"No, Lady, they aren't scaring me," she said. That real, honest smile, that was peaking out more and more the longer she was at the Weyr, graced Yiyu's lips briefly before slipping away.

"They're beautiful," she found herself repeating. The woman looked odd, spooked, almost. By her? Surely not.

The feelings, the *words*, simply formed in her mind. She shivered, at once delighted and afraid. When she spoke, it was little more than a whisper: "She spoke to me." Automatically, her hand continued to scritch the wher as she looked up at the man with wide, joyful eyes.

"Yes," she brightened visibly. "I met someone who handles whers just a day ago," she smiled at the memory. "

She had just picked it up when she heard the voice and she started, freezing in place and causing the flock to bristle in alarm at the spike of alert that rushed through Tyne.

"Who're you? Why are you here?" On another day, the voice might have been more demanding. Today it was edged with panic, as though she were caught doing something she shouldn't be doing.

"That's a very true belief," Rennitz agreed. She looked up at the Weyr rim where dragons of so many colors rested together. It had occurred to her, of course, that despite her wishes she could be Impressed by a green or blue who decided she was theirs, but the thought made her a bit uneasy. "I... used to think I'd follow in my father's footsteps and care for whers up north. He breeds runners and helps raise whers for local mines and bigger holds for watchwhers. If I don't Impress at all, I could always join the Whercraft. Have you heard of that?"

It... hadn't been a great day. No, not "bad" in the way Tyne knew "bad" could be but it had been one of those days where she had felt perilously close to that precipitous edge she knew far too well. She had spent most of the day in hiding in her quarters, practising her breathing techniques and grounding herself. It had been an activity that cost her most of the day and had been disturbed when she realised she hadn't eaten anything since the evening of the day before. Anything earlier in the day would undoubtedly have been returned by anxious retching but now, feeling a bit more in balance again, she decided that she needed to do two things - stretch her legs a little and find some food.

She had followed some of the more awkward and therefore lesser used tunnels to the Lower Caverns. It took longer, but the walk was used as another means to ground herself. When she had approached, she had sent Bobbin in, small note strapped to her leg. The gold knew exactly which staffer to head to. No, she wasn't sure she could deal with the bustle of the Dining Hall itself. Unfortunately, the wobble in Tyne's emotional state meant that her brood was feeling especially clingy. Whilst Bobbin and Cairn had had the places of honour on her shoulders, the others had been a train of colour that winked in and out of Between as they kept up, clinging to walls, glow baskets and supporting beams as they stayed close.

The gold had just returned with a small basket in tow, immediately resuming her sentinel post as the basket was plopped gently at Tyne's feet.

Oh, she knew the stories. Her lips turned down in a small frown as she considered the other girl's words. She thought of the three whers she'd met so recently and her words to their handler.

"I believe," she said carefully, "that everything and everyone has a place. I have to," she added quietly.

Nothing against them, of course, but when you grow up in an isolated hold and hear the stories..."

"You started it?" she asked, gaze widening as the green sniffed her. Slowly, carefully, she let her hand leave her side and stretch out to the green, careful to keep a respectful distance.

To say that Diagir was shocked was beyond. This small timid girl had sad that whers weren't ugly! A wide smile cracked and spread over his face and he gave a laugh. "You don't, eh? Well! You're absolutely in a minority among people, especially young ones like yourself. Most people, like you said, call these creatures ugly and monsters. But while they're not as smooth and graceful as dragons or firelizards, they're downright critical."

Reaching out a hand to his queen, Diagir ran his palm over her muzzle almost tenderly. "It's why I helped star the Whercraft, honestly."

Ziya purred under Diagir's attention and was inclined to give the girl more positive consideration. Vainglory came up to directly sniff the child with a little wag of her tail and genuine curiosity, while Diagirsk kept his distance.
