Let's Have Some Fun (Frost Fayre)(Elowyn/NPC Lisilia)

TrueTricia

A couple days before the Frost Fayre was scheduled to begin, a firelizard appeared with a note attached, and circled until it found Elowyn.  It delivered the note patiently, before departing quickly.

"Come up to the Fayre and let's have some fun! If you need a ride, make my brother take you. Don't take no for an answer. Loads of news to catch up on... -- Lis"

Re: I'm ordering you on a date...er rest ((WLM Ko'ssen, JM Hlr Vivaeldi))

TrueTricia

Vivaeldi inclined her head at his offer.  "Tea, please.  I still can't believe that there's no more klah at the moment.  It had medical uses, above and beyond the obvious morning benefits."  She watched him, as he went to warm the water.  "We are alike, you and I.  My brother usually has to make me take days off or relax.  He jokes that the only reason he throws his infamous parties is for my benefit."  She chuckled lightly.

She had no doubt that Ko'ssen hadn't been taking time for himself.  They were much alike in that way.  Not to mention, Ko'ssen was new at his job, and was contending with double golds.  It was more likely than not that he was throwing himself into his work with little thought for himself.  But the truth was running yourself raw was not good for anyone, as she herself knew all to well.

"I know that excuse well.  'Some time ago' is translation for 'it's been awhile.'  I've used that before as well..." she smiled.

Re: (Frost Fayre) A pair of snow bunnies Att: Aster/Gayatri

Gayatri had just barely seen her one passenger off, and had turned to head for the shopping booths to find a hood or warm hat -amid Edyth's mutters about the cold- when suddenly, someone came sliding into her. She bobbled and almost lost her own footing, but somehow managed to stay upright, mostly with the other person's help. "No worries. You've got some slick moves there."

(Frost Fayre) A pair of snow bunnies Att: Aster/Gayatri

Jerzy Tobin

The prospect of a winter gather had both Aster and Sunwuth feeling
excited and energetic. It wasn't that they hadn't ever seen snow
before; there had been Betweening lessons to the North, after all, and
even in the South snow could gather on mountain peaks that were high
enough, but they'd never actually really experienced *playing* in it.
Neither one of them had wanted to miss the opportunity.

So when the morning of the first day of the Frost Fayre had finally
arrived, Aster had dressed in his warmest clothes - silently wondering
if they'd be warm *enough* - and with a hop Between, the pair was
above High Reaches with several other dragons, all looking for a place
to land. Sunwuth found a spot next to a pretty little green, whose
own rider and a single passenger were dismounting. Careful not to
kick up too much snow onto the humans, Sunwuth landed and settled down
into the snow so that Aster could slide off of his neck. Aster did
so, but when hit feet hit the ground they seemed to find a patch of
ice instead of snow, sending him sliding into the greenrider!

"Whoops!" Aster exclaimed, managing to find enough balance to keep
both of them from toppling over, though not without a bit of
accidental manhandling. "Sorry about that!"

Support and recovery (attn: Insera/Wher Hall)

(OOC- dated to a fortnight before the Frost Fayre)

Zy'fen headed out of his weyr that day with his head full of an idea he'd been toying with for the past sevenday or so. He knew he would never be back to 100%, and even accepted that fact on most days, with the rare exception of days when he felt generally useless. Despite Nerenth's unfailing optimism, there were still days like that.

But now Zy'fen had an idea that might be of great help. But he had to talk to the right person first, and to that end, he was headed for the Wher hall office.

So I need a thing {Beraht, Ysolde}

ooc: fuzzied back erm a bit? ya how ever much she would need I suppose hehe

Beraht had seen a few people around with jewelry for their firelizards
and while he had seen it he had mostly ignored it at first. It wasn't
until he realized how late in th turn it was getting that the thought
came back to him. He knew it was frivolous, but well he though Keo
would look handsome in the right collar and maybe it would do
something for how the paint looked on him because he wasn't a fan of
the band. He understood the reason when it was explained, but didn't
mean he had to like them. He would have much rather come up with his
own design for the brown between him and his wife, but it was what it
was. This though was something that he could pick out and have it be
handsome on the little brown.

That decided he wrote a brief note and sent it with a runner to the
person he had learned made the jewelry to find a good time to meet
with her:

~~Ysolde

I have been advised that you are the crafter of the jewelry for the
firelizards. I am in search of a nice collar for my wife's
firelizard. Please send a message with a good time and place to meet.

Bonuses - Just in Time atten: Riders/Candidates/Kassia

sailyn2

With Kassia very close to her due date, officially she was on desk duty and to stay off her feet as much as possible but there was one last thing she wanted to do before she gave in entirely.
During the cool of the morning, before drills, riders and Candidates were brought together in front of the lake. Once everyone was settled down she spoke, with Foreth passing the message to the dragons for their riders. Anyone who might not hear would get the message soon enough anyway.

"Despite the toughness of the turn," she said. "you all have worked hard this turn and done the Weyr proud. After going through the tithes, we have still done enough for you to earn your bonuses for the turn. Those with rank: You will get a mark and a half. Other riders will get a full mark as your bonus. Candidates, you will get a 1/4 mark, be sure to spend it well. The marks will be distributed to wingleaders and the ACMs to pass out. If there are any quick questions I will take them, otherwise enjoy a little bit of extra fun at the Frost Fayre for me."

[Frost Fayre] Baby, it's cold outside (attn Ileanna)

Amy Frazey

Zy'fen straightened up and leaned against Nerenth, pressing his forehead to the brown's warm hide. He was looking forward to getting out of the Weyr for a bit, but also felt more than a little trepidation. They'd only recently begun taking short flights around the immediate area. It was a bit nerve-racking, but he was slowly getting the hang of the differences.

{{I have faith. It is different, but we can do this. It's a simple flight and a jump *Between*. Nothing we can't handle.}}

Zy'fen sighed and looked up, than nodded and gave Nerenth a reassured smile. ((Sure we can, Nerry. Please be extra careful with Ileanna, though.))

Nerenth snorted, and gave His rider a calm blue-green look. {{We can do this.}}

And with that, Zy'fen turned to look for the woman in question.

Frost Ferrying (Frost Fayre: attn any)

Amy Frazey

Gayatri was tickled pink to be able to go to the Frost Fayre. She'd never seen snow, and was definitely looking forward to this particular Gather. The lifting of the weyr lockdown had cheered a lot of people up, she imagined. She guessed that most of the weyr was going, and Edyth had agreed to act as a ferry dragon, though they were only allowed to take one passenger.

So there they stood, Gayatri in her best (and prettiest) cold weather gear, waiting to see who wanted a ride.

A Discussion of Opportunities ((Attn: Ko'ssen, Kassia))

Rosiegirl

With the Frost Fayre being announced, and the idea he'd had in his head for the past several months, Ko'ssen thought that attending the Fayre might be a good opportunity to see how another Weyr's WLM and Weyrleadership might feel about his idea. But before bringing it up to anyone else, Ko'ssen knew he needed to get the approval of Arolo's WW first.

So, about a sevenday before the Fayre Ko'ssen wrote out a note for WW Kassia requesting a meeting whenever she was available. By sending the note by runner, instead of the quicker and more immediate method of having Zerenth reach out to Foreth, Ko'ssen hoped it would be clear this was not any kind of emergency topic of conversation.

The note sent, Ko'ssen prepared some additional materials and made sure everything was ready to go for whenever the Weyrwoman would be available.

Re: I'm ordering you on a date...er rest ((WLM Ko'ssen, JM Hlr Vivaeldi))

Rosiegirl

Walking over to his desk and putting his folder of hides down on it, Ko'ssen turned to where Vivaeldi was sitting on the couch and at her reminder of the shortened name Ko'ssen gave her a rueful apologetic smile saying "My apologies, it's habit."

As she stood up and then clarified that there was no random whirling emergency, the worried look smoothed off his face and he waved that she was welcome to sit again. He'd half-turned, just about to offer some tea, a weak substitute for the highly unavailable klah, before she spoke again and he turned to look back at her with an attentive but polite expression. The poor work-a-holic WLM had no idea of the turmoil the beautiful woman might be feeling at those words, the meaning behind them escaping him. He could be really unobservant sometimes...

With her continuing explanation that she was just here to check on him, Ko'ssen couldn't help the embarrassed look on his face confirming her words that he'd not been taking time off. However, instead of flat-out saying that he'd not had time to take time for himself, Ko'ssen replied with "You do know me that well, always burning a candle it seems." After a pause to think *when* the last time he'd taken a break was, Ko'ssen then added a bit vaguely "I took some time off...a bit ago."

It was sometime...before a pair of twin golds hatched, maybe?....

Then, almost as if trying to avoid the possible 'Healer scolding' that he could foresee coming, Ko'ssen turned to his small stove and asked "Would you care for something to drink? Tea, or juice?"

His voice lacked enthusiasm about going where, according to His, it

A Gift Between Weyrwomen atten: Wygelle/Kassia

sailyn2

Kassia might not be able to go to the Frost Fayre, but that didn't mean she didn't want to send her usual gift to her friend and fellow Weyrwoman. She sent the runner she kept with her full to get a flit and wrapped up the bundle that had arrived at her door earlier that morning. After carefully securing the wrapping, she handed it to the flit and sent it along with a letter.

Along with the expensive piece of chocolate, the letter read:

Dearest Wygelle,

I am sorry that I am unable to make your Gather this time and enjoy a day wandering the stalls together. I hope you will enjoy the attached chocolate for some hot chocolate. I hope to see soon enough.

Kassia.

(Frost Fayre) Come Get Your Hot Chocolate

sailyn2

All the way from the south came an unusual caravan. Chocolate had only started to become well known in the south and southern areas of the north continent. This was the first time that the caravans were sent for a trial to the frozen Gather. One of the new offerings was a hot drink made of chocolate that had been discovered after a gift from the caravan's patron, Weyrwoman Kassia, to High Reaches' Weyrwoman, Wygelle. With some tweaking came an expensive, but warming drink for those willing to pay the steep price.

OOC: A small drink is a mark, but they're giving very small tastes for taste testing for those who want to come say hello.

[FROST FAYRE] Come one, come all! Brave the snows and the chill that nips your nose!

Nutmeg

Approximate IC Date: 8.28.12.10

IC: Although their Mid-Winter Gather was an event that was the highlight of the Turn, there had been serious consideration whether it should be cancelled altogether. And why wouldn’t they? It had been a Turn of tribulations to be sure. And underpinning all of that was the revelatory concern that it appeared that someone was out there targeting the Weyrs. After all of the talk at the Conclave that perhaps Arolos had been targeted with their imminent Hatching on the horizon, there had been serious discussion as to whether they should perhaps not bother this Turn at all. And in all honesty, the prospect of shutting the gates and barricading them from the inside had been far more tempting than either Wygelle or F’loran would ever have openly admitted to. But after some pause, there were indeed things that should be celebrated. The successful clutching and hatching of Arolos’ pair of golds for instance, Ormanth’s own recent and sizeable clutch, the successful - albeit still in progress - development of New Fort’s reclamation of Fort Weyr and its developing relationships with other Weyrs. Yes, there were things that needed celebrating. So with that, Mid-Winter Gather was announced as usual except with a noticeable difference. This Turn it would be larger and grander than before and as a special measure would be extended to last five whole days instead of the usual three.

And thus, the preparations for the “Frost Fayre” as it had been come to be dubbed had begun in full measure. Announcements were sent to every Hall and Hold within the High Reaches protectorate and formal invitations to the other Weyrs, inviting them to announce it to the Crafters and Traders within their regions as well. Everyone was welcome. For a full two sevenday before, High Reaches was a flurry of activity. The snows were falling and that meant the Weyrbowl needed to be cleared and prepared to accommodate their guests. Although discreet, security had been of the utmost priority as well although the presence of the Guards would be all but unnoticeable. Traders and Crafters had begun arriving from all across the continents complete with their own retinues and the hardy, wooden stalls had been assembled throughout the Weyrbowl. It was like a Hold within a Weyr as the careful organisation established a Feastery, a Crafter’s Corner,  a music hall where a large bandstand would accommodate lively music. Traders of just about every possible consideration had appeared selling a variety of items from practical to luxurious and by the time the Weyr gates opened on the first day, High Reaches was a sight to behold. Carefully strung glow jars adorned every nook and cranny as well as festooning the fronts of the stalls and in the dim, not quite light that the Weyr observed in the winter days, the twinkling lights were marvellous to see. Greenery that didn’t wilt and die in the winter had been collected and woven into garlands with brightly coloured berries that had been draped from the stalls. And then, there was the snow. High Reaches was no stranger to heavy snow and had cleared enough to ensure that the paths were clear but had left the several inches deep covering that had come down on top of the stalls. Combined with the frozen Weyr Lake that twinkled in the low winter sun, it looked like a scene out of a Harper’s envisioning of an extravagant Turn’s End celebration.

As the rich scents of spiced hot foods began to drift into the air, the Traders began their sales pitches and the sound of music was struck up from the bandstand where a Harper band started off immediately with their gayest of tunes. There was much to do and just as much to buy now that the Frost Fayre had begun!

OoC: Trader players, feel free to start your sales pitches! There are activities galore and all the hot winter food and drink that can be thought of. For many this might be the first time your Arolosian has seen snow, let alone realised just how cold it is! Don’t forget to wrap up warm and when they can’t feel the snowballs anymore, perhaps it’s time to find a hot drink or worse, perhaps they need to find a Healer. Perhaps their Northern friends find their plight amusing or maybe your character is determined to last as long as they can before they had to admit defeat.

Candidate Players - You are welcome to assume that they have been brought up for the full five days and have been set up in bunks in the Candidate Barracks at the Weyr. You may NPC a random HR Candidate to show them around if you like or to act as their guide at the Weyr.

Rider Players - Feel free to provide a ferry service to get the ball rolling. Due to their Fall commitments, Riders will have to assume that they have missed part of the Frost Fayre due to having to go back for drills and Fall. This doesn’t need to be played out but just keep in mind that Riders will  be hopping back and forth to some degree.

Traders/Crafters: Writers! You are welcome to create a suitably wintery NPC Trader stall. Hot food, luxury winter dress, fun winter games - the choice is yours. All we ask is that you try to keep it from being too outlandish or unlikely - unless of course your Southern Trader fancies trying their luck and seeing how long they can stand the cold! This does mean no firelizard or wher sellers due to their extreme rarity in the North.

As always if you're not sure, fire a question either via Discord or the Website.

The weyrling schedule might have been light today, being one of the day off days, but that didn't mean that Ko'ssen wasn't keeping himself elbow deep in something weyrling related. It seemed that there was *always* something that needed to be done, some issue that needed to be addressed, or some lesson to plan out.

Ko'ssen finished the meeting he was at...with relatively little issue, but on his way back to his office he decided to take a walk through the barracks just to check out how things were going with the youngest weyrlings. Stopping to have a chat with a couple of them, ones he knew had been struggling since Impression, Ko'ssen eventually arrived back at his office a bit later than when the meeting had actually ended.

Tucking the folder full of various hides he'd carried with him under his arm, he opened the door to his office with one hand while his other raised up to rub at his temple feeling the headache he'd been ignoring since the meeting beginning to raise it's head again.

Seeing the guest that he had waiting for him in his office, a look of surprise crossed his face as he halted for just a second in his movements. Even though there was a hint of worry on his face, he smiled at the talented healer as he stepped into his office more and closed the door saying "JM Vivaeldi, I'm sorry to keep you waiting. Did we have a meeting scheduled that slipped my mind? Or is there something going on with one of the weyrlings?"

She wasn't sure why she had taken today off.  Except that it was a day where she knew the weyrling schedule was light, and she could hopefully convince Ko'ssen to take the day off as well.  Or at least a few candlemarks.  SHe liked him in a way she hadn't liked anyone in a while.  She wasn't sure what it was, so much as just the feeling of possibilities.

So she waited in his office for him to finish whatever meeting he was at right now...
