Re: Candidates - Cleaning up the foliage (Devika, Any Candidates)

Irlinyt didn’t mind cleaning, but he had maybe spent a bit too much time working on a drawing of a new outfit design. So he put rested his hands on the rake handle and leaned back, stretching and a little yawn escaped. As well as a very satisfying crack from his back.

“A wee bit of a cranky ‘lizard, isn’t he,” Irlinyt asked, giving a little grin and nod in the firelizard’s direction.

On his shoulder, Morgisu sat growling at the others present with Amaranta being the only one not receiving a scathing look or sound. Luicion had to chuckle.

"Hey, buddy, it'e fine, yeah? Just cleaning up and looking for some cool stuff. Eh? Might find some nice shiny stuff." Luicion grinned at his tiny dark bronze while moving his rake through the sand. Morgisu, for his part, grunted and settled back down on Luicion's shoulder, angry eyes still on the others.

Nearby, Rennitz had significantly less trouble with her firelizard wanting to help clean up. Brown Aranck happily carried larger sticks in his claws and piles of leaves in his mouth to the pile that the queen had set up. He was quite content to help and couldn't understand why Morgisu wouldn't- helping humans was a priority, wasn't it? But even he knew that the bronze was angry and hateful and best left alone.

Rennitz herself was more inclined to help because it needed to be done for everyone's safety and the happiness of the Weyr. If this debris remained on the ground, then people could trip on it, get cut by branches, animals could get hurt, the list went on. The redhead smiled at the others pleasantly as she worked. "Nice to see that so many of us have friends to help us." She felt good in the warm Southern weather, sun shining down on her.

Heersofali immediately found himself drawn to Valouran due to the boy's hesitance and awkwardness. He went to work next to him with a grin. "Hey, you're new to the weyr, yeah? Welcome! I'm Heersofali. Interested in the firelizards, huh? Chances are there'll be a green rising in no time and you might be able to get an egg yourself. Shoot, my own Seilly might go up soon, Faranth knows she's due for it. I'd be happy to give you one from her."

Unlike the others, Sonnellion went about cleaning the bowl essentially just because he was told to. He found Luicion's eagerness to find treasure in the sand to be almost childish, and his seeming refusal to enforce his bronze to work only seemed to add to Sonnellion's disdain for the boy. His own blue Doshe was working with him to clean up rather diligently and Sonnellion had to admit he had pride in that. His blue was behaving better than that kid's bronze.

That first suggestion made him sit back onto his heels, mind turning to thoughts of what sort of apology present he could bring in with his explanation.  He'd not expected another comment from the brown so soon after that suggestion and he jerked his gaze back onto the brown, wide-eyed with obvious surprise.  "Uhh.  Sorry was thinking about how to apologize!  I'm from Arolos Hold, actually was born at Igen Weyr but I would only have been a few months old when mom transferred from there, so I don't think anyone from there would be able to recognize me."  Qioyon paused a moment before adding in a bit more slowly.  "I mean...if you're from Igen that is."

It only took a moment, and he was through the water, and swimming closer, he used one of his large forelegs to scoop the rest of the soggy notes out of the water and dump them on a clump on the sands for the young lad.  ((Hm...boy, where are you from, you look familiar.)) Though...why he looked familiar currently escaped the brown dragon.

Jostling the few papers she had under her arm, she brushed her hair
from her eyes. "Hey, do you want a bit of a tour? I'm not sure if
you've had chance to look around yet. If you like, we could swing by
the Dining Hall and get something to eat too, if you like."

Food sounded great to Phyllia. Now that she had found someone
friendly to talk to, and who was willing to show her around, the
girl's stomach was no longer a churning knot, and it had been a long,
long time since breakfast.

"That sounds lovely, if you really don't mind doing so, if you're not
busy with anything." The last thing Phyllia wanted to do was
interrupt someone who had other things to do.

"Oh, I was born and raised down here," Phyllia said with a small

Ysolde seemed very nice, and Phyllia was feeling better by the moment.
At the mention of the woman rider who had done her introduction,

she was going to have a heart attack throughout the entire

"I kept thinking she was going to send me back at any moment.
Especially when she found out I didn't know how to read or write yet."

The shudder wasn't missed and it made Ysolde chuckle, a sweet sound that seemed edged with the potential for mischief. "Oh, she definitely is scary but she likes to get a measure of people. You can teach someone to read and write - doesn't mean you can teach them to be a good person." Oh yes, she had had her own share of face to faces with Nayari - it seemed that the woman liked to take many of the meetings herself rather than delegate them to someone else. "She really does want to make sure two things, one - do you *want* to be here and two - are you here for the right reasons. But trust me, if you've got something going on, she's the one who will move Thread and Between to make sure you're okay."

The similarity in complexion and hair colour hadn't gone amiss to Ysolde either. "First rule! If you're not from the South, cover yourself up until you get used to the heat. Trust me, I learned the hard way!" Ysolde scrunched her nose up and as she trotted closer, held out her hand in friendly greeting. "Me and my Da came down from the North and it took some getting used to, that's for sure." Smiling at the other girl, Ysolde's red curls bounced around her head like a cascade of ribbons. "I'm Ysolde. It's really nice to meet you. Did Nayari do your introduction? I know she likes to do them herself if she can - she seems a scary wher but she's good people."

Ysolde had been around long enough by now that she recognised the wherry in dragonsights look of someone who had just arrived. As it happened, she was just bringing back her clean uniform from the laundry and had stopped in the common room to check the schedule for the coming week.

"Hi!" she said cheerfully, carefully making her way towards Phyllia without dropping her clean clothing on the floor. "I'd recognise that look anywhere - just arrived?"

Re: Candidates - Cleaning up the foliage (Devika, Any Candidates)

Jenna Cunningham

"I guess. I think she'll train alright, but I haven't really had the chance, with chores and everything else." He grinned sheepishly, unwilling to admit that he'd been spending every spare second he could - when he was allowed - as close as possible to the Sands. Then, his grin wiping clean in a brief moment of realization, he reached into his shirt and pulled the green firelizard free despite her pitiable complaints. She sent him flashes of a little dragonet, wing caught up in her own shattered eggshell, mewling. He stroked her neck surreptitiously, and tried to look somewhat taciturn about it. The little flit would just have to learn that he was in charge.

"Oh, she's mine, here. Not that blue. That's Lerian's there, I think."

He lifted his arm to gesture toward Lerian, and Felix curled around his arm, wings flaring, before launching herself airborne with a few ungainly flaps, crabbing onto the nearest tree branch. He felt his expression slip, and realised he was smiling again, and glanced back at the girl. After spending nearly four turns as an unsuccessful candidate, he had a passing familiarity with most of his peers, especially those around his own age, but he wasn't as good with the girls' names as the boys' - except for Alyx, of course. He was somewhat smitten.

D-something? Deborah? He'd have to find an excuse to reintroduce himself and...

"Guess I should just keep doing what they say."

He turned, glancing at one of the newer candidates. Even though he'd seen the boy around the dorms from time to time, he wasn't sure if they'd ever been properly introduced, which was perfect.

"What who say?" He asked, waving Valouran over.

Re: Candidates - Cleaning up the foliage (Devika, Any Candidates)

aidenleedeshra@...

Valouran watched the other candidates work. Cleaning, classes, scheduled days. He wasn't used to this way of life. At least they were outside though. He made himself busy by gathering sticks and branches and moving them out of the Hole.

The sixteen-year-old observed the flits and fire lizards working and playing alongside their humans. It was an odd and empty feeling that shook him. Would he ever experience a hatch? Would he ever be a rider? His mother told him such tales of their heroic feats and, for her, he wanted to be one of them so badly.

But even though he was a welcomed Candidate, he couldn't help but feel that he was still outside of the weyr. He felt alone. It wasn't a new feeling to the boy, but it wasn't one he longed for.

"Guess I should just keep doing what they say."
