Insera nodded. "You'll probably have to work on that relationship, too, but being ignored is an okay option. So do you need anything else? Or can we expect to see you in class tomorrow?"

Re: (Gather Dance, Stabbing) What About Foreth? (attn:Rassia/any!)

"The Weyrwoman was attacked?" Rassia asked, eyes wide. She'd just been on the way to the dance when everyone started screaming and running. "Mom? is my mom okay?" Everyone was running away from the dance, but she had to see if her mom was okay.

((Huh? What's wrong with mine?)) Foreth had been half asleep when Talith's words came through. ((Mine's hurt? What happened to mine?)) Alone except for the guards outside the Caverns, Foreth started panicking.

Kassia, sensing the disturbance, reached for her lifemate. ((I'm fine, love. It wasn't me. I have guards.))

((BUT I CAN'T SEE YOU! WHO WOULD HURT YOU?)) The sound of Foreth's angry roar burst out of the Caverns and she projected her voice to be wide around. ((I'll GET THEM! NO ONE HURTS MINE!)) She struggled, her leg and wings still not fully mended, and then sank back angrily to bite at the Sands around her.

Kassia groaned. ((I'll get back to you. I've got guards, I'm safe!))

"Kodah, we have to find R'tal."

Revai looked her up and down. "Yes, I have a couple to sell. Not to just anybody. You're a Candidate, yes? I don't generally sell to Candidates."

L'nix followed Giselle while listening curiously. "Well, I can't say I'd be upset about a small blue. A small green would be my ideal, so would that mean a smaller egg? Or can a small firelizard be in a big egg and vice versa? This craft is actually rather fascinating once you get to thinking about it." Sure it could be boring to think about eggs and what's in them, seeing that as more of a gambling game, but to L'nix it harkened back to when he and the other Fortians tried to guess Hollanth's eggs. It was good that Nyzara didn't argue the point, because Tyne would have argued back just as stubbornly. And Tyne knew stubborn like Harpers knew songs. Briskly she strode from the room, the door closing firmly behind her. Mindhealers, when would they learn? Next time, she would insist on speaking to Torrela. At least she could tolerate the woman.

OoC: Thank you for the thread :D It's nothing personal - Tyne just goes on the defensive with the Mindhealers. I suspect she's gone through more than a few by now!

"I think we're done here. I suggest that the next time you agree to take on a complicated case with significant history, that you take the time to read the case file first." Her firelizard would see the firm set to her face, the slit upward tilt of her jaw. To be honest, Tyne didn't care. But when she spoke again, there was a definite edge to her tone, a coolness that had been starting to slip away but was now firmly back in place.

"I was attempting to politely tell you that we have only recently taken the step to start humping like animals without going into unnecessary detail. I assumed you and your gaggle of colleagues would need to know." Tyne said, further annoyed that her irritation made her crude. Rude or not, she was contemplating whether to walk out of there. "I don't think we're well established enough to have that conversation. It's a very new thing. We've only just recently turned a corner in terms of our... physical intimacy."

Even now, after having been a Rider herself having lived in Weyrs for almost half of her life, sex - or rather, talking about it - still made her uncomfortable. The last vestiges of her Hold upraising still firmly in place. Tyne had never been bawdy, never been one to casually sit and discuss her private affairs. And that hadn't changed. "Not many," she admitted as though loathe to do so. "I think people find me hard to be around. Especially the Riders. I don't blame them. But I think perhaps I'm... mingling better..." She was hesitant as though that wasn't quite the right word. "I went and spoke to the Candidates before the Hatching, about them sending their firelizards to me. And that was okay. Candidatemaster Nayari was especially clear about ground rules before I went in to them. And that helped. I felt I could trust her to be clear about what topics weren't going to be acceptable."

Part of her wanted to be as unhelpfully stubborn as she could. But what exactly would that achieve? "I've felt more confident about approaching people on my own. Like with the firelizard clinic - I went and spoke to Master Larsin and then he pointed me in the direction of Journeywoman Ambrelli who I have been working with." But how many people were "friends" exactly? She wasn't really much for socialising, spending a lot of her time either alone or with R'zzon. Idri of course but she was family - that was a different relationship altogether. Ah.. right. She should probably mention that.

"I do have a... romantic interest..." It came out as guiltily as a child admitting to having stolen a reserved dessert. If the gold was sharing the images, she would have shown Nyzara a deeply flushed face, the faintest of smiles and guilty eyes. The young gold was rewarded with a low hissing growl that came from deep in Bobbin's throat. A warning from the most senior Queen in the room that Flare needed to mind her manners. "Yes, Bobbin and Cairn." She offered no apology for their presence and the cool edge to her voice suggested that one wasn't coming either. If this newbie hadn't brushed up on her notes enough to know that she always had the pair present, well, that was on the Mindhealer.

She shook the hand brusquely and then casually, she dropped into a seat, folding her legs neatly over one another. "So, I'm presuming you've read my file and know why I have to come and see the Mindhealers."

Had she thought about hurting herself at all recently. Sigh.

At least being later on in the day she had been able to pretend the day was normal. And wasn't spending it ramping up with edgy, nervous anticipation of having to spend an candlemark getting picked at. Oh well, may as well get it over with. After knocking in the door and being called in, Tyne opened it and walked in breezily. "Good afternoon Journeywoman. I don't think we've had the pleasure."

Ah, so this was the new one she'd heard mumblings about. Nothing specific, just that there was a new body. Re: Can *you* help *me*? (ATTN: Nyzara, Tyne)

OoC: As the gold is her eyes, I'm assuming she's with her.

IC: A quick glance at the gold told Tyne all she needed to know. The obviously gravid gold would likely be clutching any time now. "First clutch I presume," she remarked as she wiped off her hands with a rag. There was dust everywhere. "Have you seen her nesting about your weyr at all? If she's planning to clutch in your weyr, then she will have already claimed a nesting site. If not, then she's picked it elsewhere and you need to find out where." As much as Bobbin nearly always clutched with Tyne at her side, there was the odd occasion where the fussy creature decided that somewhere else was better. And was promptly ratted out by the rest of the fair so Tyne could recover the clutch. Well, at least this wasn't some attempt to follow up to what could fairly be described as disastrous meeting.

It certainly wasn't going to be done in a day, and probably not even a sevenday. Wearing clothes she was happy to destroy and a scarf over her hair, Tyne hefted a large box to the ground, stopping to open it and finding another crate of empty numbweed jars that would need re-sterilising. At least she knew where they had been storing them. "In the back!" she called, looking up at the irritated chatter she noted from Bobbin, a flash of the Mindhealer through her thoughts. Oh, marvellous. This had better not been an "impromptu visit to check on you". She was far beyond that nonsense. But she was polite enough to take the woman's blindness into consideration and stepped out from the maze of boxes and towards the open front of what had been a wall. It had come down at some point and she was already discussing with the Woodcraft, about the installation of a large set of doors that would protect the front from weather damage as at the moment, the rain just blew right in.

"How can I help?"

"Come on over here then to our green tray." Giselle smiled at him and gestured he followed her. "So we can generally get a pretty good guess on what will hatch but sometimes we're wrong and what you end up with is a smaller version of the next colour. So you won't get a brown or a bronze but it's also possible that you might get a blue and not a green."

Excitement flowed through L'nix that flooded over to Slarkenth and made the brown hum in eagerness.

Re: GATHER: Callamere Stall - Firelizards (NPC Giselle/Delysia)

Giselle had laughed lightly at the reply, a sweet and cheery sounded. "No offence taken at all, ma'am. I know the feeling entirely. I would walk over hot coals barefoot for my Shimmer, even if she had been found on the beach and not from one of our own eggs." Said gold, currently grooming herself carefully on a nearby perch had glanced up at the sound of her name, offering a perfunctory chirrup of greeting at Aeode. It was all polite manners and etiquette rather than borne out of genuine friendliness, but then that was golds all over. The epitome of manners.

"Toys you say? Why we do indeed carry a selection. Same with training treats and some rather more indulgent. Ironic you mention those, I've been in talks with someone at the Weyr about arranging to have some kept in Weyr for people to obtain for their own firelizards." She gestured to one side of the tent where large stands had been set up that were positively festooned in just about every sort of toy, training device, wrapped boards for sharpening talons, even several floor perches had been set up. "Are you looking for anything in particular or do you like to let your beautiful girl choose for herself? I know *I* don't get a say in the matter when I'm buying for Shimmer!"

"Thank you. I most certainly am." Delysia responded pleasantly. "And no, Aoede here is wild bred. I hope you'll not be offended if I say that I would not trade her for any other firelizard in the world, as fine as your bloodlines are." Certainly, the glance that the small queen gave Giselle was haughty enough to belong to the most carefully bred gold.

"But it's actually for Aoede that I've come. I seem to recall this stall carrying a very fine selection of firelizard toys in the past. Aoede deserves her Gather Day treat, same as anyone else."

IC: Bidding a customer a good day, Giselle moved through the customers and promptly affected a polite curtsey when she saw the Goldrider. She had caught a glimpse of the gold thread, if not the full knots themselves. "Good Gather to you ma'am. I hope you are enjoying yourself thoroughly. And an equally good Gather to your lovely lady there - is she one of ours?." Of course she had noticed the gold, Giselle had probably noticed the firelizard before she noticed the Rider. "Please let me know if I can assist you at all."

OOC: Delysia is not looking for a firelizard - only firelizard treats and toys. I assumed that the Callamere stall would carry some. If that's not the case, feel free to let her know ICly xD

The best part of any gather is the opportunity to browse the stalls and Delysia enjoyed it to the full. As it was during the day, she dressed simply but well, in an elegant dress of deep blue with split skirt to maximize her freedom of movement. A small dainty pale gold firelizard perched on her shoulder, partially obscuring her rank knots - though the firelizard itself was a clear advertisement of her position. And besides, there was the pair of guards that trailed a discrete two paces behind.

By chance, Delysia's footsteps took her past the spectacular Callamere compound. She paused. Aoede had behaved extraordinarily well during the months when Delysia's attention had been primarily focused on Razelth. She had earned a special treat. With that in mind, she approached the stall.

IC: One trader caravan was eagerly awaited every Mid-Summer Gather and the Callamere compound was always a sight to see. The large paddocks housing the Callamere White runners - their coats glinting brightly in the morning sun as they tossed their heads and flicked their tails. Near that was the large, text like structure where the wher-pups for Bonding were available to be seen, watched over by Revai’s trio of golds and beyond that again was the firelizard stall - the roof of the open-fronted tent festooned with firelizards trilling their merry song, darting through the air like colourful flags.

The Turn, it was not Sythy manning the stall but rather her replacement, her younger sister Giselle, the blonde-haired woman the spitting image of her father, Riv. Tall but lean, her blonde hair braided and wearing a light blue belted tunic, she struck a cheerful figure as she carefully fussed over the trays of eggs that had been arranged and marked up with their colour and prices. On her shoulder, draped with casual elegance was the unmistakable shape of a Callamere gold firelizard who inspected her Mistress’s handiwork with a discerning eye.

When they were finally ready to go, the barriers were taken down, the gangway cleared and the stall was open to all!

OoC: IMPORTANT - Read this OOC before posting a reply as this lays down a bit of groundwork on how to reply and some OOC/IC notes to keep to mind.

  • Please add your character name to the subject line to create a new thread rather than just replying to the core thread. This is to help me keep the threads in track.

  • Threads do not need to just be for purchasing. Maybe your character has questions, wants advice or just wants to know a bit more about the Callamere lineage.

  • There are only a limited number of firelizards available and an extremely small amount of metallics. People who have recently obtained a metallic in the Easter gifting will be given a lower preference to someone who has not. A character with few/no draconic pets will be given higher preference over someone who has many. This is to be as fair as possible.

  • ICly your character needs to logically have a reason to have the amount of marks they have. For example, a Candidate is unlikely to have 12 marks for a bronze flirelizard.

  • ICly your character will be questioned regarding their suitability. Remember Callamere firelizards are not just wild firelizards, they are carefully bred and temperamentally selected. If your character does not seem to be up to scratch (for any number of reasons), they can and will be refused the sale.

  • Although Candidates are permitted to purchase a firelizard if they so wish, this will make them ineligible to Stand at the next Hatching due to the firelizard being about 3-4 months old at the time and therefore likely to go wild. Given the price of their animals, Callamere will likely try to deter any Candidate where possible but please give an OOC note if you are intending not to Stand to Impress anyway.

  • Although Callamere does allow their firelizards to Impress to children as young as 9 Turns, no child under the age of 14 Turns will be served without a parent/guardian present.

How much do Callamere firelizards cost?

Green - 5 marks

Blue - 8 marks

Brown - 12 marks

Bronze - 15 marks

Gold - Not available through purchase

OoC: If she's looking at anything in particular from my album I keep for Ysolde ( https://www.pinterest.co.uk/lynnmperry/ysoldes-jewellery/) - feel free to link it so I know how to play off the description etc.

IC: "Thank you, ma'am!" Ysolde said brightly and with a hint of genuine warmth. She didn't care what others thought of Delysia as being standoffish, she liked the Goldrider immensely. "And may I say, thank you so much for your generosity. I've been thoroughly enjoying working with you." She glanced over as someone drifted near the stall but then wandered off again. "My father and I make a deal that I work with him for the day on the first day of the Gather as it's typically our busiest what with the Arolos Cup, then the rest is my own. I am highly looking forward to letting my hair down and probably catching far too much sun!" In the relaxed Trader environment, there was a very different side to Ysolde - something far more open and generally friendly which was a stark change from her serious and studious frame of mind as a Candidate. She was of course looking forward to spending the following day walking the Gather with S'ryll but she highly doubted the serious Goldrider would be interested in knowing of such frivolities.

As Delysia looked over the pieces, Ysolde glanced over with a smile. "I used waxed threads because it allows for a range of intricacies from something very simple to something much more extravagant. I find it's a style that suits a wide range of people, can be extremely customisable and without using metal, brings the prices down into ranges that more people can afford meaning it allows for things that in traditional, metal set pieces, would just be far too beyond the realm of possibility of owning. And I don't agree with that. I think everyone should have the opportunity for something special - jewellery can be kept for highly sentimental reasons - why exclude someone from owning something as important to them because they can't afford the materials that have traditionally been used." It was quite clear that Ysolde took immense pride in her work, and her philosophy behind it. She had created something that was far more readily available to the masses. It benefited boths sides of the mark - her father's profit margin and the customer base.

On Fri, Jun 5, 2020 at 2:09 AM <mglady3@...> wrote:
"It's good weather for a Gather And there's a good selection of stalls this year." Delysia acknowledged. "Be sure to take some time to look around yourself." She advised with a smile. "I'm certain your father would be able to spare you for a little while."

She tooks few steps close so that she could browse over the items on display. She'd been keeping her eyes out for a possible gift for Karla and this was as good an opportunity as any. She paused briefly over a necklace featuring a deep blue stone. "This is very fine work." She murmured.

OOC: Also feel free to assume that Delysia would have given Ysolde a small bonus for her assistant work - maybe 1/4 - 1/2 mark - leading up to the Gather.

Ysolde had just brought out a new box to top up one of their trays when she heard the familiar voice. Her father had left her in charge of the stall whilst he delivered a commission he had finished. At the sound of the familiar voice, Ysolde looked genuinely delighted to see the Goldrider there. "Fair skies to you, ma'am!" she said with a genuine and enthusiastic smile. "I hope you are enjoying walking the Gather - my father and I seem to be appealing to peoples' desire to purchase their fancies this turn."

"I hope you've been enjoying a prosperous gather?"

If your character is looking at a specific piece, feel free to link the pin in  your reply. Your character can also enquire about a commission or even be there to collect a commission that they have had made by Diolde.

IC: Ysolde had been awake some hours before the normal morning bell. She had packed her Gather boxes the night before and was yawning widely as she stumbled out of the quiet Barracks to meet her father and the small wagon he had procured in order to take their wares to the Gather.

This turn, Ysolde had asked her father for permission to set up their stall a little differently. Normally Diolde did something very simple but Ysolde had argued with him many a time that their wares could be set up far more attractively in order to show off their wares to better catch the eyes of any prospective customers. Reluctantly, Diolde had let his daughter take the reins and had to admit, she had had a point. So this turn, their little stall was a small, enclosed tent space with an open front and a table they could sit behind. Boards had been carefully mounted on the walls with assorted jewellery pieces with each board bearing the price of the pieces per board. The same had been done on the table where various trinkets had been arranged in trays with tiny, simple pieces starting at a ¼ mark. Prices were clearly marked except for an arrangement behind the table, out of the reach of curious fingers was a display of clearly more elaborate and valuable pieces with a small card reading “prices available on request”. There was also a small sign up hung saying “Enquire About Commissions”.

There were clearly two styles. One being Diolde’s more traditional, metal based gemwork. His items were on the more expensively marked trays for the most part although a few, smaller pieces were visible on the less expensively marked trays. He had several pieces already commissioned, waiting to be collected. The rule was always the same. If they weren’t collected by the end of the second Gather day - regardless of whether they had been paid for - they would be sold off.

Ysolde’s pieces were clearly a distinctive style all their own, using waxed threads to create knotted and colourful pieces around pieces of gem. Clearly her style focused on using less metal but was still a skill all its own. It displayed an intricacy all its own and seemed to have a versatility to its appearance that suggested it would suit a range of styles.

There was a huge array of items, rings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, brooches, earrings, hair pieces, even a few ornate belts which were clearly designed to be decorative rather than practical. Ysolde’s style had even branched out to make a few small coin pouches and belt pouches and some elaborate, web-like pieces mounted on rings that could be hung on walls.. But they were ready, their wares were on sale and it was time to welcome the customers.

The bronze posed and preened, puffing himself up and warbling. There was a distinct aura of "look but don't touch" emanating from him, something that said this was all for show. The brown on the other hand, whilst not overtly posturing, had a decidedly deliberate manner to his stance, the careful way he mantled his wings, the steady movement of his head to watch his "audience". At the question, Giselle conferred with Shimmer for a moment and inspected the pair with a critical eye. "Looking at their sizes and proportions, as well as overall demeanour, I would say they're about two and half turns. The bronze comes across as a little younger but to be honest, it's much of a muchness, I would say."

Sure enough, a moment later a bronze and brown had appeared and settled on one of the perches set up behind the stall counters. Not surprisingly, the bronze immediately puffed up with a proud warble, flexing his wings and posturing. The brown was far more demure, but composed, inspecting Giselle and Nevena with intense interest.

Nevena turned her gaze toward the bronze and let out a short giggle at the bronze's antics.  "So cute.  Hello to you both."  She greeted the two firelizards before turning her attention back onto Giselle.  "I can see different aspects of my work that each would be good for.  How old are they?"

A more serious edge had come about Giselle's features as she listened to the man, nodding a little to show she had taken it on board. "So you want something calmer then. I would definitely recommend either blue or brown. Greens are as sweet as they can be but they can be rather overexcitable at times. You want something that has a quietly reassuring presence." There was nothing wrong with wanting a firelizard more solely as a companion rather than with a working use in mind, but you had to make the right match. Much like purchasing a canine or runner for a specific use.

Whenever someone approached the eggs, they were always watched a little more carefully. As did the few discreet Guards who weren't in uniform and just happened to mill about the compound. "Good Gather to you, and fair skies, Rider!" Came Giselle's cheerful greeting, glancing up at the man but clearly not taking a step towards him. She always hated the Traders that pounced on you the second you approached but she always made sure to greet anyone who came into her tent with a bright welcome.

For now, he was just looking. If anyone approached him, that may change. One caught his eye, a spiraling of glittering bronze and brown colors that reminded him of an agenothree cloud caught in the sun, but less deadly.
