Isn't Arolos meant to mean surprise? {Jaseto, any}

Kouga

It had now been a couple of sevendays now since Foreth had laid her
eggs and Jaseto would admit she was looking forward to being out of
here. She understood that new dragon eggs were exciting, but well this
seemed like a lot. Though she did understand that it seemed to be
coming from the fact that there were two gold eggs, but apparently
this wasn't the first time there had been two and wasn't this Arolos?

The trader couldn't understand all the fuss. Ok so there was two gold
eggs, but it /had/ happened before and with this being Arolos weird
things were normal. Weren't they?

It was with that on her mind that she made her way to the Dining
Caverns at supper that day grabbing food and settling at a table next
to a couple of people she didn't know. It still felt odd eating in
places like this for so long, but another month and she should be able
to go if all went well with Heart. In the mean time she had to know
"Why is there so much excitement over the eggs?" she questioned her
company "There was another time when there were two golds, wasn't
there?"

Re: It seemed like a good idea at the time! {Petiner, Kassia}

"It's always an adjustment to have another being inside your head," Kassia said. "They have different feelings and ideas so that they become not only theirs, but yours as well. It can take a while to get used to that. Most people love having another part of them, but it can be hard still. Working on the bond can help." <<
"It makes me feel wrong." Petiner confided frowning "I have been
working with the other guards and we go out to the Hall when I have
days off and if we have large bits of free time in a day, but it still
feels like something that shouldn't be there." He had been told that
it should get better and he was careful not to actually reject the
feeling as he knew it was the bond and he didn't want to reject the
little blue, just for his head to feel less well itchy maybe from the
bond.

The little blue looked up at his human offering a confused and happy
sort of noise, like he wasn't sure which was the proper reply right
now. He knew his Pet didn't know what to do with him, but he also knew
that his guard was trying the other twolegs at the place with all the
whers said so. He wasn't so sure what was hard about it himself. This
was his Pet, he loved his guard and wanted Petiner to know that so he
showed him, lots. He found lots of things fun so he shared them with
his human. He liked sharing, but for some reason most of it his Pet
just didn't understand. He burrowed into his person's leg with a happy
rumble and a bright ((LilWher Pet!)) to all present.

"Hey, Lil' Sis." Dyrina greeted Dyarla cheerful, as she came up beside the younger woman. She seems to have come straight from wing drills, and had her her flight jacket slung casually over one arm, "I got your message. How's candidate life treating you these days? Heard we had quite the clutch on the sands." <<
"Well with a clutch now they'll probably drag me back in to lessons
soon." Dyarla offered not sure how she thought about that part of the
whole thing. She knew the lessons were important and it was why she
learned them, but it was slightly frustrating to have the refreshers
like they had to have because it dragged her away from craft time.
Sure she would prefer being a rider, but well while she was there she
was trying to make the most of it, which she supposed was really her
complaint. "It's a good clutch. I think they will be opening the sands
to everyone soon, but they let most of us in. All the boys got to go
unless they did something stupid. The girls got to go after a talk
with the Weyrwoman, at least some of them did I think some were not
able to go from what I heard." she explained pausing a brief moment
before brining up what she really wanted, well not that she didn't
like talking to her sister just that well this was kind of important
to her "You heard there are two gold eggs?"

Jerwain nodded "Yes sir. We were from the north originally, but came
down south during the dragon plague. We came down here to try and get
away from the plague as much as we could and to try and check on my

"Yes, made sure to speak with her and the Tanners. I've been a

barracks several turns back after I got all the lessons I needed." he
assure the man.

'Uh, not.. not quite," she admitted with some hesitancy. It was hard not to notice the way he stared, and though heat faintly colored her pale face, she took his intent gaze without flattery. The purpose of this meeting was for him to scrutinize her adequacy as an assistant, after all. Calyse swallowed, stalling briefly to weigh her answer before speaking.

"Every girl grows up o-on Harper tales wanting to become a goldrider, right? ...But when you grow up in a Weyr,  you see first hand how hard it is. I want to be prepared for whatever happens. If that means Impressing a gold, so be it, but if not, I can apply the skills I learn under you in.. in my craft."  Shells, that sounded worse aloud than in her head, but she lifted her chin rather than admit to the lewd thoughts that flashed through her mind. *Phrasing, Calyse!* Her eyes met the intensity of his own absent any hint of meekness.

"Oh, yes. Um, Benden is where I was born. I've been in Arolos for over a month now, but I don't like to waste time. Are you originally from here, Wingleader?" She asked, unable to fight her curiosity.

"Bronze," he said immediately, without a trace of the superstitious self-consciousness that he sometimes noticed candidates cultivated when asked that question. Oh, you know, as long as it's healthy... No. He wanted bronze - craved it as the culmination to his long candidacy, because the alternative was... failure. "I understand I won't actually be leading anyone - it'll be drudge work, but I'm counting on being able to observe to learn. I want to have a leg up on everyone else when the time comes."

S'nen bristled right back, the ire and the insult to his rank (earned rank, shardit!) making the brownrider puff up, take a half-step forward. "You insolent-" he began, before visibly checking himself. No. He could do nothing to jeopardize his rank- it was too new, and he was still somewhat unknown at the Weyr. Still, his eyes narrowed. "Are you prone to getting into disagreements with your leaders?" he asked instead, his tone utterly mild.

No wonder the man had been sent here, if that was the case.

((I can see that; you are the most beautiful of greens.)) Sekerth promised, even though the brown's memory was... limited. ((You will be glorious when you fly, and only the strongest shall hope to catch you.)) A brief pause, as he nuzzled her. ((I am as fast as I can be.)) was added, before privately adding, ((Mine! You may approach now!))

Re: She's Always Like This ((Attn: S'nen, F'nel))

F'nel stared up at the brownrider with eyes slowly widening in a new wave of anger. If there was one surefire way to set his fuse alight, it was to make disparaging comments about his dragon. He climbed quickly to his feet, brushing off his trousers with more force than necessary. "Oh, you think you're so fecking special?" F'nel spat venomously. "Big Wingsecond knots make you think you can just step on everyone beneath you? Shoulda known this place would be no different. You're all the sharding same." S'nen had found a sore spot.

Lileth let loose a delighted sigh, settling in against the larger male. ((I'm glad you agree. Smart and handsome makes for a good combination in a chaser for when I rise. Are you fast, too? I am not only beautiful, but swift like the wind.)) She spoke matter-of-fact as if she were discussing the weather rather than waxing on vainly. Her rider's frustration made her eyes whirl a green shade as she looked in their direction. ((Uh oh... Mine is mad. Again. He is so tiresome lately.)) Lileth said mildly as if she were not the cause.

Re: She's Always Like This ((Attn: S'nen, F'nel))

If Lileth could have rolled her faceted eyes, she would have. He wasn't the most eloquent of browns, but he had a nice look about him, a muscular power that intrigued the haughty green. ((Of course not *now*,)) she huffed in mild annoyance. ((You are very busy right now. There's an itchy spot right between my wings and I'm certain your sharp teeth would do nicely.)) Lileth shifted her weight so that her spine was angled toward him, head swiveled so that she could address him with a mournful trilled melody.

{{That's it, I'm done being ignored, Lil.}} F'nel hissed, the frustration written on his face as he spun on his heel. Muttering about the stubbornness of proddy dragons, the greenrider was entirely in his own world when he collided with another man exiting the tunnels. Stumbling backwards, he failed to keep from tripping over his own feet and landed on his rear with a curse.

"Shells! Watch it!" He snapped, twisting toward the other rider full of misplaced fury.

Re: Willing Assistant Attn Ravelan

Jerzy Tobin

So, Garatt got used to arriving and being sent to whichever Harper looked most in need of a willing assistant that day. He knocked politely and then stuck his head around the door without waiting for a response.

"'Excuse me. They said to ask if you needed help."
Ravelan looked up from the papers he had been in the process of
sorting, blinking owlishly at the candidate who had appeared in the
doorway. Not someone for him to tutor, surely. Ravelan had little
to no patience for actual teaching, something that was well known.
But no, someone would have mentioned something if he'd suddenly been
assigned a student. Which meant that this was a set of spare hands
for the next three hours.

Well, that was no bad thing. Since he had finished sorting this lot
of papers, his next task had been to clean and polish all of the drums
in the drum heights. A very tedious task, but one that was necessary
to maintaining the instruments. And just the sort of thing to set a
would-be apprentice to.

"Right then. You name, please?" Ravelan asked, rising from his seat.

Re: First Chance to See the Shiny atten: Andreya/Trifali/Shalia/Kashara/Rassia

When Kassia remained silent for a while, Andreya’s posture didn’t waver or wilt as she waited for Kassia’s response, watching her cousin consider what she’d said. Andreya had made a decision, stated her reasoning in an appropriately polite and respectful voice even as she’d declined the invitation, and intended to stand firm with that decision.

At Kassia’s nod, Andreya didn’t relax her posture or otherwise react, not even at seeing the unhappy expression that twisted her cousin’s face. She didn’t react as all the Weyrwoman’s words hit her…

Didn’t react to the disappointment of not being able to be Kassia’s assistant for a bit longer until she’d seen the eggs with the other gold-hopefuls, having already considered this and been prepared for it.

Didn’t react to the Weyrwoman twisting her own words about ‘influencing the eggs’ not being certain to be possible, when there had already been multiple statements made about seeing and touching eggs having an impact on impression (several even made by the Weyrwoman herself over the last few days, even at the beginning of this chat!).

Didn’t react to the much harsher disappointment of the *punishment* for declining the invitation now by having to wait not just until the other gold-hopeful girls got to see the eggs, but having to wait even *longer* until the eggs were able to be viewed by all the girls!

As Kassia finished, Andreya was standing just as poised and confident as she had before the Weyrwoman spoke, not giving any sign of the emotions her cousin’s words had caused. Nodding her head a bit, Andreya replied with “I understand, Ma’am, and I’ll wait until it’s all the girls seeing the eggs, not just the gold-hopefuls. I do apologize for not being able to return to assisting you sooner, I was looking forward to being able to return to those duties again even with as limited time as candidates would have, but if the position is still available once I have seen the eggs I would, of course, be glad to resume those duties. Until then, I hope Trifali is able to help you more, in my absence.”

Taking a breath, Andreya finished with a deeper, more respectful, nod to Kassia saying “Again, I do appreciate the opportunity, Ma’am. And, if you wouldn’t mind since I won’t be able to, would you please convey my most heartfelt congratulations to Foreth on her beautiful clutch and her 2 stunning golden daughters, as well as my deepest regret that I’m unable to see her eggs currently.”

Kassia was quiet for a long time as she digested the words. Finally she nodded. "I understand your concerns," she said, her expression twisting to show that she wasn't necessarily happy with them. Since you'd rather wait, then I wouldn't want you to risk...influencing the choice, if it's possible. So you don't have to worry about seeing them with the other girls either. You can wait until the Sands are opened to all in a couple of weeks. Understand?"

Ysolde had been half way up the stairs to the second floor of the Barracks when T'rifoshe caught up with her. Ah, there it was. Before she turned to face the man, she took a second to straighten her face. "If it is going to be just yourself and the Weyrwoman present, then I must insist on a neutral representative also being present. Being related to one another means that opinions will be biased."

Her tone was calm and couldn't remotely be called disrespectful. But there wasn't a chance she was going behind the closed door of an office to stand in front of two people when one would clearly be in favour of her "accuser". No, she wanted her own witness, thank you very much. Someone who didn't have a conflict of interest.

T'rifoshe nodded and then followed the Candidate. "Ysolde," he called. "To my office. Now."
