they're a step above the wild beasts, and because I think- I think they could be useful?"

Nutmeg

"At the moment - yes we do. Down the line it's entirely possible that someone else focuses on a a new breeding but at the moment, our firelizards are the only known specialised breeding." It wasn't boastful, it was matter of fact. Callameres were popular and expensive for a reason. "If trained appropriately and with the proper dedication, yes they can be exceptionally useful. Were you thinking of any particular use?"

"I- I was thinking companion, Lady, companion and messenger if needed." V'rex answered honestly. "What would- would be the best color for that?"

Nutmeg

She appreciated the honesty of the answer and it showed. "Well, browns and blues tend to be the calmer colours and more inclined to be a bit of a lap pet. Greens are more expressive and a bit more "fun" so to speak, but are a little bit of work as they can be easily distracted at times. If you're thinking you need a degree of reliability, I would definitely be suggesting brown or blue."

"I- I get anxious. Some- sometimes." V'rex admitted. "I- I was thinking that a firelizard- something alive and small and friendly- that I could teach it to be there, distract me." A pause. "Bonus if- if I can teach it to take messages."

Nutmeg

A more serious edge had come about Giselle's features as she listened to the man, nodding a little to show she had taken it on board. "So you want something calmer then. I would definitely recommend either blue or brown. Greens are as sweet as they can be but they can be rather overexcitable at times. You want something that has a quietly reassuring presence." There was nothing wrong with wanting a firelizard more solely as a companion rather than with a working use in mind, but you had to make the right match. Much like purchasing a canine or runner for a specific use.

"I- I can afford a brown." V'rex offered. "If you'll let me." It would definitely be a while til he could afford other things, but it would be feasible. "May I?"

Nutmeg

"A brown is certainly a sensible choice - they're calm and quick to learn. They have a steadfast quality to them and we've noticed our browns tend to be very observant. Have you kept a firelizard before? Or have any other pets?" Giselle's voice, though brusque with professionalism, was still polite and friendly. Clearly these were questions she asked of everyone.
