Re: She's Always Like This ((Attn: S'nen, F'nel))

Lileth's faceted eyes took on a greenish tinge of subtle annoyance, but the brown's understated response was satisfactory enough that she daintily deposited herself at his side. ((This seems like the best place for sunning, you have good taste.)) She trilled a friendly note, shifting on the rocks to spread her wings out for maximum warmth. ((I am newly arrived, you see. I am ever-so lost when I look around the weyrbowl and don't know all the best spots yet. I could use a dashing brown to show me around. Do you know one?)) Lileth cocked her head to one side.

{{Where are you?}} F'nel asked her, receiving only a flashed image of the lake and the distinct impression his dragon was busy. It made F'nel laugh, and he squinted in the effort of locating her pale green hide. {{You can't hide forever, we have oiling to do.}}

((You haven't been summoned yet! Just wait!)) She hissed at her rider.

Sekerth, for once not running through drills, or otherwise supervising (or pretending to supervise) other dragons, had sprawled out on just the right patch of warmth, a craggy rock near the Lake, when he registered that a green was addressing him. The brown's head lifted, eyes whirling slightly faster in startlement, before he rumbled and shifted over slightly- a wordless invitation. ((Hello, Lileth.)) he greeted, politely. ((I am Sekerth.))

Being a Wingsecond to the Skystrikers was a lot of work, and led to even less free time, but S'nen had accepted that when he'd volunteered for a ranking position. Today, however- today was simply too hot to spend another moment indoors, and so, with a sigh, he set aside his work for now and rose, stretched, before striding out to go find wherever that brown lump had decided to settle.

((Mine, there is a pretty green flirting with me.)) "So flirt back." S'nen just responded.

Re: (RAIN) Last Minute Cancellations (T'eko)

As much as hed been looking forward to do his job, there was some relief for any dragonrider to see their ancient enemy destroyed like that. He reached his hand up to pat Brocarth's now-soaked hide before mounting his friend once R'tal gave the go-ahead to disperse. He passed that on to the wing and let Brocarth launch up to his weyr.

{{What shall we do now?}} the brown asked him.

{{Not sure, but maybe I'll curl up with the little guys, Note, and you with some klah and finger foods,}} T'eko replied with a thoughtful tone. {{It'd be great if I still had someone to cuddle up with. Days like this I almost miss T'shai.}}

{{Were you happy with them, though?}} Brocarth asked as he landed on his ledge and knelt to let his friend off and shook himself off before heading into his weyr.

"Eh, I dunno. Heya there, Note!" T'eko greeted the chirping wher and rubbed his hands over the blue's head and neck. "Keep the place safe while I was out?"

{Note keep safe, no sound alarm!} Note replied positively and retrieved a treat in response. Ryu and Linnie were absent which concerned T'eko until they suddenly appeared soaking wet and chittering in frustration.

"Hey guys! Where ya been? I see you've got caught in the rain. Here, hang on." Teko set up a few furs arranged like nests for the 'lizards and another for Note and watched as the mood changed. The blue and green firelizards ceased their fussing and changed to happy chatter between themselves with a casual "thank you" thought sent to their human. Note settled onto his fur and procceeded to toss about until he was comfortable and settled with a sigh. T'eko chuckled as he stripped and laid out his leathers to dry.

"I gotta polish those later," he murmrued to himself. "Can't have them cracking when I'm on duty. Now that everyone's happy, time for me to settle down and have T'eko time." Grinning at his alleged funniness, he went on to make his klah and ordered fingerfoods from the kitchens before settling next to his fireplace. "This life is... so great. I have my best friend in the whole world, two amazing firelizards, and a good wher. And I'm a wingsecond, too... Not just to anyone, either, but to my actual hero, R'tal! I wish the man had more time for me, but he's Weyrleader again and so busy. What would I ask, anyway? Him to tell me stories? .... Honestly, probably. I would love to hear his stories of when he was younger, of mistakes and triumphs he made to get where he is."

{{Talith's is pretty amazing,}} Brocarth agreed. {{I look up to Talith myself. He's a brown who leads and has fathered gold dragons. We aren't supposed to be able to do that, yet here he is. I aspire to do that one day.}}

"Wait, you want to catch a gold?" T'eko asked in some surprise. Sure his brown chased, but T'eko didn't realize that he really wanted to catch one.

{{I do! I will never catch Foreth of course, but there's Nykantiath now as well as Razelth. I could catch either of them if I tried hard enough. I want to know more about Nykantiath but she has so much bronze attention I don't know if she'd ever see little old me.}}

"Now, Brocarth, don't you talk down about yourself like that," T'eko scolded softly. "You're an amazing brown who deserves attention as much as any bronze. Greens love you because you're so kind to them when you catch them, and so would a gold. I'd be so faranth-damned proud of that clutch! If the goldrider agreed to it, I'd hire a harper to paint it."

The praise had Brocarth flattered and feeling much better. His eyes whirled a happy green as he settled more onto his wallow with a huff. {{I'd be so happy and would bring her so much fresh food. I'd offer to groom her if she let me, getting that spot in between the wings and maybe having her thank me if I'm lucky.}}

"That's my boy," T'eko praised softly as the food came. He retrieved it and started eating, noting they'd sent juice as well. "I love our staff here. Don't worry, Brocarth. You'll find a partner one day just as I will."

This unfortunate circumstance had the detrimental side effect of turning him anti-social in the whercraft. Maybe it was the eggs on the Sands. Ever Hatching, she remembered hers, where the earth moved, and all the dragons hatched at once. It was scary, but it was wonderful, with Elioth becoming hers. And maybe that was the thing: she wanted others to feel about their dragons the way she felt about hers.

{{Awww. You really like me,}} Elioth said, humor threaded through the words.

[[Well, yeah. It's been too quiet lately. I want to do something.]]

{{There are eggs on the Sands, and a Weyrlingmaster in the dining hall.}}

[[I'm too young. They won't take me seriously.]]

{{We've been together five Turns. Plenty of time to learn how to teach someone. Go. Zelenth's is in there.}}

That was an idea. While she'd rather talk to an assistant, talking to Ko'ssen would speed things up--for good or bad.

He was at an out of the way table. Perfect. She waited until he was almost done before walking up to him.

"Weyrlingmaster?" she said. Not exactly shyly; she wasn't a shy person. But with the right amount of respect.

He'd had breakfast, but he'd been so focused he'd worked through lunch and now it was toward the end of dinner time when he unburied himself from his work enough to focus on the world around him. He slowly stretched in his chair, back popping as tense muscles and joints were pulled, and let out a yawn so wide his jaw sounded like it creaked. As he straightened up and let out a sigh of relief at the stretch, Ko'ssen decided he needed to follow his stomach's instructions and go and get some dinner. Then he'd be able to keep working.

So, with the decision made, Ko'ssen quickly made his way out of the barracks and over to the dining hall. He headed through the large cavernous room to the buffet tables set up for dinner and, having skipped lunch, filled a plate with not just some meatrolls but a thick slab of roast herdbeast, some steamed mixed veggies, and a couple of fresh bread rolls. He'd even scooped into a bowl some thick meat and tuber stew. With that, he left the buffet table and headed to one of the small, back out of the way tables. On his way to the table he'd spotted, he asked one of the passing kitchen staff if they could please bring a small pitcher of chilled juice and a mug to his table, which earned the WLM a brisk nod.

With that, Ko'ssen reached the table and before he could even tuck into his food the juice he'd asked for had arrived, which he thanked them for. Pouring himself a mug from the provided pitcher, he took a sip of the cold juice, letting it refresh him a bit in the heat, before setting the plate to one side and beginning on his bowl of stew.

"So, I got to watch. And wait. With the Weyrwoman. Which was kind of uncomfortable at first, but in the end, it really wasn't too bad." She felt bad for going on about her good luck, not dreaming that no one else would view it that way.

Something about Foreth made Dytha feel she needed eyes in the back of her head. Listening carefully to her friend, it took Dytha a moment to put it all together. "Wait, she asked for you to come to the Sands by name? Jumping flits, weren't you afraid you'd get eaten?!" Okay, it was. At least, the enclaves where they kept the sick dragons were. And the outside-facing rooms that dragons could come into, if need be. Inclement weather was a way of life and neither human nor draconic wanted to be looked at in the cold, or wind, or rain.

She bounced into the room and pulled up a seat. Since Mendle had never bounced, or chirped, in her life, anyone who knew her would know something was up. She grabbed a few small, empty jars and began filling them with powdered willowbark. "So," she said casually, "how was the party?"

(RAIN) Last Minute Cancellations ATTN ALL

Laura Walker

It was always worse when the heat was higher on a Fall day. Between might provide a few moments' cool respite, and the air might be cooler higher in the sky but that didn't compensate for the amount of heavy Fall gear which needs must be piled on whilst still on the ground. And by mid-morning that day it was already miserably hot and humid, the air thick with water and unpleasant.

It was worse by lunch, the sky turning an unappetising mustard colour. By then though those who had lived in the South for any amount of time were starting to murmur. It didn't take too many turns to recognise the feel of a storm in the air -- and of course, a storm meant no Fall fighting that day at all.

A few spots of rain an hour before Fall brought false hope, stopping almost as soon as they started. The dark clouds were massing across the skies certainly, in fact it was starting to look more like late evening than mid-afternoon, but that didn't mean the rain would come in time for this Fall.

And then, thirty minutes before Fall, just as Wingleaders were starting to line up their riders for inspection it came. First the lightning, arcing across the sky, sharp and vivid against the dark clouds and followed almost immediately by a loud growl of thunder that made the ground under their feet vibrate.

A few riders - mostly the younger ones - risked stern looks from their Wingleaders by cheering at that point.

And came the the rain - no slow starting scattered droplets now but veritable sheets of rain, as though someone had emptied an enormous bucket from on high. Leather Fall gear provided some protection but any rider who had hoped to leave their jacket off a while longer was very quickly soaked.

It was only for the Wingleaders to confirm officially what everyone already knew. There would be no Fall fighting today; the rain would kill any Thread before it got close to the ground. Unexpectedly, the riders might have an afternoon free.

(And only those who knew how quickly an Arolos rainy season could turn might predict that in time the rain too might cause as many problems as it resolved).

Month 10 Intro and OOC ((Attn: All FF Weyrlings))

Rosiegirl

OOC: Set date of 28.8.1

Ko’ssen was out in the weyrlings’ training area of the weyrbowl, standing in front of the FF weyrling class as they all gathered for their lesson. Once everyone was there, and making sure to raise his voice to be heard by all the weyrlings, Ko’ssen’s expression was more serious than the other times he’d stood in front of these weyrlings as he began with:

“You're nearly a full rider, as this is month you will be learning to fly with your dragons *between*, as long as you have been cleared for that lesson. Only once you have learned to go *between* and successfully completed that lesson will you be allowed to not just have anyone in your weyr that you want, but you will also be able to resume those intimate activities that have been forbidden up till now. Your dragons are nearly full sized at this point. Bronzes on average are 30 ft, Browns 26 ft, Blues around 22 ft and greens about 18 ft.”

Dragons will begin staying with dragons other than clutchmates. Some may still prefer the friends they made while training, but they no longer feel a need to only be with their classmates, and may be sunning or resting with those in the Wings their rider may potentially be joining. Some clutchmates remain very close, however, and when they are in Wings together, they often overcompensate and must be separated in formation by Wingseconds and Wingleaders until they get a bit more experience and learn to adjust their feelings.”

The WLMA looked around "Otherwise, the principle difference this month will be learning the art of going *between* and more about becoming a full dragonrider pair above and beyond what we have done to date. Are there any questions?"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Forgotten of Foreth: Month 10 Overview

Ok, so here’s a list of the lessons/activities that would be expected to happen this month, regardless of if there is a lesson put out on the list or not, as well as various RP opportunity ideas. We are determining which lesson we are going to post to the list still, but if there’s a specific lesson or activity you’d like to see please let us know.

Lesson List/Activities:

~ Continuing physical training based on rider’s age: morning run around the Bowl followed by either calisthenics or the obstacle course on alternating days (this would have been happening since they Impressed)

~ Continuing series of lessons on All Territories: This month’s focus is on social structures and inter-weyr interactions between territories, North and South (taught by Harper).

~ Continuing Threadfall Discussion (built on from month 5 lesson): Threadfall Types & Wind Factors Activity

~ Continuing Muscle Strengthening Exercises: Outside the Weyr ‘Wing Flights’

~ Continued Self Defense Training (Advanced lesson, taught by Weyrguard):

~ Continuing *Between* Prep (built on from month 6 lesson): Drills on recognition points around the Weyr

~ ‘Greenrider-only’ Greenflight Lesson: participation is mandatory OOCly *and* ICly.

~ First *Between* (End of Month): First jump is either 1-on-1 with a WLM/AWLM or in your small mentor group but not in a full class setting. Any weyrling with *any* issue is held back from this lesson.

~ First Kill (only after successful First *Between* lesson): Learning to hunt w/ your dragon.

RP Opportunities:

~ RP for ‘greenrider-only’ greenflight lesson.

~ Build up to First *Between* lesson: possible feelings could include anger at being held back, scared, excited, or even overconfident/cocky.

~ First Hunt: relief your dragon can hunt for themselves now, possible squeamishness at dragon ferocity in the hunt spilling over into your mind.

Pre-Month 10 *Betweening* Questionnaire

Alright everyone, I know it seems like we *just* did a Month 8 Interview for your weyrlings, but before we RP *anything* related to a betweening lesson there is a very small questionnaire that I’d like to get answers for in regards to each weyrling. This is especially important for any weyrlings that had problems enough to be either held back from moving out, or allowed to move out with caveats on possibly being pulled back to the barracks if necessary.

Also, the biggest thing to remember is that if your weyrling is still having *any* issues whatsoever, they will not be learning to go *between* with the rest of their classmates. The WLM team will not risk a ‘oh, it’s only a small problem’ weyrling attempting the *between* lesson and then not surviving, and Ko’ssen especially is going to be very strict on making sure all weyrling issues (Impression Anxiety, behavior, bookwork, and physical activity lessons) are all resolved before each weyrling does their *between* lesson.

Month 4 Intro and OOC ((Attn: All MD Weyrlings))

Rosiegirl

OOC: Set date of 28.8.1

Ko’ssen was back in front of the MD weyrlings again this morning, leaning against the desk in front of the room with his arms crossed but otherwise looking relaxed when the weyrlings all began to file in and take their seats. Smiling at them, Ko’ssen waited for them to all get settled before straightening up and getting everyone’s attention.

Pitching his voice up to carry throughout the room, Ko’ssen began with a smile “Alright everyone, we are now beginning the fourth month together and at this point green dragons should be around 11ft, blues at around 14ft, browns at around 16, and bronzes at around 18ft.”

Looking around at the weyrlings, Ko’ssen continued with “Now here is where things start getting a little more intense. You will be doing a lot of new things in this month which we will expand and build on as time goes on. Your dragons will want to fly, but we will still be concentrating on building their muscles with swimming and exercises in preparation for them flying. However, the good news is that in preparations for your first flights you will not only be fitted for flight gear but will start making your first sets of straps. This is mainly because you will be doing mounted ground drills to learn the principles of formation.”

"Regular bathing and oiling is still necessary, especially for the blues and greens who will be rapidly growing over the next couple of months in comparison to the bronzes. They may even need an extra feeding that is out of character so do not be surprised by this. We will be watching your progress carefully in this month and will have a review with all of you to ensure everything is well by the end of the month."

Midsummer Dreamers: Month 4 Overview:

Ok, so here’s a list of the lessons/activities that would be expected to happen this month, regardless of if there is a lesson put out on the list or not, as well as various RP opportunity ideas. We are determining which lesson we are going to post to the list still, but if there’s a specific lesson or activity you’d like to see please let us know.

Lesson List/Activities:

~ Continuing physical training based on rider’s age: morning run around the Bowl followed by either calisthenics or the obstacle course on alternating days

~ Continuing series of lessons on Northern Territory: This month’s focus is on Benden and surrounding territory (taught by Harper): geography, weather patterns, history, & politics

~ Continuing Ground Drills: more complex formations, increased time

~ Continuing Dragon-rider Bonding Exercises: blindfold race

~ Continuing Muscle Strengthening/Flight Prep Exercises: more swimming and flapping exercises

~ Making Flying Straps Lesson: taught by leathercrafter

~ Frequent tests on knowledge: testing across all topics

~ Review meeting with WLM/AWLMs on progress to date

~ Firestone pickup from dragonback: weyrlings are on ground tossing bags up to riders who don’t land

~ Fall Experience: maintaining firestone bag supplies for the Wings

~ Flight Gear Fitting: Done by tailor or leathercrafters

RP Opportunities:

~ Reaction to Helping during ‘Fall

~ Firestone bag tossing to riders during ‘Fall: possible muscle strain, or ‘failed’ tossing that doesn’t reach the rider trying to grab the bag (these are *heavy* bags after all and your weyrling might not be physically prepared/strong enough to throw them into the air yet)

~ New earlier schedule annoyance (or not) and physical training in the morning for the human side of the weyrling pair.

~ Trouble making flying straps (weyrlings with leathercraft experience can possibly help other weyrlings)

~ Flight Gear Fitting: the realization that you will be a Threadfighter! Excitement, sudden fear as it’s made more real, a huge ‘wow’ moment perhaps...

Month 4 Review:

So, because there is supposed to be a Month 4 review at the end of the month with your weyrling and the WLM team, I went ahead and made a specific OOC post regarding all the things that would have been covered in this review. If you would not mind taking a look at that OOC post (found here: https://arolosweyr.groups.io/g/OOC/message/160891) and answering a couple of questions that would be greatly appreciated, and would also help us to be better prepared for when your weyrlings are in Month 8 and getting their Interview done before being cleared for moving out of the barracks.

"I'd certainly appreciate the good word!" Sehrael said jovially. "I'd be happy to do the same if there are any good words you'd like me to send around. So, what's good around the weyr? What do weyrfolk do for fun?" There was, of course, a reputation out and about, but Sehrael doubted that was all there was to it.
"Well, I guess that depends what you're looking to do," Raelah
answered. "A lot of people enjoy swimming, especially being so warm
and sunny here. Hookball is pretty popular with the candidates and
weyrbrats. There's Harpers for music, dancing, card games and the
like. Heck, I've even put on a couple of shows since coming here, but
that's more to keep my hand in than anything else. Don't want to get
out of practice."

"Life is NOT a journey to the grave with the goal of arriving safely
in a prettily preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways in a
shower of gravel and party shards, thoroughly used, utterly exhausted,
and loudly proclaiming: "F*** ME, that Rocked!!" -unknown

Clutching Time: attn Nyzara / C'lynx

kepheren

The day after flying thread was always something of a treat for C'lynx.  First off there was the simple joy of still being alive and not injured all to hell and back in the infirmary. Having had that experience a couple of times made the young bronze rider appreciate life all the more. Then there was the fact that the day after was generally a rest day and he could always appreciate that. Today didn't seem to be any different so he was settling in with the intent of doing absolutely nothing for awhile and just decompress. Brahn however had other ideas. The little bronze suddenly perked up from where he was dozing and began darting all over their weyr having a fit about something.

"What's gotten into you?" he asked, a bit irritated and more than a little puzzled.

In response he got an earful of chatter, several mental images of Flare and Nyzara and then the little bronze was out the door in a flash with an urgent demand that he be followed. C'lynx watched the receding image for a moment before giving chase. Maybe it was time for the gold flit to clutch? That would make sense. And he did want to see Nyzara again. Without a second thought he hopped up and went to follow. If nothing else he couldn't let Brahn run loose when he was in a mood like that. No telling what mischief he would start.

"Slow down you little trouble maker. I'm right behind you."

And so they were off to goodness only knew where hoping that Brahn had a better idea than his human pet did.

Re: Party: Things Are Different Here. attn Kashara / Ronhim

He frowned a bit at her raining on his dream and finally sighed a bit.

"No, it wouldn't be perfect I guess...but what ever is? Your mother and Floreth love each other don't they? Despite any arguing. Neither of them is ever alone or has to face life without the other at their side. I'm so tired of being alone..."

The last sounded a bit sad when he said it aloud and Ronhim wasn't sure why he had chosen this moment to make such a confession. Maybe because it was on his mind lately.  At any rate he tried to move on past the thought.

"So your the Weyrwoman's daughter and grew up in the Weyr? All of my little worries must sound very strange to you."

While new to Arolos even Ronhim had heard who Foreth was and that riders had different sorts of family relations than holders or crafters did.
