But It Could All Go Wrong JP Kassia/M'gal

sailyn2

Kassia was pacing again. The herbs that Mariska was giving from K’ren were working, but not entirely. As the Hatching came closer and closer she wouldn’t be able to be given enough to stave off her anxiety without putting her to sleep and Kassia refused to take anything that would keep her asleep during the day.

So instead she paced. And waited for her mates to show up when they had time. She could have demanded that they stay by her side, but they had things to do and Foreth wouldn’t allow it. Now she was waiting for M’gal to show.

When Ozayith told M’gal that Kassia wanted to see him, he sounded odd, so M’gal hurried over to the temporary weyr. He barely gave the guards time to see who it was before rushing in to see her, and was out of breath by the time he burst into the living quarters.

“Oz...said...you...needed to…” He put his hands on his thighs and hung his head, taking great gulps of air, “...see me?”

Kassia’s eyes widened and she paused pacing. “I...wasn’t looking for that fast of a turn up,” she said. For once. “I just...need to talk...about things. Not about you. We’re fine.” She knew how those words could be taken.

M’gal took one last breath and laughed. “Trust Oz to get it jumbled,” he said good naturedly.

{{Face it, you didn’t want to talk to those guys anyway,}} Ozayith said.

“Though it did get me out of having to chat with some of the Wingleaders. There are a few who I’d rather not deal with.”

He watched Kassia pace for a bit, and started pacing with her. “So, what’s up? Babies are well? Foreth is well? You’re doing fine?” The Hatching Sands were still intact, so Foreth was probably fine. It really was Kassia he was worried about.

“Feel free to use me to get out of a useless meeting at any time,” Kass said, teasing a little even as she paced.

Having M’gal pace with her made her lips twitch up a little. She reached for his hand. “I’ve been better.” She shrugged. “To tell the truth...I’m nervous. Very nervous. So many bad things have happened. I feel like there’s more. There’s always more. This is Arolos.”

He clasped her hand as they walked. Paced. “I’d like to tell you not to worry, but I can’t. Because, yes. You’re right. This is Arolos, bad things happen, and there’s always a bad thing around the corner.” He smiled at her.

“But we always get through it. Every time. So, rather than worry, we need to look forward to the good things that will be happening. Right?”

“I guess.” She didn’t sound too certain. “It’s just...so many Hatchings have problems. And there are the two golds. What’s going to happen with them? This could all go so badly wrong.” She stopped pacing and turned to look at him. “Tell me it’ll be all right. Tell me that this Hatching is going to go perfectly.”

“This Hatching will go perfectly,” he said, turning and holding her hands in his. “Everything will be all right.” He grinned cheekily at her. “Now, tell me, am I believable?”

She offered him a weak smile. “I wish. I wish I could believe. I’m sleeping now but I keep having nightmares. All the eggs open up and they’re like Ilexeth. Or worse. Just heads and they’re screaming as they die. Or something crashes into the Caverns and they all get smashed. Or they all turn into gold eggs and the hatchlings kill each other.”

Hmm. Now, if she and Foreth had gone back in time for some reason or other, maybe that’s where her nightmares were coming from. But…

“What’s Foreth say? Has she been having any thoughts, dreams, feelings?”

“She’s nervous, but more about someone bursting in and destroying all her eggs.” Kassia turned to look at the Queen who was laying protectively over her Clutch and on alert. “I have a feeling it’ll be at least another couple of Hatchings before she allows anyone to see the Clutch that doesn’t need to see it. That really scared her. Anything that threatens her eggs is terrifying.”

“Well, I can’t blame her,” M’gal said seriously. “Ozayith was pretty freaked out over our two Clutches, and there weren’t even any gold eggs. So, yeah, I’m with Foreth on this one.

“And, while she’s worried, you’ll be worried too. You’re both feeding worry off of each other. You two are close--closer than you realize. Closer than you think. And you’re feeding into each others’ fears.” He wasn’t going to say paranoia, but that’s what it was starting to sound like.

Kassia squeezed his hands hard and looked around. “I just...I have this really bad feeling. What about our baby? Something could happen there, too. It’s happened before. Lots of bad things.”

And she was older now. “I think you’re going to have this bad feeling until after the eggs Hatch. Then, after the baby’s born. But your worrying isn’t good--for you or for the baby. Oh, Kass,” he turned around and put his forehead against hers. “I want to say without a shadow of a doubt that everything will be fine. But I can’t. No one can. Even if I were to Time it forward, I don’t think that would work either.

“But I would feel better if Foreth would allow Sh’ain and I to spend the nights here with you. We could rotate. Shards, I’d even be okay with having B’lin share in the rotation.” He wouldn’t, but for her he’d do it.

Kassia pulled back enough to nod and then pressed against him, pressing her face against his neck and talking against his skin. “I’ll talk to her. Maybe it’d make my nightmares go away.” Or at least she’d have someone there if she had any. “I need you near me.”

It would be better. He knew it, Sh’ain knew it, Kass knew it. If only Foreth would know it.

{{She does. But Kassia’s Hers. It may be jealousy.}}

“Tell Foreth that none of us could ever come between the two of you, no matter how much time we spend together. Just as you can’t come between me and Oz, or Sh’ain and Rhyth.”

Foreth lifted her head and rumbled, her eyes whirling with suspicion. Kassia could feel the ball of worry that had her lifemate clinging so hard to her and making her crazy in turn. She could feel her chest hurt like something wanted to burst out. Kass knew that K’ren would be telling her to calm down for the baby, but it was so hard with the worry of two where even one was overwhelming.

“Please, love,” she said softly. It wasn’t often that she all but begged her lifemate. She had to be so strong for the Queen, but even she had a limit and she was circling it.

Foreth was quiet for a long moment. Then she said, ((Fine,)) with a grunt. It was as good as Kassia was going to get.

From the look on her face, M’gal figured she had received at least begrudging permission. He kissed her on the temple. “Good. I think it’ll be better for you if someone were here anyway,” he said. Something she could cling to.

“You may not get much sleep,” she warned. “I keep waking up screaming.” She squeezed his hand again and pulled him. “Sit in the Stands with me. She’ll be happier about your being here if  I’m not hiding in the temporary weyr.” And who could blame the nervous mother wanting company?

“Of course,” he said. He and Foreth may not be bosom buddies, but he knew who ran the weyr. “We can even get a book out and I’ll read to the two of you.”

“That sounds nice.” Distraction was a good thing. For both of them. And Foreth would never admit it, but she did like stories. She probably would have had some of the girls tell her stories if things had gone a different way.

Kass walked with him out to the Stands. “Lunch will come soon. I can have them bring some books on the way in.” They were still monitoring to make sure she was eating.

“Good. I wish I knew an instrument, but I’m not musically inclined. So you’ll both need to wait.”  He smiled at Kass, and even waved at Foreth.

The Hatching was only a couple weeks away. Maybe once all the dragons hatched healthy, things would go back to their normally chaotic status quo.

"It's going pretty well actually. Cremmie is smart, and wants to please so most things have been pretty easy. I've also gone back to work part time. Now that he will stay in my room without eating furniture." She couldn't help a chuckle at that. That had to date been his worst habit to break. Not eating, or crushing her bed.

Re: Isn't Arolos meant to mean surprise? {Jaseto, T'rif, any}

Kouga

"We're lucky and unlucky enough to have unusual things happen," T'rif agreed. "But still, two gold eggs is extremely unusual. Gold dragons are not usual dragons. A Weyr is likely to have at most five golds and those may or not all be golds of laying age. So we're looking at likely something like 40 gold dragons of laying age. Those dragons are responsible for all the dragons on Pern. The same dragons that save your life every time there's Thread. Without them, there are no dragons. As harsh as it is to say, any other dragon could die and there's not much of a difference in a grand scheme. A gold dies and so does the person meant to lead the Weyr and also all the eggs she would otherwise have laid. Foreth alone has laid somewhere between 150 and 200 eggs in her lifetime." <<
Jaseto frowned at that, well she understood the golds had the eggs,
but it seemed as if there had been something important about there
being two in training at once which had actually been her question.
"But what is so different about having two instead of just one now and
one later? What difference does it make to have two gold weyrlings?
Don't they get training just like the others? I know I've heard
something about them and firestone I think so they use the
flamethrowers like the ground crews don't they? But wouldn't they
train just like all the others except that?" though even as she asked
she was intrigued by the numbers. She couldn't remember the first time
she head he name Foreth, though it had been a bit, but if this clutch
was normal and had less than 30 eggs that was a lot of clutches. How
often did gold dragons have eggs? Hmm she may have to try and look
into it because this really would be interesting to know. Would it be
worth trying to get Tesser back this way every time there was a
clutch? She had heard the hatchings were made into big things...

For now she supposed since she had an excuse she would just have to
wait around for this hatching and find out what all did happen.

A Mission for Justice: Final Target- ACM 'Monster' M'ayen (Part 5) ((JP: Yalyra & Orsa))

Rosiegirl

Execution: Final Target- 'Monster' M'ayen

Arriving back at the laundry room with D'xon's and the riders dirty laundry that Orsa had delivered to, they again handed these baskets over to be cleaned before heading over to the baskets of laundry that needed to be delivered. It wasn't hard to spot the basket that needed to go to M'ayen's, it was a bit out of the way and the other candidates in the chore group were avoiding even looking at it, as if just the *idea* of delivering the basket to 'Monster ACM's' weyr would put them at the mercy of him on his home territory.

So, waiting until everyone else was distracted or otherwise not looking to notice a tiny candidate girl, Yalyra smoothly and silently picked up M'ayen's basket *totally randomly* and headed out, with Orsa right behind her with her own basket, and the pair of girls headed off for their last 'justice delivery'.

A final detour to another rarely used room, Orsa guarding the door, Yalyra donning those gloves and wielding that spatula like a sword, and ACM M'ayen's clothing was so very carefully dosed with small dabs of oil.

This time, with the fact that she'd reserved the biggest of the 4 bottles for M'ayen, and the addition of nearly all of the bottle that would have gone to dosing items in T'ril's weyr, as he'd been home and she'd not been able to go into his weyr, Yalyra didn't just dose *some* of the items in this basket but took the extra time to dose *everything*.

~ All shirts had been dosed right at the seams at the underarms, and just at the back shoulder blades (so that if the shirt's collar was grabbed for the shirt to be donned that it wouldn't immediately be noticeable with itching on the hands).

~ All pairs of pants had been dosed at the seam of the inner thigh.

~ Each pair of socks had been dosed at the heel of the sock as well as the toe.

~ And lastly, all of the pairs of underthings had been dosed right at the crotch.

When the girls left the room, the basket of clothes was again carefully and pristinely folded and as they walked they checked over each other's uniform just to be sure that if M'ayen happened to be there that he could find nothing to give them detention for regarding the state of their uniforms or appearance. Again, Orsa delivered her basket first and posted herself to be Yalyra's lookout a bit outside M'ayen's weyr.

And although her stomach was twisted into knots at this final clothing delivery, Yalyra didn't hesitate to knock and announce the clothing delivery, letting out a sigh of relief when there was no answer. After giving Orsa a glance, Yalyra slipped inside and saw the weyr was indeed empty. Just like with Talena's clothing delivery, before she put away the freshly laundered clothing that she'd already dosed, Yalyra took the time to dose some other clothing once she'd pulled on her gloves again.

~She pulled some of the ACM's other clothing from the clothes-press (carefully noting the order) and dosed those articles in a similar manner as what she'd already done before carefully folding them back exactly how they had been. Only then did she add the 'fresh' laundry she'd dosed previously on top of the stacks of clothes in the close-press before shutting it, like was normal with a laundry delivery.

~Then Yalyra had found the ACM's boots and dosed several pairs in both the toe area and around the ankle.

~The rest of the oil in this bottle, as well as a bit of left over from the other bottles went onto the bedsheets, spread with the spatula in different spots all over the sheets and furs, and even a couple touches on the pillows.

~But, Yalyra did something for M'ayen that she'd *not* done for any of the other targets. She found his towels and dosed some of those for when he dried off after a bath. She spread some out on the floor where he would step out of the bath barefoot, and some where it looked like he tended to step out of the bed barefoot in the mornings (stone or carpet, it didn't matter to Yalyra). She also put some dabs of oil on his end table, his desk, his desk chair, on the couch, the klah-table, and the chairs by the couch, the table and chairs, even on the handles of the cups in his small kitchen and the handle of his klah pot, and literally *everywhere* else she could think of.

When she was finished, she was totally out of the oil and she didn't think there was a *single* surface in his weyr that hadn't been dosed with the oil that was, thankfully, not only odorless but also invisible. Well, aside from the area that led out to his dragon's wallow and ledge, as the ACM's dragon hadn't done anything except happen to choose as a lifemate a sadistic, bully of a man who seemed to get off on the pain and humiliation of those weaker than him.

All and all, things were done quickly, silently, and everything was *exactly* in the place it should be, as if nothing else had been done except a *normal* laundry delivery. On the way out of the weyr, just like the other deliveries, Yalyra left now the empty basket she'd carried in as the next 'dirty clothes' basket to be collected and grabbed the current basket of dirty clothing to be laundered, like should be done at each delivery.

ACM M'ayen's clothing was delivered, and the plan for him was set in motion...

The girls, each carrying the 'dirty clothing' basket from the weyr they'd just delivered clothing to, hurried back to the laundry and delivered their baskets to be cleaned before rushing off to their next lesson. Instead of heading directly back to the barracks though, Yalyra hurried off to hide the materials they'd used for the mission (the gloves, spatula, and bottles) where the mortar and pestle and tea strainer was, so that they could all be thoroughly cleaned at a later date and returned to where they belonged without a clue to what they'd been used for.

A Mission for Justice: Target- ACM D'xon (Part 4) ((JP: Yalyra & Orsa))

Rosiegirl

Execution: Target- D'xon

The third time entering the laundry room was much like the first 2. The girls dropped off the dirty clothes baskets they'd collected to the clothes washers, then Orsa moved to pick up a basket that needed to be delivered to a weyr near ACM D'xon. Again, small little Yalyra was able to wait until no one was noticing her and pick up D'xon's basket, and then the pair of young girls were off again.

Another detour to another rarely used room, Orsa guarding the door, gloves being donned and spatula wielded, and another ACM's clothing was so very carefully dosed with small dabs of oil.

~ 4 shirts had been dosed right at the seams at the underarms, and just at the back shoulder blades (so that if the shirt's collar was grabbed for the shirt to be donned that it wouldn't immediately be noticeable with itching on the hands).

~ 3 pairs of pants had been dosed at the seam of the inner thigh.

~ 4 pairs of socks had been dosed at the heel of the sock as well as the toe.

~ And lastly, several pairs of underthings had been dosed right at the crotch.

Just like before, Yalyra made sure to fold everything exactly how it had been, leaving most of the clothing right on top but again putting a set of dosed clothing (shirt, pants, and underthings) at the bottom of the stack just in case, so that these items would hopefully be chosen when the ACM got dressed in the morning. With that done, the girls swiftly exited the room with their baskets and, once Orsa delivered her basket, approached ACM D'xon's weyr. Just like the other two deliveries, Orsa waited just down the hallway, ready to loudly ask the ACM something totally random if D'xon happened to arrive home so that Yalyra would be warned.

Yalyra, of course, knocked and announced that she was delivering the ACM's laundry as was expected, and smiled when, like Talena's weyr, there was no answer from inside. And her smile grew wider when she entered the weyr and saw that it was indeed empty. Before she put away the freshly laundered clothing that she'd already dosed, Yalyra took the time to dose some other clothing once she'd pulled on her gloves again.

~ She pulled some of the ACM's other clothing from the clothes-press (carefully noting the order) and dosed those articles in a similar manner as what she'd already done before carefully folding them back exactly how they had been. ~ Then Yalyra had found the ACM's shoes and dosed several pairs in both the toe area and around the ankle.

~ Lastly, the rest of the oil in this bottle went onto the bedsheets, spread with the spatula in different spots all over the sheets and furs, and even a couple touches on the pillows.

All and all, just like with Talena's weyr, things were done quickly, silently, and everything was *exactly* in the place it should be, as if nothing else had been done except a *normal* laundry delivery. A Mission for Justice: Target- ACM T'ril (Part 3) ((JP: Yalyra & Orsa))

Rosiegirl

Execution: Target- T'ril

After they entered the laundry room and passed their dirty clothes baskets to the clothes washers, Orsa this time grabbed a basket for a weyr near T'ril, and Yalyra was able to just pick up T'ril's basket while people were not looking (as it was still sitting there and hadn't gotten picked up by anyone else yet). They headed out, made another small detour to another (different) rarely used room and followed the same procedure as with Talena's clothing. While Orsa stood by the door, Yalyra was once again gloved and wielding her spatula as she dosed several articles of clothing from the basket with small dabs of oil that would go unnoticed until it was worn and the itching began.

Orsa waited just down the hallway, ready to loudly ask the ACM something totally random if T'ril happened to arrive home so that Yalyra would be warned.

This time when Yalyra knocked and announced that she was delivering the ACM's laundry, she heard a male voice call out from inside that he'd be there in a moment. Hearing that voice and realizing she'd *only* be able to dose this ACM's delivered clothing and nothing inside his weyr, Yalyra felt disappointed but made sure it didn't show on her face. She waited with head respectfully bowed (hair sliding forward and hiding her face just a little bit) for the ACM to come to his door and when she did Yalyra dipped her head respectfully (stomach turning at having to be respectful to this bully!) and passed him his clothes basket before taking the dirty clothes basket he handed her.

ACM T'ril's clothing was delivered, and the plan for him was set in motion...

And with that, the pair of girls were off heading back toward the laundry room to pick up the clothing to deliver for their third ACM target: D'xon.

A Mission for Justice: Target- ACM Talena (Part 2) ((JP: Yalyra & Orsa))

Rosiegirl

Execution: Target- Talena

And then finally it was the day, the day before the camping trip actually! Not only was everything prepared, but Yalyra and Orsa's chores matched to have them working the laundry room at the same time. In the laundry room, the first of their targets was not actually M'ayen...Yalyra wanted him to be last so that if she had any oil left over she could use *all* the rest on him. The first was ACM Talena...ladies first after all.

It wasn't hard to have Orsa grab a basket of clothing that needed delivering to a nearby weyr and then for Yalyra wait for a moment when no one was looking and pick up Talena's basket to deliver.

On the way to Talena's weyr, Orsa and Yalyra had taken a small enough detour to duck into a room they'd already scoped out (surprising really, the amount of rarely used 'rooms' there were in the Weyr). Once inside, Orsa had stood by the door while Yalyra had slipped on one of the gloves she'd had belted close to her skin under her shirt and uncorked the first small bottle of oil. Using the small spatula, Yalyra had begun to dose several articles of clothing from the basket with small dabs of oil.

(You couldn't be squeamish after all, when performing missions for justice against horrible bullies...)

Yalyra made sure to fold everything so very carefully, leaving most of the clothing right on top but putting a set of dosed clothing (shirt, pants, and underthings) at the bottom just in case, so that these items would hopefully be chosen when the ACM got dressed in the morning. A Mission for Justice: Planning (Part 1) ((JP: Yalyra, Orsa, & Yolin))

Rosiegirl

Planning:

(OOC: Did not archive dive for info on the 'itchy plant' just kinda based it off normal poison ivy for ease of plot purposes. Orsa is either posted by Kouga, or posed with permission from Kouga. The pranking laundry deliver occurs the day before the camping trip, so that that morning the targeted ACMs *should* be wearing some dosed clothing that will be causing some itchy rashes in quite a few places.)

Yalyra was *tired* of seeing people be bullied, and by people they were supposed to trust enough to teach them too! Shells, this place was worse than Ista somedays, but especially since things had gotten so very strict. She just *had* to do something, and finally she had an idea after several different ACMs had targeted poor Garatt for things as completely silly as just fidgeting. But, she had to talk to her little sister to see if there was something that could work for this. So, one day after dinner and after she'd already pulled her younger cousin aside to let Orsa know what she was thinking of doing, thinking she might need a lookout for this, Yalyra went to see her sister and they took a small walk toward the lake.

Once the three of them were out of earshot of anyone else, Yalyra nonchalantly asked her younger sister "So, have they told you about anything in your healer lessons that can cause a person to get a rash and itch like crazy?"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Orsa was careful to follow a bit behind her cousins, keeping a good eye on who was coming and going and making sure no one got too close or too suspicious of their little gathering. Though she did make sure she wasn't so far away to cause Yolin to get suspicious. She knew her younger cousin too well and knew what would happen if the newly apprenticed healer found out their plan too early.

It took Yolin several moments of thinking before she came up with it: a plant she thought it was they had said "I think I remember a plant." she offered frowning for a moment her brain going over all the information she had been leaning over the past couple of months "If you get it dried it causes some itches that washes off, but if you can find it fresh and just crush is up and get the oil on you it lingers and can cause both and spread a lot more too because oil is harder to get off." she offered out of habit trying to supply all the information she had learned as she would in class and without thinking before looking from her sister back to her cousin and then back to her sister "Why?"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Yalyra was glad that she knew Orsa was watching her back, making sure no one got too close. It felt good to have a partner she trusted to help with this mission.

While Yolin considered, Yalyra glanced over her shoulder at Orsa just to check on things before turning back to her sister to listen. Nodding as her sister mentioned a plant, and then provided more information about getting it dried vs fresh and that oil, Yalyra smiled down at her sister in thanks.

At the question, and in an attempt for her sister to not get in trouble by knowing what they were planning on doing, Yalyra answered smoothly with "Oh, it's just...something like that was mentioned briefly in class one day, as they were talking about the upcoming candidate camping trip, and I wrote down the warning in class. But somehow that hide got wet and smeared, so I couldn't remember *what* it was that they'd talked about. Thank you 'Lin." Yalyra finished with a smile and a hug for her little sister.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Yolin considered her sister for a moment, glancing back once more at her cousin, before nodding at the explanation. "You'll both be safe? I hate I can't go with you so bring me back something if you find anything fun?" she asked, deciding that while she wasn't sure if she believed her sister, not with the way it had taken a moment, and not with wet smeared hide as an excuse, but still she would let it sit. She hugged Yalyra back always glad for that "Promise you'll be careful?" she asked before releasing her sister and looking towards her cousin.

With the look Orsa knew better than to think her cousin was stupid, they both did, but as long as they kept the story all was well. "Thank you for helping to keep us safe Yolin." Orsa agreed, moving to hug Yolin once Yalyra released her, earning the same plea for her to be safe "It's a candidate trip we'll have loads of people keeping an eye on us. I think Papa said he had even volunteered him and C'dan to go." she offered with a grin as she made a small bit of space between them again so she could go back to keeping an eye out for people listening in.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

As Yolin looked between her and Orsa, Yalyra worried that her sister was going to question her story and although she hated fibbing to her sister like this she knew she only did this to better protect Yolin from punishment. When Yolin didn't pry at the explanation, and instead moved on to talking about the camping trip, Yalyra replied with "Yes, we'll be safe. Promise. And of course we'll bring you back something fun." She did, actually, feel bad about going on this trip with Orsa and leaving Yolin behind, but Yolin didn't want to be a candidate.

Yalyra caught the look from Orsa and realized that her cousin thought Yolin might not believe her excuse too, but was glad her cousin didn't say anything to contradict her excuse. At Orsa's words, Yalyra nodded saying "Exactly, there will be plenty of people there to watch over us. We'll be fine." As Orsa stepped back, Yalyra gave her worried sister another hug before turning the conversation by asking curiously "So, how's healer training going? You still enjoying it?"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Yolin considered for another short moment at the second hug, but let it go, it was just easier right now and she would just keep in mind to see about a 'cure' in case her sister and cousin got into something they shouldn't. "I've met Uncle V'jal and hardly trust him to watch /himself/. At least he found C'dan, /he/ seems like a smart man and I think he could at least be trusted to keep you /all/ out of trouble." she shook her head at the though of V'jal looking after anyone. It was probably good they were so raised when they met him or who knows how they would have turned out. Really, the greenrider was so... well, something that she didn't have a word for just off.

"Awe he's not that bad, Papa just likes to have fun." Orsa protested earning a blank look from Yolin which caused her to pout.

Sure her cousin didn't have anything /else/ to say on that she returned to her sister's questions. "It is going good. We aren't learning much yet, but it's only been a couple of months and it takes turns before you are really good. I just hope it goes by fast. I would like to be able to do more than just bring someone water if I am trying to help out extra time."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Yalyra couldn't help a grin at her sister's words about V'jal, which she managed to smother pretty quickly before Orsa hopefully saw. She'd noticed the same thing herself about the greenrider's...interesting personality but not wanting to say anything herself as despite that he was really nice to them. And after...so long with Dad just being...there but not really there after both Mamma and Auntie, it was nice to have someone so present in their lives again.

However, Orsa's comment and the look Yolin gave her with Orsa's pouting response was too much and she couldn't hold back an almost snort of laughter which she quickly covered with a hand. Her eyes still laughing, she quickly apologized saying "I'm sorry...so sorry. I couldn't help it, the look you're giving each other..."

Straightening up, smoothing a hand over her hair, Yalyra listened to her sister and nodded at her words. Smiling at Yolin, she said "I'm glad it's going so well for you. You'll learn quickly and be an amazing healer in no time. Things have gotten *so* strict in the Barracks, it's...pretty unbelievable actually. We hardly have *any* time out of the barracks after dinner any more."

Glancing up at the sky, loving being *outside* in the fresh air and dreading going back in and dealing with...those horrible ACMs being so strict for such silly things, Yalyra let out a small sigh as she said mournfully  "We'll have to go back soon, actually...So much papers and hidework we've been assigned, we could nearly fill the lake with it."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Time jump over the next few days… ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Over the past sevenday since her conversation with Yolin she'd 'forgotten' to put back a pair of firestone breaking gloves during that chore. Then while in the infirmary for those chores she'd sneakily 'borrowed' a small mortar and pestle as well as 4 small bottles that were easily corked and could be hidden in a pocket. Lastly a tea strainer and small 'spreading' spatula from the kitchen had been misplaced. Only then did she return one evening at the beginning of their now minimal free time hours and very carefully and with gloves 'harvest' into a cloth she wrapped around the plant multiple times (so as to be sure not to get any oil on her as she carried it back inside) a small amount of the itchy plant she'd previously spotted out of the way enough in the Weyrbowl to be missed by the grounds keeping crew. Taking her harvested bounty back into the weyr tunnels, she headed to the room Orsa was waiting for her in, an out of the way store room that was very clearly unused based on the amount of dust.

There, over the next few days and in small batches during their free hours, between them the two candidate girls had crushed, strained, and then bottled the 'oil' from these itchy plants into the 4 different small bottles (1 for each ACM target). Yalyra had even thought to test the oil on a piece of fabric, not to see if it was itchy (she did *not* want a itchy rash herself) but to make sure that the oil wouldn't be visible once it was applied and it was totally unnoticeable. The girls were both so careful during this preparation to not get any of the oil on their clothing or on their own skin, as that would have exposed their plan.

During the nearly a sevenday of preparation it had taken *every* ounce of self-control she had in her to not speak up in classes when she witnessed the bullying continue, having to tell herself that she had a plan and to best accomplish it she needed to go unnoticed by these bulling ACMs. She needed to not be considered a 'problem Candidate'...she needed to do things *smart*.

T'rif wasn't sure who wanted to talk to him. Some parent of a Candidate, probably. Either way, he wasn't chasing around for him.
Kasheth relayed for him. ((Mine is busy in his office, but he would be
glad to see Yours if Yours comes to his office.)) <<

{{Thank you M'gil will be there shortly and he is sorry if he is
interrupting yours.}} Tulioth replied to the bronze after passing on
the message to his rider who's thinks was there if a bit terse.

M'gil did make a point of making sure his uniform was straight, but
well it only did so much for well what ever he was experiencing. He
couldn't help pausing at the entrance to the candidate barracks to
look around, he hadn't ever been in the despite Tulioth, and found
them really not that interesting and not something he minded missing
not that he had seen them. After a long moment though he stopped one
of the passing girls and asked her which way to the man he was looking
for since well 'his office' didn't help much when you were new. He
couldn't help another pause at the door he was directed too as those
doubts crept in, but well he was here and he wanted to know. So with
that he lifted his hand knocking on the bronzerider's door leaving
himself to what would happen now.

Can I help you? I can bring you ... water? {Yolin, Namieh}

Kouga

Yolin really wasn't able to do anything on her own yet, she'd only
been here a couple of months still, but that was ok. At least she
could do simple things like get people water and make sure they didn't
need to see the older healers who could well actually do things. Oh
and she could talk to them! She was allowed to do that too!

That in mind the 'twelve' turn old was carefully poking her head into
the room of those who were awake to see if any of them needed just
that. Coming to the next room she was careful as previous to 'knock'
to see if the person was awake or not before going in. No need to wake
someone or bother someone who didn't want company after all.

Calyse looked at the man who had addressed her and the girl that followed in his wake like they weren't quite human, squinting and taking a step backward when first approached. The words reached her, though, and she realized having a sit did sound like a very good idea. She didn't protest being guided toward a chair, sinking into it heavily and panting like it had taken some effort.
"I'm.. I'm quite diz.. woo, very dizzy," she explained slowly,
frowning like the words felt funny in her mouth. "Is there water? I
feel.. tired." She was slightly cool to the touch, skin damp with
sweat and still clammy despite the temperature outside. The pale shade
of her skin had begun to turn a pink on her face and bared arms,
though whether from a fresh sunburn or the heat was hard to tell.
Presenting with signs of heat exposure, the probability was high. <<

W'son frowned over the words nodded as the girl spoke before turning
his attention to Yolin "Go find one of the water skins and a glass."
he instructed the girl sending her off quickly keeping his attention
on Calyse. "My name is W'son, can you tell me yours?" he questioned
deciding that letting her sit a couple of moments to see if that could
help her stabilize a bit before trying to get her into a proper room.

"Yes Ma'am I have been doing those on my days off or short days, but

he would grow alot and Pet wouldn't have a wher put down because /he/

what I am playing with.

Kasheth passed on the name and T'rif started. He hadn't heard that name since...well a very long time. Had yet another child come back into his life? Could it be true? There must be some fate working either for or against him with suddenly having so many children in his life when he'd had none.

He conferred with his lifemate and Kasheth sent back, ((Mine is busy in his office, but he would be glad to see Yours if Yours comes to his office.))

Re: Isn't Arolos meant to mean surprise? {Jaseto, T'rif, any}

Foreth alone has laid somewhere between 150 and 200 eggs in her lifetime."

"I just wasn't comfortable around the people I was to be guarding at Ista anymore. Didn't know which ones I trusted to not be...well...not be horrid people, or people enabling problems. Things like that." <<
"Because it is home? Because it is what you know as normal?" The
candidate offered still thinking of Fort and the guards that had to
have been there before things happened or that even were there now
when things were happening that they may or may not approve of. "How
do you know who you can trust or if they are horrid when it is all you
have known? Does it not just become 'normal' then?" Borriga questioned
because he knew sometimes that he did wonder if all the things that
happened with Arolos Weyr were as 'normal' as he thought they were.

"Don't yell at me, boy!" Kassia snapped. She shook her head. Her blood was boiling, but some small part of her told her to not be too harsh. He was helping. She didn't know if she believed him or not, but he hadn't touched the Sands where the other one hand. She released her hips and balled her fists. "Just...get out of my sight. I'll deal with you later."

Re: Good Luck Can Be Uncomfortable (Attn: Reirel/Tamalak)

Kouga

It had been three months since Tamalak's unexpected Impression to the tunnelwhere, Chato. The novelty for the other wherhandlers--both with and without whers--had worn off. Now he noticed that he was sometimes the recipient of dirty looks--usually when the others thought he wasn't looking.
This unfortunate circumstance had the detrimental side effect of
turning him anti-social in the whercraft. When he wasn't needed for
lessons or chores, he spent more and more time at the Weyr, where he
was viewed as more of an oddity than as an object of envy. So when he
saw someone heading towards him--Reirel, he thought--he put his head
down and veered away.

~Why we go dis way?~ Chato asked.

"I'm avoiding people."

~Why?~

"They're jealous of you. They want to be the ones who have you and
don't think I deserve you."

Chato sat. ~Dey can't have me. You all mine. Dey try, I bite.~ He
showed his sharp teeth.

"No, you can't bite them. Then we'll both be in trouble."

By now, the other person was close enough to hear, if he so wanted to.
Tamalak blushed, hoping he hadn't heard that last remark. Or any, for
that matter.<<

Reirel would admit that he hadn't been paying too much attention to
what he was doing or even where he was going, but with so many whers
around the sound of wher claws hadn't actually alerted him to
anything, no it was the voice. He blinked a couple of times looking up
and spotting the younger boy offered him a grin, he hadn't ever been
able to gold anything again Tamalak or the other boy for that matter
when they impressed their whers. Had he wished it had been him? Sure,
but he didn't hold it against them at all, not after Fort. Fort had
made it very hard for him to hold anything against anyone. After all
it was just that that had forced him into being a candidate when he
hadn't wanted to be one, but it had either been that or know his days
may be numbered one way or another.

"Hello Tamalak and Chato right?" he offered.

Re: Gather: Tailor Stall (Attn: Bronwynn, Z'rain)

Rosiegirl

Bronwynn noticed that he perked up at her words, and couldn't help but wonder if Z'rain had actually thought she'd be upset or judge him for being happy...even if the happiness was with more than one person. Yes, she'd been raised at Fort but she'd always struggled with how strict they'd been...beyond the fact that it felt like she'd been in danger every day once she'd grown up a bit to be exposed to that side of Fort's atmosphere. So she was ecstatic that he was so happy where he was, regardless of how many people he was with.

Being an amazing multitasker, as she led Z'rain over to the racks of men's clothes she had and began looking through the hangers she was able to pull a few tunics to show him while at the same time listening to him talking, glancing back and forth from him to the clothing rack during the conversation.

Bronwynn smiled as she noticed him blush when he began talking about 'B'nault' the former miner from High Reaches, and reminded herself to either offer him a shirt made from her 'lighter fabric' for B'nault or see if maybe he'd be interested in visiting to get measured and properly fit, so that he could maybe stay a bit cooler in Igen.

Then there was 'J'ril' a former runner from Benden, who's also with B'nault. And finally Gabril from Keroon, a master beastcrafter too! Bronwynn couldn't help but look a bit impressed as Z'rain mentioned that, and blushed a bit at his last comment even as she laughed with him and replied with "Oh really? Now I simply *must* meet them all!"

As she pulled another shirt off the rack, so that she was holding 6 choices, Bronwynn asked "So, 2 riders and a master beastcrafter hmm? Sounds like a full weyr, at the very least. And you mentioned there is family as well, for them? What colors do B'nault and J'ril ride? You mentioned B'nault and J'ril are together, but then talked about Gabril separately. Is he not with the riders? And...how does he feel about the whole arrangement? I mean, I'm assuming it works because you're happy, I was just curious...and you can tell me to butt out and stop asking questions if you need to. I won't be offended."

Heading over to one of her 'changing areas' that she'd set up, Bronwynn held out to Z'rain the shirts she'd picked, all in that nice, lighter, breathable fabric that didn't *look* light and breathable, being a bit deceptive in their looks. With a smile and a wave toward the privacy curtain she offered "Go ahead and try them on. Let me know what you think and which you like more, or even if none of those options work for you."

I just hope I can finally hear about them while we are catching up today." As she finished, Wynn smiled to show she really was ok, as even though she'd been hoping he'd eventually move here with her she did understand.

With his last words, Wynn put a hand on his arm saying happily "Alright, then let's get looking!" as she turned slightly and waved with a hand at her booth with it's makeshift portable racks of hanging clothes.

Z'rain perked up considerably after seeing that Bronwynn was at least refraining from judging him out loud! He chuckled and followed her to look at the clothes on the rack.

"I'd be happy to tell you about them," he said. "There's, ah. Well. He blushed. There's B'nault. He was a miner before he got Searched and Impressed at High Reaches. And then he found his way to Igen a while later. Took him a while to get used to the heat."

"And there's J'ril. He was a runner. Spent a good bit of his younger days running up and down the east coast up North at Benden. He ended up running up to the Weyr one day, and well, the rest is history as they say. And then he transferred to Igen, too. B'nault and J'ril, they're together, too."

"And there's Gabril. He grew up at Keroon. He's a master beastcrafter, and they brought him to the weyr to work with the herdsmen there. And you should see the man in his herding gear." He laughed. "It's a sight to behold."
