"That's enough, Aru." There was a warning in Cremsden's voice. "Here now the pair of you. Scram over to the classroom - Aru, can you run Kyrel through some of the common herbs? It's quiet enough. I'll come by later." And have words on how you did and didn't deal with patients like Z'go.

"Only a fool wouldn't at least think about it, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt," he replied, conjuring the fakest smile he could muster.  Watching carefully, he let her go back into the box, his interest piqued enough to be curious and happened to notice the F on the jar as well. "Well?" Leodred looked at her, expectantly.  "Pop one, right?"

He had a guess at what it could be, as in his limited knowledge he could only recall one medical term that started in F.  Not only that, but all these boxes had the stink of redwort on them, so they had to be some healer's stash.

Re: Taking Advantage ( Namieh / Leodred )

"What makes you think I was going to take anything?" Namieh asked, no need to fake the offense she felt. How did he know that? Stupid boy! A lucky guess, she surmised, her proverbial hackles on the rise regardless.

His question made her shrug, transitioning to nonchalant. "Dunno, I only just got a glance at them. Can't really tell until we pop one open though." Unless they were labeled. She bent down and plunged her hand into the box once more, retrieving the simple jar sealed shut with wax. The letter 'F' had been painted on its exterior. "Huh."

Leodred erupted out of the darkness, arriving through one of the tunnel maybe six feet up ahead.  He tried to stop himself but not only ended up skidding but crashing into the wall as well.  Picking himself up off the floor he looked at her, his steel gray eyes wide open, and his chest lunging as his lunged sucked up air.  It took him a moment, but Leodred managed to get himself under control, "Thanks, lost my torch, though I was going to... die down there..."

He decided against mentioning the strange sounds he'd heard.  Could there really be something living deep underneath the Weyr?  No, imposible, someone would know, for sure.  Right?  "Name's Leodred.  What are you doing down here?"

Re: The Greenest Pastures (Green Flit Flight!) (Atten: Any Flit)

Toki had taken to sunning himself on the Weyr's rocks, preferring the way they gathered the day's heat to spots nearer the Harper Haven where His Person stayed. Faceted eyes caught sight of a luminous green streak zipping through the air, her voice an invitation he felt compelled to accept.

The little bronze leaped from his perch, broad wings snapped wide to catch the air and send him rocketing upward after her. Trumpeting in tiny bravado, he answered her call.

Yiyu caught sight of the collar even as she extended one hand for him to sniff. She considered her current state of being: wet beneath the outfit she wore, hair dripping water down her back, and decided she had time to return this bronze to this D'vek.

"Hmm, D'vek much be your owner," she said quietly. "Would you know where he might be, pretty boy?"

The more time she spent here, the more she loved the Weyr. The more she loved the Weyr, the more she refused to think about leaving, failing, and/or not belonging. Because of course she did belong. Albeit to a few people only.

But that didn't mean her timidness had fled completely, or that she wasn't scared out of her whits to find someone in one of the tunnels Tyne had showed her. Footsteps slowly then stopping, she tilted her basket of glows to try to see-

Re: I'm Late, for a very important date! (Alyx/Asheran)

Jenna Cunningham

As much as possible, Asheran had attempted to scrub up, but given the craft he practiced, some stains were too baked into the palms of his hands now to easily wash away. So he had thrown on a clean shirt and pair of supple, tanned hide trousers, and a sleeveless leather jerkin over the shirt that he had stitched himself - and was inordinately proud of. The boots, too, were new; one of the attempts he had made recently while holed up in the tannercrafthall - just good enough to keep, but not good enough to trade for something better. Still, he had tried to style them after the boots he had seen dragonriders wearing around the Weyr, rather than something Hold-made, and wearing them made him feel confident enough to deal with the immediate challenge ahead of him: namely, courting a girl who was also his friend.

He sat with his back to the wall, tucked away in one of the empty store rooms between the hatching cavern and the candidate barracks, cradling and feeding the little green firelizard in his lap scraps of meat from a plate heaped high with chunks of herdbeast. He hadn't brought food to the spot originally, but then Ardy had come with the note that Alyx would be late - and he had rushed back to the dining hall to stock up, grabbing stew and rolls and an entire pitcher of wine, and that plate of meat. He had it all laid out before him now like some kind of picnic in the dusty nook, and his flit was singing happily as she gorged herself. He had even snuck out a couple of bubbly pies for dessert, but they hadn't made the trip back entirely unscathed. His belt-pouch was bruised blue from the burst berries, and he was still brushing crumbs from the pouch. He tucked her note into the pouch once it was clean enough, folded into a square, as a memento for later.

"Don't judge me," he murmured to Felix, the little flit, who had paused in her eating to lift her head and watch him quizzically. "You wouldn't understand yet, anyway. You're just little, you."

He stroked her head, and kept his eyes peeled for Alyx, too busy soothing the green in his arms to feel anything even remotely close to anxiety.

Re: Taking Advantage ( Namieh / Leodred )

Namieh had long since decided to spend every spare moment free of the endless litany of chores to explore the Weyr. In her experience, it was important to know the layout of a place and she would never be comfortable until she did. She'd wandered around the bowl, paced through the main halls, peeked into all the public spaces she came across and through any doors not locked. So much was left open, unattended. There was a lot of trust here, something she wasn't accustomed to seeing. People that trusting were either tightly knit or very stupid. She hadn't decided which the weyrfolk were yet.

When she'd come across the boxes piled in one of the tunnels, it had given her pause. A quick glance in either direction told her the hall was empty, and no one seemed to be around. What did we have here?

Namieh knelt behind the cover of the pile, preferring to have the wall at her back than let anyone sneak up on her. She carefully inspected one of the boxes; nothing written, no labels. Curious. Deft fingers pried open the lid, bright green eyes alight. There had been little more than time enough to stick her hand in and begin rifling through the contents before a voice caused her to freeze.

Oh, feck! Namieh wracked her brain for the right reaction, the right words. Bolting to her feet, she laid a hand over her chest and feigned attempting to catch her breath. "You scared me!" She deflected. Not entirely false. "Faranth, my heart is racing! Are you.. I mean, these don't happen to be yours, do they?" Her eyes flashed to the boxes and back. "Kinda sloppy just leaving them here, don'tcha think?"

The big brown snorted, sending a fine spray of water over the young lad, and stood up, shaking some water off of his body. The things the boy had were soaked beyond recovery any ways. Though why he bothered with such things was a mystery. Better to sit in the sun and rest for next threadfall. Of course...this boy was young. Too young still for thread. But that didn't matter he would grow. ((Come we will go to Mine, you do know how to mount, don't you?)) The old dragon tilted his head curiously at the boy, and blinked his great eyes.

I'm Late, for a very important date! (Alyx/Asheran)

Alyx

* OOC note, slight fuzzy time, later in the day from the random kitchen hatching*

What a day it had been! First a tiny green flit that almost killed itself with numbweed, then at lunch a tiny blue had attached himself to her, and Ardy, her friend Asheran had attached a small green. Then she'd gone back to work, she'd only been on the schedule for a couple more hours, now, four hours later, she was finally getting off. Three ladies had all gone into labor at about the same time, and three babies delivered, in four hours. She was so tired from the long day. But being late, she was glad that she'd sent a note out to Asheran, telling him that she'd be late, why, and asking him to grab some dinner, for them and the flits. After all the screaming, and crying and everything else today, she was craving quiet. There were always secluded places they could go to get some peace and quiet. As she finally stepped outside the infirmary, she stopped and did a long, slow stretch, hands coming up above her head, one shoulder popped softly, and some tension eased in her neck. She let her arms slowly fall back down, and just like that her new tiny blue was awake. She still wasn't sure what she was going to call him. She hadn't really bad time to think about it.

The tiny blue yawned once, blinked, then let out a plaintive creel of hunger. Not only would she be on baby duty in the infirmary, she now had her own to worry about. She'd be glad when this particular part of her training was over with. She turned her attention back to the blue and sent calming thoughts, which of course were only partially effective. The blue settled in place, tiny feet grasping the edge of her pocket, but the creeling didn't stop, so Alyx hurried her steps towards the meeting place they'd come to earlier.

Re: (Razelth's Clutch) Serenading the Queen: A Montage (ATTN: Razelth, Any)

Kendia hadn't missed the invitation to interact with the gold, and rushed along, bouncing down the walkway and grinning brilliantly. She only tripped *once* before she replaced the boy who'd gone before her, and beaming brightly, began to sing, one of the songs she'd learned in her lessons when she had been younger.

She was no Harper, but she had always done well enough that the Harper had always passed by her quickly - no need to give her further instruction on proper singing, apparently. The poor fellow had had horrible indigestion, apparently, with how he had always grimaced at her performances.

The child continued to wail away, taking no notice of anyone's reaction to the hideous sounds she produced.

Finally, her turn over, she managed a curtsy - knocking into the railing, somehow, in the process, and bounced away.

Bleon had no talent to speak of (though he was pretty sure he could have done better than the painful caterwalling of the girl before him), but he wanted to at least be seen. Surely being recognised would be to his advantage, right?

Even if he wasn't so sure he wanted to impress anymore, he didn't see as he had any other real options, given how his apprenticeship as a healer was going. That said, he still held out that he was someday going to remember what he'd been studying for so long and couldn't really afford the break from studying. So, he read her his notes - herbs and medicines with their uses and dosages - before slinking back off to study them some more.

His initial impulse to take to the stands and do push-ups for as long as he could, but he quickly dismissed the idea. He wanted to entertain her, but in a useful sort of way, not put her to sleep. He wasn't sure what exactly impressed a dragon (wingspan, probably) but she could benchpress more than he ever could aspire to. Weights were out.

In the end, he had gone back to his cramped, crowded quarters and carefully extracted the letters his family had sent him over the turns, and had made his way to the sands. There, he had waited until the last trilled note of a pipe had quieted, and that candidate who had played last had exited the cavern, and then stepped in himself and taken to the stands, carefully shuffling the sheaf of papers in his hands, clearing his throat. A part of him felt silly and small and hopeful; another part of him was proud because he was here, confident enough to read aloud, proud of all the progress he'd made during his time at the weyr.

"My sister, Felisa, she's with child again. It'll be her third. She's said... 'Dearest brother' - those are probably the harper's words, she wouldn't say it like that. Maybe 'Little Ashy' or something like that. Shards, though, uh, I mean - well, I'm larger than her by two and a half heads at least. But this will be her third. She thinks maybe a boy again. She's got one of each, but the..." He skimmed the first letter, skipping to the part in question: "The kicks make my back ache, like it did with Faelen, that's her boy, and I can't hardly sit down without having to get up again to, ah, well..." He scanned the letter again, searching for something more interesting than his sister confiding to him how often she had to relieve herself, and how that meant another nephew and not a niece.

"I hope you're doing well. Tomlin's had trouble with the harvest this turn, which has strained things between him and I on account of it's Raegar who helps collect the tithe. But ma is doing well, and da seems better some days. He actually came out of his sick to play with Ava, that's her girl, and she was riding him around the cothold like a runnerbeast the last time we came to visit. You wouldn't have believed how fast he could move on his bad leg, either. It was almost like he was back to how he used to be before the accident."

He hesitated at the next paragraph, then shuffled that letter to the back and started on the next:

"...Dearest brother, I hope you're doing well. I'm so proud to hear that you're doing well in your classes. Don't worry, you'll be certain to..." to Impress this time, I'm certain of it. "...and even if things don't go as you've planned, then you'll have a place here until you find your feet again. Da's leg has been bad again in the cold, and it's put a strain on ma. News from Braden. He might be this way soon for one of the Gathers. He has a new instrumental piece with drums and pipes, and looks forward to playing for the Lord Holder..."

And on and on, carefully reciting all the little things that had happened to his family during the three and a half turns he had been a candidate at Arolos Weyr, focusing on the child-rearing parts, hoping there was at least some overlap between his little nephew learning to walk, and the trials and tribulations of laying eggs.

Eventually, finished reading - spying more anxious candidates waiting in the wings, he let his voice trail off until only the echo of his words remained, sketched a polite bow, and then made his way back toward the barracks, to catch a bit of sleep between chores and craftwork.

(OOC: If any candidates want to pile onto this with how they're entertaining the queen on the sands, feel free!)

When the tunnels of the Crafthalls were designed, they were designed with the idea that it would be necessary to draw in carts full of materiel, so they had had the foresight to make the tunnels in this area taller and especially wider to accommodate the necessities that the crafts may need.  What they did not foresee was that a stubborn 2nd pass blue dragon would feel the need to enter them on his own and uninvited.

He couldn't help it!  There was something inside of him, a primal urge that said, "There is something here that you must find and you must find it NOW!"  He had absolutely no clue what it was but Doryth was determined; more determined than he had been in his entire life, and he was going to... make... it... through!

Lucky for him, he was a 2nd pass blue, which meant that he was considerably smaller in comparison to his 8th pass brethren.  In his own time, Doryth would've been average size, though somewhat on the thinner and more flexible side of the spectrum, which was why he was able to traverse said tunnels.  Because of his wind it was a tighter squeeze than he would've liked, and he hadn't put much thought into how he was going to get out, but... he was almost there!

The blue stopped at the entrance of what he would later be told was the gemcrafting area of the crafthall and pushed his head against the door, trying to get in.

Meanwhile Desille had just finished eating a late breakfast in the Dining Cavern when she realized that Doryth was being oddly quiet.  [[ Love? ]] she queried but received no answer.  Suspicious.  [[ Love!? ]]

{{ I'm here!  Shh, I'm busy, }} he replied.

[[ Busy doing what, my love? ]]

{{ I'm looking for something.  Someone, I think.  I can smell her, but... I can't go any further! }}

Desille started to get a bad feeling, [[ What do you mean you can't go... Where exactly are you, Doryth? ]]  She received a mental image from the blue and the girl's mouth hung open, [[ What... how... why... DORYTH!  Get out of there right this instant! ]]

With waiting a moment more she took off at full speed, recognizing the craft hall from her visits to ther older brother Delowen, a smith.
