"O...okay," Kassia said. She wanted to shut her eyes again, but Foreth had finally stopped being panic. She didn't want to throw that in again on top of the keening. "I...I need to see Foreth before you can take me to the Infirmary."

((Love, I'm with you,)) she told her lifemate. ((You did everything you could. This is not your fault. This is the fault of whoever did it."

Vayky had several bottles of numbweed in her bag, she handed one to K'ren and used the other herself, carefully slathering it over her arm, taking extra care on the area that was broken.

"You poor dears. There we are, here, I've got an eye rinse so you can see better."

Seeing that the weyrwoman trusted K'ren a lot more than herself, she quietly handed it over to him. Then lightly ran her fingers over the weyrwoman's skull, checking for any obvious breaks and hoping not to find any.

She shook her head and immediately regretted it with the headache developing. "Please...make sure the baby...is okay." In the background Foreth had switched to keening which was no less ear piercing, but at least she wasn't panicking any more.

K'ren was there. K'ren would save the day. For him she tried hard to keep her eyes open. She coughed even as she squeezed his hand and then cried out as her arm was jostled. She coughed again, some light smoke and dust inhalation from the attack creeping up.

"K'...K'ren..."

There was nothing that could be said at the moment to console the hurting Queen. Her lifemate was in a bad situation and some of her eggs were crushed, at least some of them by herself. She leaned into the mental voices of the sires and Nykantiath, taking rare comfort.

It had taken Kaji a bit longer to get there then he had liked, but
sadly Chateauperth was limited on his flight abilities due to his
injuries so the blue had been able to glide them part of the way over
but then they had had to walk. Still he was here now and he was going
to do all he could help. After spotting the gathering crowd though he
made should Chateauperth stayed a bit back reassuring the blue he
would call him if he needed him. "I'm a Dragonhealer!" he called out
as soon as he spotted the guards working on keeping people away to
hopefully prevent any delays "Where can I help!" he added his bag of
supplies on his shoulder even as he kept running.

The words just made her start keening hard.

((There's...there's nothing to be done.))

((Talith, where is Yours? Mine needs to talk to him,)) Kasheth called for T’rif. The ACM had just been sent by Nayari to figure out what to do with the Candidates.

For a few minutes dead silence, as though he hadn’t been heard in the clamour of draconic voices. Then a slightly rushed ((Here. Why?)) It wasn’t the best time to ask Talith anything. The brown sounded distracted to the point of panic. 

((Mine needs to talk to him,)) Kasheth said. ((Thanks.))

As he went silent T’rif was already sprinting toward the Hatching Caverns. If he hadn’t had his duties, he would have already been on the way there anyway. He needed to know how Kassia was doing. Not so well if Foreth was screaming her head off.

In record time he reached the Caverns. Huffing and puffing, he looked for the Weyrleader.

There was a crowd around R’tal. The Weyrleader was looking grim as he talked, directed and shifted from one to the next, back against Talith as he did so, never moving more than a step away from his dragon. Some part of his mind was screaming to send them all away already, let them decide for themselves if they wanted this or that, focus on Talith and Talith alone. But Kassia was injured, and N’shen was similarly occupied and panic right now was not allowed. 

T’rif hurried up to him. “I’m here to ask about the Candidates and what you want to do with them,” he said. “But I need to know...do you know how Kassia is doing?”

“The Candidates?” R’tal looked at him, clearly thrown by the question. “...Are they hurt?” Right now the memory of the trip was far from his mind. 

“We need to figure out what to do with them,” T’rif clarified. He realized that he wasn’t going to get the answers from the man he wanted, so he stuck to the one he absolutely needed answered. “Do you want them called back to the Weyr?”

“Oh, Faranth, they’re away, aren’t they? It should really be Ka-- never mind.” He caught that answer as it was coming out of his mouth and glanced back towards the Eggs. “They don’t look like a Hatch is imminent, do they?”

“No, I think Kassia was thinking another sevenday last I talked to her.” Don’t think about her. Don’t think about what it’d be like if she...No. Focus on the Candidates. “It might be easier to leave them there. They won’t appreciate being kept in the dark later, I’m sure, but right now I’m afraid they might just get in the way. Or recall them but keep them in the Barracks.”

“Shells, they’ll have riders with them though, won’t they? The riders will know. Did Sh’ain go? Feck, poor Sh’ain.” R’tal tried to pull his head together enough to focus. “OK, leave them,” he said after a second. “Get the riders together -- the adults, I guess -- and tell them what’s going on. The kids can stay -- shells though, if any of Kass’s brood are there should you pull them to one side? I don’t know.”

That was about the time that the keening went up

T’rif’s head snapped around. “Feck, if there are any dragons with the Candidates, they'll know something is up. I can check, but chances are the feline is out of the bag here. I was hoping to let people know before the news might get out there.”

“Go!” R’tal waved him away at that hastily. “The quicker the better. Tell the kids -- tell them a couple of eggs are broken. Tell the adults the full story. Might be that they’re too far to pick up the keening -- hurry!

“Going, sir,” T’rif said, already bolting toward Kasheth.

"Broken arm for sure, I think she might have a concussion, belly movement seems to be on par with this stage of pregnancy, so I think we're lucky there. She's having some trouble staying awake, and her head hurts. Trying to clean away some of the dust and all to check for contusions."

All this said while still gently wiping away the worst of the grime.

Having followed his rider to the caverns, but remind at a distance due
to the crowds Chateauperth joined in the voices morning the lost
hatchlings-to-be. It was not supposed to happen how could it be this
way? Even as he keened though he reached out to Foreth {{Foreth my
Kaji is a Healer of Dragons. Can he do anything to help the little?}}
The blue had to try, he had to offer the sun queen...
