The dark-haired girl coughed hard a few times before she called back, voice almost lost, "Yes, but I don't see a way out."

"You're not the one who *walked in* on them!" Kassia threw up her hands. "It's not my fault they're supposedly adults. Shalia has two brats now, you know?"

"Oh. Oh Faranth." R'tal did not fetch glasses. He put his head in his hands and shut his eyes instead. "Thank you so much for sharing that mental picture. You realise in my head they're both still five and cute?"

Re: Yes, she's meant to be this size. Yes, we've been asked before. (Dytha/Ambrelli)

She didn't like the word disease. More she didn't like the connotations that people usually held in their head about it. Usually along the lines of it being contagious. "Healers aren't sure what it is. It's some sort of skin condition but it comes and goes. Had it since I was a kid. Keeping it simple and not too morbid, I get really dry skin on the soles of my feet. It gets thick and dead like it's not being gotten rid of. But that means it cracks. A lot. So it makes things miserable. But I've got stuff to keep me sane when it's really kicking off. Being given a weyr right over the Infirmary helps. Even if it's going to take ten turns to get it cleaned up and livable." Her practical tone suggested that she had been dealing with this for long enough to consider it a normal facet of her life and one that she knew how to handle. "It's why I wasn't destined to be a Candidate. So I was determined to be a Crafter - actually I was going to be a Healer. I wanted to be a researcher." Or rather, she had accepted that she was never going to get given a role that required a lot of travel when she could go months struggling to take even a single step. "Then I ended up here. Turned out I realised that there was a lot to learn about dragons too. I did a study on dragon eggs and caught the eye of Master Larsin." And also drew the ire of Goldrider Delysia. But that was a story for another day. Mind you, that had been then. Maybe things would be less... hostile now.

As she spoke, she had continued to check over Ponth, pausing to jot more notes down here and there. From the open pages of her journal, now lying open on the trolley, it was possible to see that there was an intricate sketch of a dragons foot, notes dotted around it.

Ponth was more than happy to comply, puffing herself up even more. For all the difference it made. She looked like she could go swimming in the wallow she was sitting in, had someone thought to fill it with water.

Of course you may. Unfortunately my talons are dreadfully dull today. I shall make sure that  Healer-mine paints them an especially lovely colour the next time we're coming.

The green spoke directly to Ambrelli. Something of a surprise but then, they were in a professional setting and Ponth had been more than happy to bespeak the Healers and Dragonhealers that wandered by. Usually because she wanted something. She flexed her neck, her dainty proportions and sumptuous curvature all the more obvious. If dragons had a waistline definition, there definitely would have been a picture of Ponth next to it.

Ambrelli breathed in again, listening to Dytha, the young woman making sense, even if Ambrelli couldn't shake the feeling that she needed to see this idea through.  How could she just casually dismiss a way to save the two people that mattered to her the most?  Whose death had started her down this dark and angry path?  She couldn't, but Dytha was not going to be the person to help her with that. At least now the apprentice knew why she'd looked faint.  Merck chirped in her ear, still anxious for her.  It was rare the times that she was so out of sorts that he got upset, and she reached up to reassure him.

"So you suffer from a disease?" Ambrelli asked.  "That's got to be rough as a Rider."  She ignored the girl's touchy statements, knowing all too well herself that she had her days when she was insufferable.  "You need help with anything, just let me know."  She wasn't going to coddle the woman either, as she'd obviously been dealing with the issue fine all by herself.

"Ponth," Ambrelli said directly to the dragon.  She needed to distract herself, give herself something to do.  "Would it be alright if I came closer and looked at you?  Touched you?  Forgive my curiosity, but I've never something as amazing as you are."  She knew dragons liked flattery, and it wasn't untrue.  Ponth was amazing.  A two thousand Turns ago dragon?  Had to be the first thing on the top ten list of Amazing.

Brogan, officially off duty for the night, watched the kitten with interest.

"Don't you dare eat it," Kassia growled at him in her 'I mean it' tone.

Brogan lowered his head and then walked around to curl up in his bed.

Kassia turned back to Sh'ain. "So, dinner?"

Garatt looked down at his feet, still blushing hotly, and didn't attempt to add to that excuse. The Weyrwoman was never likely to have been in the position of not wanting to admit just how much you weren't enjoying a party but not wanting to be uncool enough to make it obvious you were leaving.

"No, children don't get to wander around on their own," Kassia said without looking at her. Brogan padded at her side, ever the faithful sentinel.

It was early and she knew, because she'd left him at their weyr to come there, that he had the late shift and would still be at home. She led Shalia right into the weyr she shared with Sh'ain.

"Sh'ain!"

The rumbling grew louder, masking Kashara's call. Yiyu turned, thinking to return to the other's side, but found herself blocked as stones, dirt, and rubble tumbled down in front and around her.

"Well, you did bring it, so you're probably right," Sh'ain teased, bending over so the kitten could jump down without hurting herself.  "Although 'Not-Food' has a ring to it," he added, giving a pointed look at Brogan.  "It worked for Rhyth and Artaq..."

R'tal sighed. "While I hate to point this out, being that I am not in a position where my opinion affects anything at all _and do not wish to be_," he said, putting a heavy stress on those last words, "is you punishing the next Lady Holder going to propel the Weyr into a political incident? She's not exactly just your daughter any more."

Shalia gave Sarati a wan smile of commiseration and mouthed "Sorry" before following the Weyrwoman out.  "I can find my own way there if you want," she offered, though without much hope of being taken up on it.

Re: Following the Leader (ATTN: Yiyu/Kashara)

Yiyu hesitated for just a moment. "I could swear I heard her come this way," was her quiet answer. She couldn't lose the little life that depended on her, no matter how much trouble she might be. She turned for a moment, then swung back, away from Kashara.

"I'll just go a little further," she promised, stepping into the weak light cast by Kashara's own glow and then out of it into the unknown.

"Sarati, don't leave this weyr. I'll be back." For good measure, she had Foreth ground Kabelth to the ledge. The extra guard she'd brought could stay on the door to make sure that her daughter didn't try to leave.

Satisfied that she could deal with one culprit later, she gestured for Shalia to follow and walked out, expecting Shalia to follow.

Turning swiftly, Yiyu accepted the glow with a small, worried smile. "Thank you," she remembered to say before turning back down the turn.
