Mendl smiled at her classmates. "Rusalth is pretty. And Fogryth--I just love his coloring! Congratulations, I'm so happy for you." She was quiet a moment, eating. "I wish I could have seen you guys Impress. I hated that we were split up. Half the fun of a Hatching is watching all the matches."

Lorithi held out her hand for the papers and was reading them as they walked to the exam room, “Ok, so looks like your entire right side? Let’s take a look, please. You have cream to keep the scarring pliable?” She wasn’t trying to be cold about the history that was written there, but right now she was in healer mode which was kind, but methodical.

She led the way towards an exam room.

Hathayn gave the healer a slight nod and moved his left hand, taking some papers that were tucked under that arm out.  "I have them."  He said while he walked after her.

"But, all of this, it really depends on just how much you really want
to stay in the Weyr.  There have been plenty of candidates who became
candidates simply because they wanted out of whatever future their
parents had set out for them, or they were looking for adventure, or
perhaps were even pressed into it by parents because their families
considered it a high honor, without really understanding what they
were signing up for.  May I ask, Sehrael, what it was that made you
choose to become a candidate?"

Sehrael still had no plans to stay just yet, and for this reason, she supposed it could not hurt anything for her to tell the truth. After all, what could Andronda do? Send her home?

"After the attack – the first attack, the guards here got a lot stricter about who they let in," she explained. "My father thought it would be a great opportunity for us if we had a contact here, someone who belonged here, who could invite them in. When I got Searched, he said why not me? So I came. I figured I haven't got that many Turns left before I wouldn't be allowed any more, so I'd come, make some friends, maybe find a place in the lower caverns..."

"But then Kassia gave us the class on golds, I thought, that sounded a lot like what I did for the caravan. Next level kind of stuff, sure, but. It sounded like something I could do, something I would actually enjoy, you know? Contribute to society and all that. I didn't think I would Impress, but I thought, hey, if I do, that's OK. I could be good at it."

She shrugged.

"But then there was that crazy girl. The explosion. The bloody Sands. Nobody ever tried to stab my dad. Nobody ever blew up our wagons. And no cask of whiskey ever tried to rip my guts out. It's just a lot, and I... I don't know if I'm cut out to get my guts ripped out, you know?"

Re: #greenflight Unexpected Morning (atten: any) #greenflight

Sigyth hissed, her already displeased mood from being awake nearly the whole night for the Hatching only mildly soothed by watching the clearly strong little ones Impress. ((You need to be with me.))

"Sig, I'm starving, I need to eat."

((No, I need you now!))

The sun peeked over the horizon, and Sigyth screamed, and rose with it.
Well, that had certainly been a thing, E'thari thought. He'd stood
for a number of Hatchings, sure, but nothing quite like this! He
couldn't remember a hatching where a candidate had been mauled to
death, before, and it was definitely something that was going to haunt
his dreams for a long time to come. Rather than go down to the
breakfast feast, though, E'thari had gone back to his weyr instead.
He had some fruit in there for snacking on, and at the moment, he'd
rather have that and quiet than try to endure being around the rest of
the Weyr for a feast.

He was distracted from his mood when he heard a dragon scream - a
green rising? Now?

((Its Sigyth!)) Runaath exclaimed. ((I'm chasing!))

Of course he was. Not that E'thari minded in the least.

Re: Have I Made a Mistake? (attn: Andronda, Sehrael)

Jerzy Tobin

"You would?" Sehrael quirked an eyebrow at Andronda. Of course, it was we and not I, and so this was likely to be some line they gave to any Candidate who was reconsidering rather than a specific desire for her to stay, in particular.

"What do I say to a mind healer?" she wondered, though her tone suggested she it was more a personal consideration than an actual question for Andronda.

"It'll be awhile before another one goes up, won't it? Yours, maybe? Wasn't the last one Razelth's?" Perhaps if word of what was happening was getting around, fewer potential Candidates would be accepting Search. They would need the ones they had to stay.
Andronda herself hadn't really ever spoken much with the mind healers.
While she'd struggled with her gold at the first, most of her help had
come from the Weyrlingmaster and Telgar, and the Weyrwoman in turn.
She'd not suffered from Impression Anxiety, or witnessing serious
accidents at Hatchings. She saw horrifying things in Fall, sure, but
that was something all riders learned to deal with.

"What you say would be entirely up to you. At the very least, you'd
probably talk about what you saw, how you felt, how you're feeling
now...and who knows what else. I'm not a mind healer, so I couldn't
really say what they'd ask, or talk to you about. I just know that
they are very helpful when it comes to sorting out one's actual
feelings on something, or at least, helping that person figure things
out for themselves."

"It's likely to be a while, yes," Andronda admitted. "And probably it
will be Nykantiath, but she's shown no signs of wanting to rise any
time soon. There's likely to be a lull in activity for a bit, I
think."

She couldn't say for sure, because nothing was certain, but Nykantiath
wasn't displaying any sort of sign of being proddy, so it was probably
true. Andronda was glad for that; she didn't want her gold riding
until they found out just what had happened with the Hatching Caverns,
and who was behind the attacks. When Nykantiath had her first clutch,
she wanted it to be as safe as could be. She didn't want any
disasters.

Gayatri had missed part of the Hatching, arriving late because Edyth and Ardon had been in a tiff over...something, she wasn't sure just what. After calming them down, and yawning herself awake, she'd managed to find a seat in the stands.

It had been an extremely odd, and somewhat horrific Hatching. Gayatri had missed the part where one hatchling had eviscerated a boy who got in it's way. But she'd seen the aftermath.

Now, though, she wanted to eat, and to congratulate her best friend, who she knew had Impressed. So with a smile on her face, Gayatri went in search of Rennitz. And found her talking to Yiyu. She gave both the other girls a big smile. "Hey Renn. Congratulations!  How does it feel? Hi Yiyu."

Kashara flushed. How was Calyse going to feel when she found out that she helped A'shran on the Sands. She hated the thought that she'd lose a friend, but she wouldn't take back what she'd done. Maybe Calyse would be reasonable.

((I hope you would not let me starve,)) Rusalth said, not exactly a 'yes'. She nuzzled the young gold. ((You wouldn't let me starve, would you?))

Re: The Nightmare is Over, Right? Att: Isirdux/Lan

The tattered, bloody front on one boy's robes drew his attention as he approached. "Name?" Lan called out directly, cutting straight to the point. "And age? Seem to have caught some claws. We'll need to clean those and get them bandaged. And perhaps something for the pain, too, hmm?" He moved forward to meet the boy halfway, guiding him to the area marked off for examinations.

"Go ahead and pull that off," he indicated the torn robe.
"I-Isirdux, Sir," the boy managed to stammer out, still trying to
process everything that had happened. "And I'm 15."

He followed the healer to the area marked off for examinations, more
than eager to get the torn and bloody robe off, and get something for
the pain. The scratches on chest and thigh hurt a lot, but once the
panic of almost being mauled began to drain from him, he noted that
they weren't as deep as he'd initially imagined. Oh, they'd leave
scars, sure, but nothing huge or horrific. He'd been very lucky, it
seemed.

Hatching Feast:Accolades and Acclimations (Attn: Mendl-Koshara, Shalia, Calyse, Any)

It had only been a short nap, maybe thirty minutes or so, when Mendl awoke again. Nimoth was still sleeping. Mendl tested their bond, and got the impression Nimoth would stay asleep. She hoped she was right.

OK. She looked around the wallow and saw a couple of dresses hanging up on the side. Ambrelli had been good to her word, though Mendl hoped she wasn't overdressed when she got out amongst the Weyr. She knew all eyes would be on her, and she wasn't used to that.

A quick bath later she was ready to meet the world as Goldrider Mendl. The barracks wasn't empty--there were a few other Weyrlings snoozing with their dragons.

Considering that no one had been invited to this Hatching Feast, it was still crowded just from the Weyr inhabitants. She'd never thought about it before, but Riders ate in many different shifts. Seeing almost the whole Weyr out and about at once was impressive.

The smell of breakfast had her stomach rumbling loudly, and she made a beeline to the food. Plate heaped with eggs and bacon and a few pastries, she saw familiar faces seated together. It was funny, she could tell who had Impressed by the shock and awe in their eyes. She sat in an empty spot.

"Congratulations," she said to everyone. "Who did you Impress?"

(( There! There you are! My Trifali, you shall share this with me! Share the delight of what I have done, feel the energy that surges within me! Yes, we shall hunt together and it will be WONDROUS! ))

The words came into her mind, her body moving without thought. She left the two golden eggs and their hopefuls behind, descending to find the voice that called her. Her heart beat hard and fast, a tinge of sadness overwhelmed with joy until-

She stood transfixed by the sight on the sands, by the sight of the green. She couldn't go forward, but she couldn't go back. She blinked, hoping the sight would resolving itself into something else. While the green was beautiful, her mind voice the swweetest thing Trifali had ever heard. But over all that beauty, that sweetness, came the awareness that this newly born dragon had killed and mamed. And she'd enjoyed it.

Caught like a dragonfly in amber, Trifali stood and gazed at *her* green, one hand held out, but the rest of her body held stiff as confusion warred with love. She sent the quietest mind thought she could manage.

** Oh, my sweet green, what have you done? **

Night of changes. Alyx SA

Alyx

The hatching, horrid and wonderful. Tonight had been about lives changed, lives saved, and lives lost. All things that a healer was supposed to be able to handle. But tonight had been more than Alyx had been ready to face. Watching that poor boy, mauled and then forgotten. Bleeding into the sands, staining them crimson in a way she wondered if it would ever truly clean out. She was used to a certain amount carnage around draconics, but...

She took another hasty sip of the wine situated by her elbow. She didn't drink over much. The few times when she had, well she tried not to think about those things. None of them would be happening tonight. She sat in her room, the glow barely open, as was fairly normal now. Cremmie sat beside her, head laying in her lap. Between drinks her fingers lightly traced the ridges of his head. He wasn't quite sure what was so upsetting about meat, other than it had been a two leg. But his 'Lyx was upset and needed him.

And then...seeing the impressions, usually her favorite part, while she was glad for those that had. She was shocked to have seen Asheran on the sands. He hadn't been standing, or so she thought. But his bronze had gone right to him. She'd always known that he's impress well. Had believed it. Now it was true. She didn't know what that would mean for them either. More importantly what Did she want out of that relationship? She had her own career, she had Cremmie to think about too. What was right? What if he fell for another rider? Wasn't that just right? Maybe they could be friends..maybe together with freedom for flights? She wasn't sure what she wanted to do. She'd never truly been with anyone. Sure she'd spent flights with people here and there.  But never stuck with someone. How would he be after the Impression? Dragons changed people. Everyone knew that, usually for the better. Would they still like each other? Well only time would tell.

She'd always hope to be one of those lucky ones, leading their partner off the sands. Cremmie picked up on the image and the sadness it created. He wasn't jealous, or upset. He sent back to her an image of herself, as He saw her. The first image he'd ever had of her. It was dark, fuzzy, dust, then there was warmth. A voice, a voice that promised affection. A feeling, a smell of food. Then there was more she moved. A bit of food landed in front of him. He didn't know what it was, but ate it gratefully. The tug of affection got stronger, and he started to inch closer, wary, yet hungry. There was fear, on both sides, another bite, another step. Bit by bit the bonds of love were formed between wher and woman. By the end he was standing right at her knee. Looking up green eyes met whirling blue and green. There was no question, no hesitation. This was the one he would love and protect over all others. This woman, this Alyx was smart, and clever and kind. She did more than she had to for others. Her work ethic was strong, she loved deeply, though it didn't always show. In her mind the two flits welcomed Cremmie with open claws. He showed her his love, the way her hair always fell down for her to brush away, the deep color of her eyes early in the morning as she went to sleep. The way her hands found all the perfect spots when she was scratching. Her loving care as he grew. The love she felt for A'shran, her bronze, and now he was a bronze in truth. Then because he was linked into her mind deeply, he let her feel, everything he felt. It was rough and raw, chaotic and strong. The devotion so strong that she knew he'd do anything, anything she ever asked of him. After that Cremmie withdrew quietly and again was simply with her, laying his head in her lap.

Alyx tried, but she couldn't hold back the tears. She knew Cremmie had impressed on her. She always knew what she'd felt, but seeing the whole thing through his eyes. It was a little overwhelming, especially half a bottle in. Her defenses against the night came down in a torrent of tears, Cremmie didn't mind at all as they sprinkled down on his head he crooned to her low in his throat, her two flits picked up the note and harmonized, sitting on her bed. As the emotional overload worked it's way through, and finally began to fade, she came back to herself. To her true self in a way she hadn't for a while. No matter what happened in the future, with her, with A'shran, with anyone else. She was loved, an indisputable fact. She wasn't alone, she never would be.

With a lightened heart, Alyx blew her nose, and wiped off her face. Her voice was a bit hoarse as she looked at her trouble making trio. "Let's go to bed guys." And they did, and Cremmie, just this once, and possibly for the last time, crawled into the bed with her, laying his head on her hip. {Love 'Lyx. Night, sleep.} And so they did.
