"Yeah. I've talked to my sister some, about what it was like to Impress a dragon. It sounds the same, but with a dragon even more intense." He reached down and scratched Chato's head. Chato, in turn, wrapped a tendril around his finger. Tamalak basked in the love, then reluctantly removed his hand.

"You know that Kalain and I didn't plan on Impressing, don't you?" he blurted.

~~Chato 'tect Tam, Ziya 'tect 'gir, Sleek 'tect 'lain. All is well,~~ Chato said, then lifted a forefoot to clean between the toes. He couldn't help it, he loved to dig, but it made his feet dirty. So he had to clean them.

Re: Guess Where I Was Yesterday? (Attn: Dytha/Mendl)

Mendl wished she could give Dytha something to help her, but she knew there was only so much anyone could do. She was a couple Turns younger than her friend, so figured that anything that could be tried already had been tried. Though there were some of the medicinal plants from Old Sef...

"Fascinating. She gets really uncomfortable at first, and then pushes, just like a human would. But there are a bunch of them, and some are bigger than others so harder to push out. It didn't seem like it hurt...until the gold egg. But then, she was pretty exhausted by then."

"Rather you than me, I think!" Dytha said with a laugh. "I always find myself feeling I need eyes in the back of my head whenever we do anything with the ranking dragons. Maybe that's why I like eggs so much!" She shifted in her seat a little, clearly trying to make herself comfortable and her face grimaced slightly, the only response to the family stab of pain that cheerfully told Dytha she had managed to pop another lesion open. She was soaking her feet tonight if it killed her.

Mendl got a playful wrinkle of her nose in reply to her jest. "No, I didn't have visitors. R'bor is currently drowning in paperwork. Besides, I know how to deal with it. I don't like to see him worrying. That and I like swearing to myself when no one can hear me." The twinkle of good humour was tainted by the tiredness in her features, already it had been interfering with her sleep and reluctantly, she knew that soon she would have to speak to the Healers about getting her nightly dose of fellis tea.

"So go on then, what was it like to actually see a dragon laying?"

"Actually, no. I'm not going to go as far as to say Foreth likes me, but she seems to tolerate me better than any of the other apprentices." She shrugged. "Maybe she respects the fact that I'm not afraid of her? I don't know. All I know is, she asked for me!" Mendl did a little hop-skip at that.

"So, I got to watch. And wait. With the Weyrwoman. Which was kind of uncomfortable at first, but in the end, it really wasn't too bad." She felt bad for going on about her good luck, not dreaming that no one else would view it that way.

"I'm sorry to hear your feet were bad. Did you have any visitors?" She waggled her brows.

Dytha frowned a little in mild confusion as though a sentence had been skipped somewhere. "Having trouble? You mean with the clutching?" Something about Foreth made Dytha feel she needed eyes in the back of her head. Listening carefully to her friend, it took Dytha a moment to put it all together. "Wait, she asked for you to come to the Sands by name? Jumping flits, weren't you afraid you'd get eaten?!" Dytha chuckled with amusement but it was more influenced by the starstruck expression on her friend's face.

She beamed. Not only did the most powerful dragon in the Weyr like her, she asked for her. Specifically. And Mendl was having trouble just getting over that little fact.

"However I get the distinct impression that you're not actually remotely interested in the party." It wasn't an accusation, not the way the blue eyes twinkled. "And you're bouncing like you've been swimming in klah. You don't bounce. Ever."

Of course, she could completely appreciate that it was entirely possible that the girl was just over the moon with the news and for a moment, Dytha almost wished that she had had that experience herself but quickly shushed it. It was like wondering what it was like to feel the sun on your face for the first time after already having gotten used to it for turns.

Okay, it was. At least, the enclaves where they kept the sick dragons were. And the outside-facing rooms that dragons could come into, if need be. Inclement weather was a way of life and neither human nor draconic wanted to be looked at in the cold, or wind, or rain.

She bounced into the room and pulled up a seat. Since Mendle had never bounced, or chirped, in her life, anyone who knew her would know something was up. She grabbed a few small, empty jars and began filling them with powdered willowbark. "So," she said casually, "how was the party?"

That way she could keep the weight off her feet and still be doing something productive.

She was tucked in one of the small prep rooms off the Infirmary, carefully measuring out the amounts she needed and funnelling them carefully into the jars. Oddly, she found the astringent smell about her to be rather comforting, making a mental note to keep one of the jars of numbweed to one side to be signed out for herself. She wasn't quite at the point of needing her crutch, but the dull and constant ache in her legs was somewhat alleviated by not spending the day running around.

Granted, she wouldn't wish this on Foreth ever again, but, well, shards and shells!

She went into the bathing pool in the Barracks to wash off the dirt and fluids. She felt so grubby, but she didn't care.

The pool in the Candidate Barracks was always the perfect temperature, but when Mendl fell asleep and fell under the water, spluttering her way back to air, she decided it was time to sleep. Some candidates were quietly talking; some were still at the party. She just wanted to go to bed.

Kalain's surprise was overridden by a loud "oof" as he suddenly had two whers on his lap. "Off, get off!" He pushed at Sleak.

~Lain no fun~ Sleak said, sliding off with Kato and then starting to tussle with him on the floor next to the bed. Her tail whipped up and knocked over some things on the bedside table.

"Sleak, be careful!"

~See, Lain no fun~ she pretended to pout but was a bit more careful as they played.

Tamalak laughed, and scratched Chato's head. They walked through the barracks door. "Yes, Chato, sometimes I love you more."  He noticed Kalain and Sleek and plopped down next to him.

This Will Not Stand Att: T'ryn/M'ayen

Jerzy Tobin

Lennaye had always been quiet, in a shy sort of way, ever since she'd
first been introduced to T'ryn. They'd both warmed up to each other
fairly quickly, enough for T'ryn to know when she was acting out of
the ordinary. He'd kept his conversations casual, then, hoping that
it would draw her out, and maybe she'd tell him what was wrong. And
it worked, but what he heard had his head spinning. M'ayen was back,
teaching the candidates. And T'ryn - who had endured the man back at
Fort - didn't have to be a genius to know that Lennaye was just the
sort of candidate that M'ayen would have seized on as someone to make
an example of. She wasn't stupid, but she was a bit slow and a little
too deliberate at times, and if she knew something already, her mind
would wander. And she had admitted to just that. But the so called
punishment M'ayen had given her... He might not be able to do much
for the other candidates - he'd leave that to the Candidate Master,
who would surely get involved - but he could at least do what he could
to protect Lennaye from any further overzealous negative attention
from the 'new' ACM.

So, after doing his best to reassure the young girl and sending her on
her way after Myholth was finished with his washing, T'ryn went in
search of M'ayen. He figured the best place would be to start in the
ACM's office, so that was where he went.

Re: Guess Where I Was Yesterday? (Attn: Dytha/Mendl)

On Sun, Aug 2, 2020 at 1:10 AM Laurie <Laurie.Lynne@...> wrote:

You mean with the clutching?" She had known that Mendl had been assisting in the recovery of the gold's recent leg injury. Rather Mendl than her, to be honest. Something about Foreth made Dytha feel she needed eyes in the back of her head.

She turned in her seat to face the Candidate, saying nothing for a moment as she inspected the girl, taking in her entire demeanour.

It was hard not to feel the undertones of excitement that were trickling about the Weyr. Even Ponth was curious, demanding to know how ONE gold could have TWO gold eggs. It just didn't happen! She had started shift early that morning and with her feet playing up, had been set to dispensing assorted treatments and salves into bottles and jars.

The next morning, the first thing she did was seek out Dytha. Her friend had to be dying to know what Mendl experienced!

Re: I'm Watching You {Kaji, Tyne}

Nutmeg

The response intrigued her. It was different but that didn't mean it was unwelcome. Normally the firelizards were baffled by her, but she was rarely met with abject hostility. Still watching the flit, Tyne cocked her head as she watched it carefully. Carefully, she filled the mental space between them with a sensation similar to the one Bobbin used to comfort the faire. This new one was welcome in this space, safe, but welcome most of all.

The colour intrigued her. She had never heard of it being possible for such an extreme discolouration but, in the realm of possibility, she supposed it was possible. Amazing what factors could have an impact on these things.

The sooner the doors were finally installed, the better things would be for everyone. The firelizards didn't care, they adored having a mountain of rags to run away with and rip to pieces in a corner somewhere. That she would need to sweep. Again. Stooping to pick up the bucket in order to toss the dirty water down the steps, Tyne paused when she felt the familiar prickle of, well, someone unfamiliar. She knew all of the faces that popped in regularly, her own fair notwithstanding. No, she wasn't sure she had met this one.

Feeling the mental stand, she tugged it gently in greeting, the same
way she had felt the firelizards do when they were introducing
themselves. It was very much an empathic nudge, edged with the
cautious sensations of curious interest. Looking about her, it always
reminded her of the child's game "hot and cold". It took a little
longer than expected, not expecting to see the strangely coloured
firelizard tucked away. "Hello," she said, fixing the white firelizard
with her dark eyes.<<

Kawaii may have been the one to make a point to find her, but that
didn't mean he /actually/ welcomed her attention. He didn't flench
from her, but he clearly didn't return the greeting either instead
offering a light hiss. She hadn't come closer so it wasn't his
standard full hiss, but still it was very obviously a hiss. No his pet
was plenty to talk to he wasn't sure about talking to /her/ even if
the others liked her. He was stopped from farther contemplation when
Kaji moved and he turned his attention to his pet ~~Where going. What
looking.~~ He questioned watching his pet search the area around him.

The return of asking about his location cause him to look back at the
woman and pass Kaji an image of Tyne. He could see Kaji turn his
direction, but as long as his pet stayed there the little white flit
was going to stay here and watch her. He might in no way be sure of
her, but he still wanted to see her better. Kaji would just have to
come up here once he was done.

ooc: figure have Kaji come in next reply, but figured poor Tyne could
try to socalize with mr. anti social a bit first heh

Re: Would you like some help? {Cl'rin, Tyne}

Nutmeg

Humming happily to herself, Tyne swept the large brush across the floor. The sensation and sound was deeply soothing. That and it was rewarding in itself to see the dust and debris pulled up and the floor left clear in its wake. Instant progress. Well, until the next time she had to sweep it again. The faire was "helping" having been put to task picking up and removing small items of debris such as small rocks, bits of wood and the like and were cheerfully swooping back and forth across the space. Hopefully in the next several days, her doors would be arriving, proper ones, made out of a sturdy wood and made to measure. They would definitely add a good touch.

Her back was to Cl'rin as he spoke and she didn't look up immediately. "Yes?" Tyne called over her shoulder, stooping with a small pan to sweep the small pile of dust and rubble into it.

On Fri, Jul 31, 2020 at 1:05 AM Kouga <hanjikouga@...> wrote:

not for her he still didn't know if he would have been in a good frame
of mind when Dollanth had found him that day on the sands.

Still he /had/ talked to her a few times and such you couldn't spend
time in training for that long in not. The problem though to him was
that he had never bothered to keep up with her after. While it might
seem silly to most to wait till now it seemed like a good idea to the
ACM to do it later rather than never, he just hoped he didn't step
wrong honestly.

He knew where her clinic was and waited till one of his half days
before gathering Gem and Fuzzy and making his way there. Gem was
content on his shoulder, but Fuzzy was wrapped around his arm
chittering and chirping happily as he ran the fingers of his other
hand along her back.

He paused at the entrance glancing around to see the work that had
been done so far before finally speaking "Hello? Tyne?" he called.
