Taregs whole leg twitched as he caught the very sore spot, jerking back towards his body after the aborted kick at Cremsden. “Sorry sorry.” He tensed, eying the healer for any reaction before making himself relax, the scissors now in his hand and very visible.

"It's fine, it's fine, I poke something that hurts I expect--" Cremsden's voice was a reassuring murmur until he finally glanced up and caught sight of the scissors. For a moment he stopped, hands stilling on Tareg's ankle.

"Put those down, there's a good lad," he said, voice very calm. "Next to you is fine, where you can reach 'em is fine, but you wave anything sharp around when I'm setting off your reflexes like this and you're as liable to hurt yourself as someone else."

Blackadder: I mean, what about the people that do all the work?
Baldrick: The servants.
Blackadder: No, me; *I'm* the people who do all the work.

Phyllia had started out with a scolding tone, but at the end of it she

"Healers!  Someone!  Help!"

Cuylar's ears practically perked up at the call, and he was there in a few moments.

"What's going on here?" he asked. "What has she got in her mouth?" Without waiting, Cuylar guided Megin toward whatever nearby shade he could find.

It was a relief to know they were close and she would be able to find a place to set Dahlia down. The flit wasn't heavy at all, but keeping her arm crooked like that, and being so careful not to jostle Dahlia was making the muscles in her arm a bit sore.

When she reached the spot where Lerian had stopped, Almira took it in and smiled. "It's really pretty here. Almost reminds me of home. There are some pretty streams and waterfalls there, too." She carefully knelt and found a place in the soft sand to lay Dahlia down, then turned to take the water skin from Lerian as she took in the scenery again. It was pretty, sure, but she would be staying away from the water, content to just view it from the bank.

Licking her lips she gave him a half smile, “umm so Weyrlingmasters work with the young riders?”  She gave him a sheepish look.  “I’m sorry I haven’t been to that many Weyr placements.”  She wrinkled her nose a little.  “It, being a rider, sounds like it might be a bit busier than I originally thought.”  Ishi was not too proud to admit when she didn’t know something.  She was quick to get her food though, enough to tide her over for the rest of the day. Making her way back she smiled, “go get some food T’od.”  She hesitated over his name as she wasn’t sure if she could just call him that, “or am I meant to be calling you Bronzerider T’od or Sir?”

No, surely not, not with Awsonth always there for him. But he swung himself onto a bench and grinned at her, offering her one of the klah mugs. "Go get food, I'll wait here and save our spaces."

Then I got distracted and by the time I felt the burn it was too late, so I came straight here."

Ysolde was matter of fact about it and didn't display any signs of self pity. Later on, when the pain really set in, that would probably change a bit. She offered a sheepish smile at the other girl. "Ysolde here hails from the North, as is very evident by her fair complexion and hair colour - not something that is as common here in the South." As she spoke, Maithera gestured to to the body parts in question. "So we do have a burn risk already, however as you can see, Ysolde already has substantial burn scars on her back, these travel from her nape of her neck to almost the small of her back with some extension onto the tops of her shoulders and top of her arms. These burns are significant and still susceptible to sun damage, as is evident here..." Maithera pointed to the angry sunburn on Ysolde's arms and neck.

"Ysolde is provided with protective lotions and given a strict regime in order to prevent further burn.. such as?" And here she looked pointedly at Ysolde who took the cue. "Wear a hat and cover up," she mumbled but loud enough to be audible.

The voice that followed was morose and feeling more than a little sorry for itself.

"I know. I just.. I was looking for raw gems near the Lake. I didn't realise I had been out so long."

"That's all well and good, but now I've got to sign you off outdoor lessons for at least a sevenday so this burn can heal. You don't want to  be making an enemy of Candidatemaster Nayari, she's stern enough without you being in her bad books as well."

A loud sigh followed, chased after by a pained yelp.

"No, don't try and do it on your own." Maithera stuck her head out of the curtains and spotted a passing Apprentice. "Ishkana!" the Journeywoman smiled at her, beckoning her in. "Ysolde here could use a hand, she's sustained some very nasty sunburn on existing scars, would you be so kind to come and help? She needs a hand putting this ointment on."

And inside the cubicle, sat on the bed with a vest on to preserve her modesty, was a very sulky looking Ysolde, bottom lip thrust out as she awkwardly tried to remain comfortable.

Re: I'm not lost exactly (Ishixi/T'od)

T'od shrugged. "Not really," he told her, "There's more to being a rider that a lot of folk have no idea about. Like harness repairs, drill charts and paperwork. Plus I'm an Assistant Weyrlingmaster, so when we have young dragonpairs there's just no time for that sort of thing." He thought for a moment. Did he sound lonely? No, surely not, not with Awsonth always there for him. But he swung himself onto a bench and grinned at her, offering her one of the klah mugs. "Go get food, I'll wait here and save our spaces."

"Go ahead and grab her if you can lass, she'll not bite, at least not much. Almost got her broke of that. She's still a babe though."

The puppy, seeing a closer human panted and changed direction towards the girl swimming with frantic eagerness. Whom the pup then tried frantically to climb on top of, completely dunking the little green who complained with a screech, then betweened back into the air above them, scolding furiously.

When she touched him, Asheran tensed up - not because the salve was cold, or because he hadn't been expecting her hands, but because he had been, and he'd been so focused on the moment that it made him jump when it happened... and then he felt the muscles in his back and side twist up, threatening to cramp again. He exhaled through his nose, trying to pay attention to the sudden distraction that the flit provided. It got him smiling tightly again, at least.

"I was downstairs for awhile, but I moved upstairs after it started to get really crowded. Far side, right in the corner. Been there a... couple turns, now." He turned his head again, just slightly, enough to look back at her out of the corner of his eye. "Don't think anybody spends much time in the tannercraft hall when there's not hides to steep. Kinda stinks."

Teyra, being short, was fairly used to not touching the bottom of the lake and simply laughed and rode the wave out as much as she could, then the responding one from Stakarth.

"I think they are having a splashing contest." She said with a bit of laughter in her voice.

Stakarth, turned to look at the two small humans, snorted once then sank herself down into the water, shedding a whole chunk of mud from her side as she did so.

Teyra, had been tugging at the last bit of straps, the mud had effectively glued shut, and when it gave, she toppled over, landing on her butt in the sand.

"Shards, but that one was stuck!" Only then did she seem to notice the bronze pair landing nearby. She sat up, wiping a grimy hand across her forehead and gave him a bashful smile.

"Uh sorry about that, yes it is a lovely day..." Teyra would have continued, perhaps appologising for their appearance, but Stakarth took up the conversation, ((Yes it is, it was a lovely day, and I found mud. It feels so nice on my hide.))

But if we bath now I can dry in the sun without needing to move. Awsonth as usual was being.. not exactly lazy, but conserving the strength in his back legs. If there was no need for him to take flight again after the bath, why should he? Then you can go and eat, and we can fly back up later.

T'od couldn't fault his logic, which was no surprise,so he agreed and the pair winged their way down to the lake. One of their preferred spots was already taken by a number of splashing and cavorting young dragons, so they went a little further than normal. Coming down by a green pair, whose names T'od wasn't sure of, he waved anyway as he removed Awsonth's harness.

"Lovely day for it, isn't it?" he called across to the green's rider.

Re: Making the b...where's my boot? (J'hen/Zezzev)

Alyx

"Oh, would you?" The elderly rider sounded almost pathetically thankful. This whole morning had been just not going his way. J'hen went to sit on the other side of the bed, where the sheets were now absent, and reached down coming up with a boot, he pulled it on. Then he reached down for the other, thinking that perhaps it was under a pillow, or the blanket on this side. While he was looking over there, and while the younger fella was occupied with stripping the bed, Saly made good her escape from under the bed, the grey speckled pup craftily snuck through the shadows, dragging the soft indoor boot and made a beeline for the outer ledge, where a long skinny brown was dozing. Saly saw a dark spot to hide, next to Nehryth's side, between his tail and body, where the wing had draped. A perfect hiding spot to chew. It took the lanky little pup a couple tries, but she made it into the hole, without rousing the dragon too much.

Zezzev smothered down a giggle that he'd probably have never let out in any situation anyway, at the green firelizard. then nodded at the brownrider.  "I'm...not in a rush, sir."  He said stepping forward, paused again to cast a glance at Featherhead as if there was certainly something else he could say.  Then didn't say it and instead moved toward the bed.  "I can finish that up if you want, sir."

With a final petulant chirp, Featherhead abandoned her perch and flitted back to the rider's shoulder. Once there she cheeped happily and preened a bit of the man's white hair affectionately. The old man rolled his light blue eyes at the flit's quick change of attitude. Then he looked about for the young pup he'd gotten at the gather, but he didn't see her anywhere.

"Yea, forgot today was laundry day." The old man chuckled softly at his failing, and continued. "But I've nearly got the bed stripped. Though I could certainly use a hand if you're not in a rush?"

Re: How to Mimic Clean (Kirene, any rider)

Alyx

Around the curve of the brown's long tail, an old man was sloshing his way towards the pup, but it would take time to get there. Featherhead was circling around the puppy cheeping in distress, and the dragon appeared not to have noticed, or simply wasn't worried about the whole ordeal. But with Nehryth it was sometimes hard to tell. The old man though was glad that someone was closer to the pair than he was.

"Go ahead and grab her if you can lass, she'll not bite, at least not much. Almost got her broke of that. She's still a babe though."

The puppy, seeing a closer human panted and changed direction towards the girl swimming with frantic eagerness. Though she wasn't too good at it and slipped under once, only to be pulled back to the surface by a quick dive and tug from the green flit. Whom the pup then tried frantically to climb on top of, completely dunking the little green who complained with a screech, then betweened back into the air above them, scolding furiously.

One of the first lessons taught in Beastcrafting was to not approach frightened animals without the proper precautions.  But, shard it, that wasn't really about frightened animals that were struggling not to drown while she didn't know whether the elderly owner could get around his dragon in time.  Kirene silently kicked off her shoes before stepping forward into the water and wading in the puppies direction.  "You need a hand there?"  She asked gently, more to the puppy but part her head was partly turned enough that she could be addressing the rider's direction too.

Not too far out in the lake was a skinny, and very old looking dragon. This was a brown who'd gone grey around his muzzle, but though old, he showed every sign of being exceptionally healthy and well cared for. His hide showed lines of scores here and there, though most looked as if they had been relatively minor, and had long since healed. His wings looked  a bit large on his thin frame, and he emphasized this by spreading them out on the water's surface like some sort of tarp. Nehryth's chin rested on a nice warm flat rock while the rest of him floated.

He seemed a rather normal looking dragon, other than his age, what was not as normal however was the young puppy, that was scrambling about on his back, and across his floating wings like it was some sort of great game. This young blue merle pup was chasing a slender green flit back and forth across the brown's back with every bit of energy they possessed. Unfortunately for the pup, Featherhead, the little green flit, flew a bit too far forward on Nehryth's wing edge, and when Saly leaped at the green, she found nothing but water. The pup let out a frightened yelp and began paddling frantically, and the rider who was still hidden from sight by the bulk of the brown dragon could be heard.

"Shard it Featherhead, you know Saly isn't a good swimmer yet."  The voice was obviously that of an old man, it was soft, and rich as if in his years he'd spent a lot of time singing. It was a strong voice still, and didn't quiver with age.

Re: A Walk to Remember Alyx/Any

Alyx

Alyx nodded to herself, and scooped a little of the salve out, rubbing it between her hands to warm it up a little. No one liked cold slime on them after all. Then she leaned forwards to begin applying the salve. She also kept talking to keep his mind occupied, like many healers before her, she'd found having light conversation made treatments go easier.

"I've been upstairs for quite a while now. It's usually a bit quieter, and that's nice. Though sometimes I do wish for some space of my own. Glad that healers get to use that quiet study room. Nice to get away from all the little ones now and again."

Ardy was rather intrigued by the young man, and as his face changed, and he smiled the flit sat back and cheeped what was meant as an encouragement at him. Sending simple images that his pet would make the pain stop.

"Didn't realise you were a candidate, too," he said as he looked over at the flit and flashed a tight-lipped smile, not wholly certain if teeth were displays of aggression to the little lizards. While he was looking at the firelizard, he found himself flushing red, and turned his head down to cough into his arm, biting back a sudden impulse to say something entirely inappropriate to her last question.

"Uh, my... leg." His thigh, mostly, and where it joined his hip and buttocks, whatever muscle that was that flowed up into his side and back. He was sure he knew more than he could suddenly remember, maybe even about what that group of muscles might be called, but it was well beyond him now. "Yeah. My - my leg. Left leg. You bunking in the upstairs barracks, or the lower half?"

"Yes, Ardy's a very good flit. He took a fair bit of training to get him to recognize certain symbols we use in the infirmary. But once I got him to realize there were different things in different jars, well he's been a blessing. And no, not quite journeyman yet, being a candidate has slowed me up quite a bit at times. But I do what I can. Only, I'll be off for a little bit I bet. I've got to leave the weyr for a few days, go home, and see to things for my grandfather."

There was a little bit of distance in that last sentence. It truly was not something she wanted to do. But no one ever wanted to handle such things. Ardy came up along side the pair of them, and wandered up by the young man's head, tilting his own narrow little head down near the not pet's head. Alyx pulled the top off the jar, releasing a mildly astringent smell, of the creamy white mixture inside.

"Where's the worst of the pain?"
