Re: (Razelth's Clutch) The Ground Rules (Attn: Any Candidates)
Ever since her chance run in with Delysia - well, okay not so much chance as threw herself in the deep end - Ysolde had been bristling with excitement and when it was announced that the Goldrider was coming to speak to the Candidates, Ysolde had felt a deep tingle of satisfaction. She *knew* it! True, there had also been some hastily scribbled calculations as to when Razelth had flown and a few innocent questions of how long a gold typically gestated for. As much as Ysolde didn't like to openly brag, she had enjoyed the feeling that "being right" brought with it. No, it wasn't exactly the achievement of the year, but still, it was just a nice little feeling. Seated towards the back, even though her toes had itched to drag her to the front in prompt attention, Ysolde had listened to some of the questions and had winced a little when a Candidate she didn't really recognise asked how many eggs there were. So maybe she was a touch nervy but if that was her up there? Well, that would almost feel like doubt that her dragon had done a good job. And there would probably be an acerbic retort for their trouble. She had waited for some other Candidates to ask their questions before she too had raised her hand, getting to her feet when attention was cast her way. "Thank you for taking the time to come and see us all personally, Goldrider Delysia," she began politely. "I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we are overjoyed that Razelth has clutched and the fact that you are here inviting us tells us she is in good spirits." Her last few words were edged slightly and she darted her eyes around the room as if daring someone to challenge it or question as to the validity of the clutch. It was all very diplomatic, that was for sure and she hoped, no she prayed, that she wasn't coming off as anything more than polite and respectful. That was in fact the genuine intention. "Thank you, and to Razelth, for extending the invitation to let us come and visit her. The only question I have is actually more for you, ma'am. Is there anything that we, as Candidates, can do that would be beneficial for you or Razelth should we come visit? For example, rather than have staffers run back and forth, if Candidates are visiting at certain times, would it be helpful if we say, brought meals or linen supplies? I know there is the small weyr for the Goldriders at the Cavern." It was all very polite and very deliberate. But Ysolde had decided that if she was going to try and win the good graces of anyone, it was going to be Golrider Delysia. Even she wasn't sure why - but she wanted the woman's respect. No, she didn't even imagine friendship was remotely on the charts, but she had this burning need to demonstrate decorum, that despite the thrum of excitement, she could hold it all together. OoC: No seriously, I have no idea why but Ysolde has decided that Delysia is her new role model xD Other Candies, feel free to thumb their nose and call Ysolde a suck up if they want :P

Re: (Razelth's Clutch) The Ground Rules (Attn: Any Candidates)
"A real gold dragon, " Val thought to himself. So much of this world was still new to him. He wanted...no he needed to see the magnificent mother of this new clutch.
Would he be allowed to stand upon the sands in those few weeks time? Most likely not. He was too new. Too untrained. Too unknowing of the riders. But here would meet the dragon and maybe speak in her presence. He only wished he had his mother's flute. She taught him, and part of him wished he'd had the strength back then to keep it safe. To be among the dragons would have been a dream come true for her. His mind was made up. Valouran would first fine a flute and then play his mother's lullaby for the new mother. Her spirit would dance for the exalted creature.

His hand shot up, and there was only one burning question in his mind - one that he noticed someone else had already asked. Asheran lowered his arm moments later, after Tyelko finished speaking, feeling a measure of relief; he had heard it was impolite to ask, and impolite to speculate, but there was an ongoing bet among some of the candidates, and he had chores riding on the outcome.
And more than that, honestly. A lot more.

Re: (Razelth's Clutch) The Ground Rules (Attn: Any Candidates)
Tyelko raised his hand, almost sheepishly. "I have one, ma'am." he spoke up. "Can- can you tell us how many eggs there are?" Just in case Razelth was in front of one or two, or something.

(Razelth's Clutch) The Ground Rules (Attn: Any Candidates)
mglady3@...
Delysia's stance was relaxed, feet planted wide, arms behind her back, as she surveyed the sea of faces before her. A small, pale gold firelizard perched on her right shoulder and appeared to study the crowd with bright jeweled-eyed interest.
They looked so very young, Delysia mused as she waited for the last few stragglers to take their seat. Had she looked so very young when she'd been a candidate? "Good afternoon." She began. Her voice was pleasant, though her gaze was cool as she scanned the crowd, ready to spear any would-be troublemaker. "For those you who might not know me, I'm Delysia, rider to gold Razelth. As some you may have already heard, Razelth has laid her clutch in the main hatching cavern. You are welcome to visit her, but before you do, CM Nayari has been kind enough to allow me to come before you to go over a few rules. To be perfectly clear, these are my rules and should be respected *in addition to* any directions that your candidate masters have or will give you. No exceptions." She paused, checking to make sure that she had everyone's attention. "Firstly, while you're free to visit the caverns, do not approach Razelth or the eggs. Stick to the stands - and the parts of the sands necessarily to approach the stands." She smiled coolly. "You will get your chance to see the eggs up close in a few weeks. The ability to delay gratification is a wonderful trait. I suggest that all of you who wish to become dragonriders cultivate it." "Secondly, while on the stand, you are welcome to converse. The acoustics of the cavern being what they are, assume that Razelth will hear everything that you say. And so, by extension, will I." She narrowed her eyes. "Exercise discretion." "Some you may have heard that Razelth is a gentle, easy-going dragon. That is true. But she still has the instincts of a gold mother guarding her clutch. Do not provoke those instincts. If you do, I will know who's at fault." "Razelth will become bored and will attempt to converse with you. You are welcome to converse back. If you do not wish to converse with her for whatever reason, she will not be offended, so long as you are polite in your refusal." "Bring pets at your own risk. Anything that runs on to the sands runs the risk of getting eaten. Firelizards will very likely get bossed around by this one." She indicated the flit on her shoulder. "You have been forewarned. Decide accordingly." "And finally." She paused again to draw breath. "Those of you who are musically inclined may bring your instruments to entertain Razelth, but bad music is absolutely not allowed. If there is a question of whether your music is good or bad, this one will let you know." Again she indicated the firelizard on her shoulder. "Are there any questions?"

Re: (Razelth's Clutch) And So It Begins (Attn: Ysolde/Any)
mglady3@...
A very good response - polite, diplomatic, subtle. The candidate obviously knew that Razelth was clutching - or at the very least at good reason to suspect so - or otherwise, she'd not have felt any qualms about entering the hatching caverns. Yet she was bright enough to understand that bringing it up would curry no favors with Delysia. Instead, she promised discretion - in the most discrete way possible. The corners of Delysia's mouth curled reluctantly. She did prefer to deal with intelligent people. She inspected the young woman standing in front of her. She didn't recognize her, which probably meant (though no necessarily) that she'd entered candidacy after Delysia herself had left it. Delysia didn't bother much with candidates as a rule, though with Razelth laying, it perhaps it behoove her to take more of an interested. "A generous offer. I thank you." She replied, with just a touch of dryness in her tone. "But I do not require any assistance today." She added firmly, a note of dismissal on her voice. And indeed, Delysia was turning to return into the cavern when she paused to toss a few final words over her shoulder. "If your walk should take you this way again tomorrow, Ysolde, you'll find the cavern open to you. Mind you stick to the stands, though."

Citruse eyed the other Wher, somewhat less judgmentally than she would've other pets, still she was considering her own opinion. K'gra though noted they were keeping a distance away from him and Citruse, it was a little disappointing, but considering who was with the Wher he figured it made sense. "Good day, Weyrwoman. It's a good day for them out here too hmm." He inclined his head toward Citruse and then Brogan.

Speaking To The Sun (atten: Kassia, Foreth)
Sunstreath had spotted the gold almost immediately when he'd flown up to perch on the Rim, silent for a long few moments as he considered what to do. ((I'des. I'des, there is a gold.)) (Course there is, Sun-sun. It's a Weyr, isn't it?) ((Mine. It is a gold.)) (So go say hi. Wait, which gold is it?) Sunstreath didn't deign to reply, instead swooping to snatch and kill a herdbeast from the pens, and then angling to drop it before the gold, landing just beyond and immediately lowering his head. ((I have never seen a gold as magnificently beautiful as you.))

~Other wher~ Brogan warned as they came around a corner and K'gra and Citruse came into view.
"It's all right, just give them space," Kassia said, eyeing the pair. There were few other whers that she trusted completely.

Re: Bathtime (att S'tinas/ any)
I'des grinned, shaking his head. "Nah, Ista born and bred, both of us. Sunstreath there came for me right outta the shell." he responded, still amused by his dragon's attitude. "Don't take it personal if he ignores you. He's not the most social of beasts." ((You can have a different patch of sun. This one is mine.)) Sunstreath responded, simply, and settled down to bask in just the right pose

“Nice to meet you too,” S’tinas replied, shedding his shirt, “You originally from Arolos? I was born in Fort, but raised here. Impressed here too.” ((They think they are so hard done by, yet they know they would be jealous of other riders if they hadn’t met us.)) Lepturuth told Sunstreath, ((I hope he hurries so I can get to sunning too.)) Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPad

Qioyon noticed the older teen walking past, but put her from his mind since she'd obviously walked past without stopping. So the sudden voice startled him and he lowered his arms, not quite back to his sides, before looking at Ysolde. "Oh sure! I mean I've got to be better off than the fruit." He said, pausing at the end of his comment, then raised his hands just in case she'd not seen all the stains on them. "I...really didn't mean to get so much of them on me."

Re: Fruit Destruction at it's Messiest (attn: Ysolde, Qioyon)
Brushing the crumbs for her tunic as she went, Ysolde had strolled quickly through the tunnels back towards the Barracks. If she didn't hang about, she would have a couple of hours to work on the gems she had under her cot before her next lesson was due to start. She'd had a productive day today and was feeling pleased with herself as she moved quickly through the Barracks, initially walking past the other person who had been stood still. She was so busy with her own thoughts that all she had registered at first was to avoid running into them. She was a good several steps back when she stopped and looked back, noticing for the first time the slightly lost and sad look on the kid's face. "Hey," she began, back-tracking until she was alongside him. "You okay?"

Fruit Destruction at it's Messiest (attn: Ysolde, Qioyon)
Mya L. R.
The day before he'd ruined most of his sevenday's assignments, both Candidate & Crafting. It'd been too late that day for him to put together an appropriate apology, so during kitchen chores he'd talked a cook into letting him prepare a small fruit bowl for the ACM & journeyman he needed to apologize too. He left chores with his hands, and several splotches on his arms, discolored in several colors from fruit juices, but had actually built 2 somewhat draconic-shaped fruit sculptures. The sculptures were where they needed to be, leaving just him a messy indication he'd been into something...colorful. It was in the middle of the Candidate Barracks that he stopped and raised his arms out in front of him, staring somewhat sadly at the amount of stuff he'd gotten onto himself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Member Name: MyaL Discord: Neffeyn#8723

K'gra pulled his attention from his paperwork as Citruse paced around his office. She'd been quite for several hours, so it made sense that she might need to stretch her legs after the inactivity. Just the thought about stretching legs made his own legs feeling its own ache over the prolonged sitting he'd been doing for those hours. Sighing, he stretched his legs, then shoved himself from his chair putting some of the weight onto his arms while letting his legs readjust to standing. "Okay, Citruse, how about you see how long it takes us to get back here." He said before moving to get her set for the long, then lead the way outside. The lake was one of the last places he took her on their stroll, his mind was already turning back onto the papers awaiting him when the Gold Wher suddenly turned sharply looking at another Wher nearby. ~*Cit' know 'ere.*~ She sent.

Re: Training day... activate! (Tyne/ANY)
To most, Tyne was a familiar figure by now - the important difference, she hoped at least, was that less people immediately went "That's former Goldrider Tyne, her dragon is dead you know" in their heads and then nervously edged away because they didn't know how to talk to her. In a sense, her newfound "skill" had given her a sense of purpose and an important one at that. As the chattering emotions filled her, Tyne beamed with delight. Boredom was replaced with glee and fun and the warm myriad of colour made her toes curl. After tossing the hoops multiple times, Tyne asked Bobbin to take the troupe hunting whilst she took a break and they swarmed up into the sky, dive-bombing the lake like colourful pebbles. There were other flits nearby too and Tyne relaxed her thoughts enough to let them leak in, feeling warmth on her skin as the echoes of appreciating the sun on hide bled over or the contented, sated feeling of having enjoyed a fresh fish. Oh yes, this was a new kind of solitude right here. She was reaching into the large bag for the flask of juice she had brought and had just taken a deep mouthful when the she heard the voice. Although she flinched just slightly, the first waves of panic trying to coil about her belly, Tyne flattened them firmly. No. She was having a good day and she was enjoying herself. No matter what her head tried to say. So when she smiled at the Bluerider, it was genuine and tinged with more than a little pride - an indulgent mother watching her brood. "They were screaming boredom so I thought I should get the out before I found every item of clothing torn to shreds." She gestured to the hoops. "I got inspired by one of the jugglers at a Gather - we use them to practice teamwork." She found the request to watch a little surprising. Normally people just made themselves comfortable to watch the show without even asking if she minded. She was surprised to realise that she enormously appreciated the tiny gesture of being asked. "You're welcome to. I've got them distracted for the minute so I can actually stop for a drink myself."

Re: (Razelth's Clutch) And So It Begins (Attn: Ysolde/Any)
Yes, those were footsteps she heard coming towards her and for a split second, Ysolde had to ask herself whether she had just done something entirely stupid. But then again, sometimes you had to put out feelers in order to find whether you had made a really bad decision... or whether it might actually be worthwhile. Well, if she was sent scurrying away with a cuffed ear, at least she knew she could send an apology later. Correcting her posture just as Delysia came into view, Ysolde bowed politely in greeting. She could do manners and propriety - her Da had always told her she was good at that. "My lessons are done for the day, ma'am. I was taking advantage of the clear sky to get a brisk walk in before we were called in for evening curfew." No point in making up some silly lie, she felt sure that if she tried to make excuses that Delysia would see right through it. "I always double back around near the cavern because I have to use the steps to get back to the Barracks." Again, true - it was easy to become a bit lazy with days of lessons and Ysolde found it was good for her to get out and stretch her legs. She wasn't sure why, but she had the niggling feeling that she had to be extremely diplomatic with what she said. No presumptions or little exaggerations. "That was when I saw you rush by, ma'am. You seemed in such a hurry and with it being late in the day, I thought it would be rude if I didn't offer any assistance when I was close enough to do so. I know how much Goldriders have to deal with day to day and you must have a lot more to do with Razelth being gravid. If you don't need anything, I will leave you to your peace - I don't want to be any nuisance or intrusion." Although it was a little prim and proper, it was also apparent that Ysolde was being very genuine with what she was saying - without overtures of sucking up. She *didn't* want to be a bother and would leave without argument if asked... or told. No, as much as she was more than absolutely positive that the lovely gold was indeed gracing the sands with the newest clutch, it had also occurred to her that if that was the case, maybe the Goldrider wanted to enjoy it first. And if something like that was the case, Ysolde actually didn't blame Delysia. She suspected that if it were her, she'd keep it a secret for as long as she could before getting swarmed by eager Candidates, Rankers and everyone else in between. In her experience, it was usually announced, often by the Gold themselves. There had been no such announcements and if asked, Ysolde knew how to keep her mouth shut.
