Kenzia took a deep breath and took the riders hand as she eyed the huge dragon in front of her.  Any dragon was huge at this point and she bit her lower lip then nodded to herself.  She could and would do this.  What was the worst thing that could happen? Well other than falling on her arse and injuring herself.  Yeah that could happen.  Tilting her head she reached up to start clambering up the dragon.  She had seen it done so in theroy she knew what she should be doing. "Umm I can't hurt him can I?" The last thing she wanted to do was make the brown dragon uncomfortable after all.

Kenzia broke the hormonal tension swirling through Ysolde, making her totally incapable of thinking beyond "handsome Rider" and she giggled. "Don't worry, I'm sure that I'll be the prime example of getting it wrong. I'll definitely wait until you're up and settled."

With the decision made, B'nnet moved alongside Verizoth's forelimb and held out his hand to Kenzia. "Feel free to grab on if you're a bit unsteady. Faranth knows dragons don't exact come with grab handles equipped." He tossed her a playful wink. "And please don't think you have to rush, end of the day we've got a good few days to see this thing through."

Kenzia wasn't the only one with blushing cheeks and Ysolde found herself giggling coyly. The brownrider was very handsome and his brown was such an unusual shade of brown that she couldn't help but stare at him. Already her juvenile mind was conjuring up fantasies of flying away into the sunset with this rider and his dragon that was the perfect shade of amber brown, a perfect match for a jewelcrafter's daughter....

Snapping herself out of it as Kenzia spoke, Ysolde's red cheeks became darker. "Uhm... I don't really know either..." she admitted after several long seconds. With a light hearted smile, B'nnet came to the rescue. "Never fear young ladies, we all have to climb a dragon for the first time. Verizoth will get himself nice and low, then you just need to climb up onto his extended forearm."

As if on cue, the brown hunkered down, almost flattening himself against the ground with one limb stretched out. "Now then," B'nnet said, "Are we going to flip a mark or is someone going to volunteer?"

Because I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to mounting a dragon." She confided to the other candidate.

IC: "Nope!" Ysolde said cheerily as she began to lead the way towards a brownrider she had spotted was yet to be laden with adventurers. "Lets try this one!" Plus his dragon, with its strange shade of golden brown and peculiarly long headknobs didn't seem to be as huge as some of the others and that was still a comfort. Ysolde was still getting used to the idea of being so close to dragons. It was one thing to see them as specks in the sky, but something else to see them dwarfing the space in front of you.

B'nnet spotted the two Candidates approaching him and affected a sweeping bow as they arrived. "M'ladies," he crooned, smooth as butter. He had been looking forward to mingling with the Candidates and Verizoth had been too. It took him back to good memories of his own Candidacy, with some exceptions. "Brownrider B'nnet at your service, ferryman and general lackey to cater to your every whim."

Behind him, Verizoth let out a rumble that sounded a lot like a chuckle and turned his head towards Ysolde and Kenzia, his eyes whirling a bright shade of happy blue at them both.

"I've never been on a dragon before, I'm not sure if I'm excited, terrified... or a bit of both!" She giggled and there was definitely a slight nervous pitch to it.

Never the less, it was a relief for someone to have answered her literal call and she smiled in relief. "I'm Ysolde," she said, swinging her bag up onto her shoulder. "You're the first, which means by my reckoning, you get first dibs."

Not to  mention, that just wouldn't be any fun at all.

Finding the gathered troops, flanked by various seniors, Crafters and Candidatemasters, Ysolde decided to be brave and just go for it. Cupping her hands around her mouth, she shouted over the group. "Anyone want to team up and go searching together?"

She had no idea what they were even meant to be looking for but maybe the Healers would fill them in on that. She had heard someone say something about numbweed and other plants that the Healers use, but her knowledge about plants was about as comprehensive as fresh snow before someone walked on it. When she had told her father that she had signed up to go on this exploration to the ruins with the Healers, he had been less than enamoured with the idea.Even less so when he decided that the Candidates were going to be allowed to practically run riot. Not true, of course, but that was fatherly paranoia for you.

Eventually, after sending a stern letter to Nayari enquiring about the matter, Ysolde had been given his blessings to go. Sort of. But only under strict instructions that she was to find a buddy and that she wasn't going to be going ANYWHERE without them. But it was a compromise at least. After the lecture about keeping covered up, carrying plenty of water and wearing a hat.

The afternoon before they were supposed to set off, Ysolde set up a notice on the main message board at the front of the Barracks. There was no way that it wasn't going to  be seen by at least someone, you had to pass it every time you left the Barracks.

Looking for an adventurer!
Are you joining the Healer hunt?
Looking for someone to stick with?
Meet me here after breakfast tomorrow!

No, it wasn't exactly award winning prose, but hopefully it would catch someone's eye. Truth be told, the more she thought on it, the more she thought that having someone to go with was probably the best thing to do. Didn't someone mention a wher attack the last time?

So there she was after breakfast, her bag packed with all the essential supplies she could think of, waiting nervously by her notice. Well, if push came to shove, she would just join the group and hope for the best, but hopefully it wouldn't come to that.

Dekel gave a small smile at the 'again' if it was deserved.  It was growing spurts, he was sure of it.  He would stop soon and then he would be all graceful and stuff he was sure of it.  He followed Cremsden quietly, concentrating on where he was putting his feet, "I'm sorry, it's not that bad though." The problem with having a green lake was that dragons needed to get cleaned and riders didn't always have the time to find a place outside the Weyr to do it. Normally this would have been the riders' fault, but sometimes people were due to visit other Weyrs, Holds, or go out on Search and they didn't have time to wash their dragons. Enough people complained to Kassia that she had to do something about it. Cleaning up the lake wasn't an option, but getting the riders some help was.

She sent word down to T'rif and he passed word onto the Candidates by word-of-mouth and flier that every Candidate was required to help bathe dragons. Anyone who helped would be given a token that could be exchanged for 1/32 mark. The more dragons bathed, the more marks a Candidate could make. Of course that wasn't to say there wouldn't be some unscrupulous riders that would try to get their dragon bathed and not be one of the people that had tokens to give out.

OOC: People feel free to have dragons who need bathed (the rider may or may not have a reason to have tokens to give out), Candidates to help bathe, or someone wanting to bug T'rif.

Weird news (attn Jerronila / Ishkana)

Lindsay

Ishkana had settled in well at the Weyr and was learning new things every day as part of her healer training. Other things though, they were a bit... well screwy would be one way to describe them. And she only had one person she could confide in about this.

Muttering to herself she moved from one classroom to another, hunting her cousin. Faranth knew where Jerronila might be! But Kani had to talk to *someone* and that someone *had* to be Jerronila...

"Yes a flit. We would eventually need to get you one. They can be very helpful." he said with a smile. He would have to take her up and show her around on the odd chance that she wanted to spend time with him....

Following the line of his arm, the girl orientated herself with the bits of the Weyr that she knew and nodded. "I'll find you, I think."

At F'gan's next comment Ishkana gawped at him. "A flit? You mean, a firelizard?" She knew that they existed, having seen a couple around including Cremsden's blue, but she didn't actually know any herself.

Stakarth hadn't been aware that it was becoming a contest, but a wave contest? That sounded like fun to her. And certainly wasn't approaching the line of being a proper little green lady.  ((I can do better. But you first!))

You call that a wave? Awsonth drawled as Stakarth made a small one. He checked that T'od wasn't paying him any attention before raising himself up, ready to flop down in the water.

T'od grinned at Teyra. "Well hello there, fair lady," he said, "Who would have guessed you were blonde under all that mud?" And cute. But he didn't say that aloud, although the expression in his eyes indicated he approved of what he saw.

The tone of the blue flits scolding changed as the strange man went nearer to his pet. But he didn't dive bomb or anything like that. Lali flipped his wings closed over his back. As if trying to get the last word about the subject.

Teyra closed her eyes, ignoring the scolds. She wasn't a little girl anymore, and sometimes Lali didn't seem to realize that. But he was a good flit, and well trained other than his scolding. She swam a little closer, she was good at treading water, she had gotten used to it a long time ago as she'd always been pretty slight, and when others were still on the sand, she was not.

Stakarth, well she had no such reservations and splashed right into the lake. Proud as could be. Once she was mostly submerged, a smallish blue flit appeared above the pair, chittering at both of them in a most disapproving fashion. If a dragon could be said to roll her eyes, the skinny little green did so. She ducked her head under the water and blew air out as bubbles at the scolding blue.

Teyra, who actually could, did roll her eyes, then looked over at T'od. "Yea they have all kinds of scents, even some kinda piney ones. And don't mind Lali, he's been my protector for ages and doesn't much like when Stakarth and I go getting all dirty."

Awsonth was happy to follow, although he knew that if he started splashing about there would be some very wet people due to his size. That would be inconsiderate of him, to say the least.

Teyra grinned a little and waved towards the lake. "Come on then Stakarth let's get you rinsed shall we?"

The spry little green raised her head high, not the least bit ashamed of her mud, and walked into the water with high splashy steps. ((Oh as long as I want, or as long as I am allowed. They aren't always the same, you can come join me if you want.))

You never itch afterwards? The bronze's mindtone was thoughtful. It definitely sounded like it had exfoliating or moisturising effects. I will ask my rider to take us there sometime. Awsonth looked Stakarth over carefully. It is possible that such deep, fine silt is extremely good for the hide. Softening and cleansing properties, perhaps. I believe that there are some ladies who would want to try it for themselves. Will you show me pictures of where it was?

"Shards, but that one was stuck!" Only then did she seem to notice the bronze pair landing nearby. She sat up, wiping a grimy hand across her forehead and gave him a bashful smile.

"Uh sorry about that, yes it is a lovely day..." Teyra would have continued, perhaps appologising for their appearance, but Stakarth took up the conversation, ((Yes it is, it was a lovely day, and I found mud. It feels so nice on my hide.))

T'od couldn't fault his logic, which was no surprise,so he agreed and the pair winged their way down to the lake. One of their preferred spots was already taken by a number of splashing and cavorting young dragons, so they went a little further than normal. Coming down by a green pair, whose names T'od wasn't sure of, he waved anyway as he removed Awsonth's harness.

"Lovely day for it, isn't it?" he called across to the green's rider.

Dekel couldn’t help but jump a little as the voice came to him.  “Oh Sir.  No he sent me here.” Dekel flushed and held his arm out. “I hurt my arm, I don’t think it’s serious or anything but I’m not a healer and he wanted to make sure.”  He flushed again because he had probably strained his wrist when he had tired to reach for something he really shouldn’t have.

The problem with being a Healer apprentice is that when you were actually injured people still assumed you were there to do your job. Dekel might be DragonHealer rather than Healer but he was still familiar enough for Cremsden to glance twice at him as he went to see how the queue looked.

“You didn’t get searched by a dragon and flown here?” Kenzia asked then laughed at herself, “I mean I didn’t, I was at a gather.” She rolled her eyes as she said it, “I can’t believe dragons still search during that time.”  She shrugged her shoulders but pulled her own knapsack up and nodded.  “Let’s go find a dragon.”  She said as she went the line.  She wasn’t going to put her hat on yet as she wasn’t sure if it would get blown off by the flight.

Ooc: I’ll leave the dragonrider up to you if that’s okay?

"Not a clue!" Ysolde replied cheerily, "And it's a pleasure to meet you too." She was very much looking forward to this now that the uncertainty of company had been brushed aside. Adjusting the almost hilariously huge hat she was wearing, she pulled her knapsack onto her shoulders. "I think we're getting taken there on dragons!" she exclaimed excitedly. "I've never been on a dragon before, I'm not sure if I'm excited, terrified... or a bit of both!" She giggled and there was definitely a slight nervous pitch to it.

"Have you got everything you need? If so, we can go and join the ones waiting to mount up."

Kenzia let out the soft breath she didn’t even know she was holding.  Smiling suddenly she inclined her head in acknowledgment, “I’m Kenzia, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”  Tucking some loose hair behind her ear she grinned fully then, “this is going to be fun.”  She hoped anyway, if she could keep her perfection tendencies to herself for a time.  “Do you know what we are meant to be looking for?”

She didn't want to get her hopes up when she saw the girl making her way towards her. Ysolde didn't even realise she was holding her breath until she let it out in a whoosh of air. It was reassuring to see that the girl looked about as awkward as she felt. This went against her principles on so many levels. Normally, she preferred to sit in the corner, quietly feeling everyone out and then making a decision from there. This felt much too.. disorganised.

Never the less, it was a relief for someone to have answered her literal call and she smiled in relief. "I'm Ysolde," she said, swinging her bag up onto her shoulder. "You're the first, which means by my reckoning, you get first dibs."

Kenzia heard the other girl yell an tilted her head.  She had no idea why she was even here but she had decided maybe she needed to get out and met more people.  Pushing through the throng until she saw the female candidate she gave a little smile to her. “Umm sure if you no one else has come over yet?”  It was almost shy the smile she gave her. She didn’t want to push her way in but she also knew that if she didn’t get out more she was going to end up much more lonely than she was now.  She needed friends and this was one way to do it right?

When no one replied directly to her post, Ysolde tried to quell the disappointment and told herself that people probably just hadn't been paying attention. Instead, she trotted along to the main meeting point. She really wanted to go out on this adventure but at the same time, didn't want to lie to her father and go out on her own.

In other words, blanker than a new slate.

OoC: Set the morning of the hunt. Note, Ysolde is signed up to find the pseudo impression weed :P

-
No, it wasn't exactly award winning prose, but hopefully it would catch someone's eye.

Eldvyr eyed tiny blue hellion warily. "If he knows not to bite normally, then he also understands that it is not acceptable behavior. Ergo he really is just biting you to be ornery." He observed acerbically. He'd never really understood the appeal of pet ownership himself. Why lavish time and effort on a creature with which one could not even have an intelligent conversation? Still, he acknowledged that other people did form emotional attachments to their pets, and sometimes that can be very useful.

"Is this...what did you call him again? Is this the first time you've had a pet?" He asked.

"Oh, they can," Cremsden agreed. "And from what I understand he swears at them sharding well when he's in the mood to." He clicked his tongue at the annoyed little blue and offered him his uninjured hand. Still muttering to himself Bitey grumbled his way towards it and scrambled heavily up Cremsden's arm.

"When he started it was all fear and fury," Cremsden explained. "Wasn't it, lad? And we sorted that with time, and a bit of help from one of the Impressed gold firelizards, and that part's resolved well enough. Now it's just when he gets pissed off - and there isn't any amount of explaining and communication that fixes pissed off." And apparently even when bitten, Cremsden was inclined to cool down about it fast enough that there was no reason for him to stop.

{{No?}} Razelth asked, her mental tones cheery and not at offended as she leaned forward for another look. {{I suppose not. Perhaps it can be a fish as well. A very large fish.}} She reached out a claw and sliced the large blob down the middle, forming two smaller blob. {{Or two sibling fishes.}} She amended cheerfully.

{{You should give it a try, too.}} She urged Foreth. {{See if you can make a fish as well.}}

((I don't think that looks much like a dragon,)) Foreth replied overly honestly. No being diplomatic, though she wasn't rude about it. Just matter-of-fact.

She peered at the other blob. ((That could be a fish, I guess.))

Aoede accepted the treat as if she thought it no more than her due, but afterwards unbent to enough to chirp her thanks.

"That's a fair point. Duly noted." Delysia replied, her eyes still on Brogan. "Any advice you can give on training or taking care of a wher?" She asked the older woman.

Kassia noted the flit with a laugh. "I guess it's nice to have at least someone who doesn't care what my title is." She produced a treat from the pouch she kept on hand for Brogan's sake and held it out to the self-assured gold.

"A brown would be a good choice," she went on. "Less likely to set off Brogan, too." It was just a reality that the whers would be in close contact quite often. That the whers got along would be important.

Re: #green Something So Disgustified Attn Foreth #green

It might not seem feasible, but Foreth was about to test that. She was a bit irritable, or rather more so than normal, at having to be all green. The arrival of one of her least favorite dragons looking all pristine clean and not green was a bit too much.

Very quietly, she made her way to the edge of the lake closest to the bronze and then suddenly surged forward in the water, flinging green this way and that. She flapped her wings and flicked her tail, too. All an attempt to mar his pretty bronze hide.

Sarati smiled at him. It was nice when people didn't recognize her straight off. Ever since she got handfasted, she'd come to appreciate why her mom went out in a disguise and tried to just meet people as if she was no one important.

"I can manage her myself, but if you're bored and want to help I wouldn't mind the company." She started to slowly ease open the door to the stall. "Flame and I usually have an understanding."

All in all, Nekaer ought to have recognized her straight away, but he never was one to let ‘ought to’ get in the way of what was. If he had grown up at Arolos, no doubt, he would have placed her immediately. But as it was, they had not been Candidates at the same time long enough for him to have absolutely no excuse for not immediately knowing her.

At least, that would be his excuse.

"I'm technically done here," said Nekaer. "At least, as long as the stablehands sign off that it's good enough, anyway." He tilted his head for a moment, only for the first time considering that he might have seen her before somewhere.

Nekaer smiled and said, "Either way, I could never pass up the opportunity to keep you company."
