"Hey, hey, Can you speak?" T'rif asked. Where were the healers? He looked around, but help hadn't arrived yet. "Try not to move too much until we can get a healer to look at you."

Kashara shook her head. "Not necessarily. He's there to help you with minor issues and can help you before something so big that you need to stop Standing."

Dyrina turned a bright, inquiring gaze on her younger sister. "Yes, I did hear that." In fact, Dyrina would be surprised had anyone in the Weyr not heard, dragons and weyrfolk being the true gossips at heart that they were. She chuckled. "Upset more than one betting pool from what I've heard."

She arced an inquisitive eyebrow. She had some ideas on where this conversation might be going, but it was better to allow the younger woman to get there at her own pace. "Why do you ask?"

"I didn't think dragons would do that." Garatt wasn't a weyrbred kid. He was a Hold child and what he was told he believed, and right now he was deeply shocked. "I thought they were all good and-- and friendly!"

"But that gold just-- I mean--" Garatt swallowed and turned his head despite himself to glance back to the slumped Candidate. Only one of the ACMs seemed to be doing anything at all to help him. "And-- and they don't even care!"  he added in a quiet hiss, vaguely aware that might not be a popular thing to be upset about just now. Almost that was worse, that someone could get hurt that badly and mostly people would react by being angry at them.

Namieh did little more than groan piteously when spoken to, disoriented and in a great deal of pain. Her crumpled form shuddered as she tried to move and discovered *everything* hurt, but she was undoubtedly alive. The feminine note to her quiet, terrified sobs was unmissable.

"I'm sorry," Yiyu apologized, one hand on Mertrith. She glanced at the green, her expression reproachful.

"I promise you, there is no treasure out there."

The little green's tone was so crestfallen that Yiyu had to stroke her headknobs in apology.

"No." The word was heavy with empathy and command, will oozing out of it so much that Tototh actually sat down in the water with a cheep. "You'll listen now just like you'll listen later. Look at Mandath- do you see him charging in and disobeying?"

{{No,}} Tototh agreed with a glance towards his favorite brother. {{He's trying to organize everyone into ranks to go into the water. Should we join?}}

"So I see that this wasn't all in his imagination," he said, eyes scanning the room as he stepped over to Nyzara's side. "And we are right on time? She doesn't mind us being here?"

C'lynx rather thought she wanted them there and that she had called out to Brahn by the way he was acting but couldn't be entirely sure.

"My type?" S'nen raised a brow, at the fresh insult, and in the back of his head, Sekerth grumbled. ((You should sit on him.)) the brown huffed. ((We rank him, even more so, now.))

"No. Not yet." S'nen answered, absently, some part of him registering the other's departure, but most of his attention on his dratted brown. --Now, where the shards are you, you lump?--

((Over here.)) Sekerth responded, sent a brief image of the lakeside, before the brown snorted and turned his attention once more to the green and her rider. ((I am certain Mine will tend my hide with all due dignity. I am a dragon of rank.)) He was rather proud of his uniformity. ((He comes now.))

He left off grooming Lileth, stretched his neck out a little toward S'nen. ((Mine! See this beautiful green I have found!))

S'nen looked up. "Oh you have *got* to be sharding joking."

I'm Had Enough JP Kassia/Nayari

sailyn2

IC Date Reference: Set immediately after “But I’m Right!”

After talking to R’tal, Kassia knew what she had to do. She’d calmed a bit as she’d talked to the Weyrleader, but her fury came back as she had to trudge over to the Candidate Barracks yet again. She couldn’t risk upsetting Foreth by bringing in someone else to the Caverns, so the Barracks it was. The walk wouldn’t have been a pleasant one on a normal day, but being pregnant made the trek worse. Never mind her strange behavior.

Kassia was huffing and puffing by the time she reached the Barracks and headed straight for Narayi’s office. She didn’t bother to knock. If there was anyone else in there, they’d have to wait. Weyrwoman’s prerogative.

Finally a minute to herself. Maybe some lunch. With a sigh, Nayari had sent Vecna to the kitchens to have a small basket sent to her. Oh, and get some more klah going. Then she could… but whatever she might have had planned came to an abrupt halt as Kassia burst into the office. Immediately her stomach turned to ice. Shells, what now?

“Weyrwoman…” she said, in polite but tentative greeting.

Kassia wasted no time. “I’m closing the Caverns,” she said. Next to her Brogan leaned into her to try to calm her.

Nayari balked. “I’m sorry? You’re what?” It was clear that she was waiting to be told that something else had happened and she stared at the Weyrwoman in confoundment.

“I’m closing the Caverns,” she repeated. “I promised the girls who passed that they could see the eggs and I’ll allow that with extra security, but I will not do further meetings so whoever I didn’t get to is out of luck. After that no one outside approved people working for me will be allowed into the Caverns until the Hatching.”

“What’s prompted this so suddenly?” Nayari asked, still trying to wrap her head around what in the world was happening. Yes, the woman had obviously been angry when she had last left her, but her punishment had been issued and it would be carried out. So where had this come from?

“I’ve had more time to think.” Kassia started pacing and she shook her head. “The attempted attack on me, the fecking idiots that went on the Sands, the recent lack of...of respect for me. I’m sick of it. I don’t want to risk danger to the eggs. I don’t want to risk that Foreth will eat someone. I’m stressed. I have the gold eggs to worry about. I’m pregnant. I don’t need this fecking stress.”

Nayari’s brow furrowed in concern. “Forgive me Weyrwoman, but I fail to see what the recent attempted attack has to do with this equation here. As far as I can see, that has nothing to do with the actions of three irresponsible Candidates, all of whom will be suitably disciplined for their behaviour - regardless of any sustained injuries. I can appreciate the concern you have, but that seems a rather obscure connection to add into things here. If it’s more discipline over the Candidates, I can assure you, I already have every intention of speaking to them en masse in the immediate future and making it perfectly clear that unacceptable behaviour between now and the Hatching is going to see them on an immediate final warning for expulsion. If you’re concerned about individuals going into the Caverns alone, then I was already considering numbered groups escorted by an Assistant Candidatemaster for no longer than a quarter candlemark at a time in order to relieve the stress of being stared at on Foreth.” Nayari had no idea if she was going to have any shot at changing Kassia’s mind, but she was shelled if she wasn’t at least going to try. Already she could taste the bitter taste of anger in the back of her throat. What were the Candidates thinking of late?

Kassia’s lips pulled back and she all but snarled, “My point is that I want the Caverns protected, whether it’s from an attack or stupid Candidates. My other point is that these Candidates need to learn their place in this Weyr. Seeing the eggs is a privilege and it can and will be taken away from them.”

If she looked carefully, it almost felt a little as though she could see her previous words disappearing over the Weyrwoman’s head. Whatever was going on with her, the twitchy pacing, the erratic thinking, it was clear that the Weyrwoman was on knee-jerk reaction right now. Nayari’s expression was neutral as she regarded Kassia. “Very well. I will inform the Candidates the first thing in the morning.” Inwardly, she was not entirely fond of this emphasis of her charges “learning their place”. Shells, that was a dangerous mindset to be getting into and then some.

“I’m sick of the disrespect,” Kassia said. “The next Candidate who doesn’t get that message will find themselves looking for a new home.”

This was a can of worms that Nayari did not want to be opening. And she was getting the distinct impression that when the Weyrwoman was like this, there would be no reasoning with her. No matter how calmly it might be presented. “I will make that abundantly clear to them,” she said carefully.

Kassia nodded. “Thank you.” The words were still angry, but she did mean it. Then she turned and blew out of the office with as much anger and energy as she’d come into the office.

As the door clattered closed behind Kassia’s veritable whirlwind, Nayari leaned back in her seat with a sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose. Now that the wher had left, Vecna reappeared with a chilly blast from Between, settling herself in front of her Mistress with an inquisitive chirrup. The Candidatemaster could feel an unpleasant blend of anger and embarrassment coiling in the pit of her stomach. In mere days, the Candidates she took so much pride in had let themselves and her down in phenomenal fashion. And whether she liked it or not, they were about to hear some very unpleasant home truths. Things were about to change. And not potentially for the well-liked.

Garatt hadn't wanted to look at the kid who'd been knocked across the Cavern but it was as though his eyes couldn't help themselves. His eyes sought out the crumpled heap of what had been a Candidate and he swallowed, turning his head away and letting Lerian lead him out, trying not to be sick again.

"Do you think he's.. dead?" he asked in a whisper.

He relaxed a bit at the other fellows smile. Ronhim still had a bit of social uncertainty but the people at the Weyr were sure friendly and that helped to bring him out of his shell a bit. It felt good to be included in things, like simple conversations. That was something he hadn't experienced much back at the Hold.

"A big blue...or a brown....that would be grand," he said, with a far away, dreamy tone to his voice. "I don't think I would be fit for a bronze...and not sure a green would want to carry my over sized self around."

The last part was said with a chuckle. Though he would adore a green as much as he would any dragon. The complications of having a green though were there in the back of his mind as well. Ronhim had never looked at another man with anything like desire but a dragons needs had to come first he supposed.

"The pebbly one?" he asked, craning his neck to get a look at it. "It's nice enough. Not sure what will come out of it. What about the one with the skull face? What do you think is in there?"

All the while he talked Ronhim tried to remember who this other fellow was and his name. They had been in some classes or some such hadn't they?

Asheran caught himself grinning at the other beefy candidate, in a way he hoped was reassuring and inclusive and not intimidating, and glanced back out across the hatching sands again from his perch, eyes trailing to the egg in question.

"At first I thought that's definitely a bronze in there, but... Now I'm wondering if it isn't a big blue. That's happened a couple times. There's an egg everybody bets on being bronze, and out comes this big blue. But who really knows, right?"

He lifted his arm, gesturing toward another egg briefly, blithely unaware that in no time at all he'd be staring at its twin writ in real time across the wall.

"I kinda like that one. Don't care what comes out of it, if it's for me or if it isn't, but I like the look of it."

It, of course, looked like a raw, open wound.

As if realizing this was a weird egg to like the look of, Asheran added belatedly, "And the pebbly one, too. I'd put marks on a brown in there."

He couldn't help but chuckle a bit.
