Re: I have a question (attn F'gan / Ishkana)

Following the line of his arm, the girl orientated herself with the bits of the Weyr that she knew and nodded. "I'll find you, I think."

At F'gan's next comment Ishkana gawped at him. "A flit? You mean, a firelizard?" She knew that they existed, having seen a couple around including Cremsden's blue, but she didn't actually know any herself.

(ooc: and that's a perfect idea for another thread!)

F'gan thought for a moment. "Well I am up quite early. So you will likely catch me here or having breakfast." He let out a soft chuckle. "I think it's time that I looked into finding a flit."

Re: Bath time (attn Teyra / T'od)

"Well now she has!" T'od grinned at Teyra. "I feel I should say sorry for my dragon possibly starting a bad habit in yours..." he paused then chuckled, "But as I didn't tell him to do it you can blame him as much as you like!"

Awsonth rumbled softly. ((I probably should not, if you don't mind.)) he said sadly to Stakarth, ((I have to be careful not to strain my back legs and I am not light. But I will watch you do it!))

Of course now that the silly green dragon had tried it, she was likely to continue doing it off and on at bathtime. As the petite young woman came out of the water she turned her head to the side and twisted her hair, trying to get as much water from it as she could.

Stakarth barely waited until the humans were clear, before standing up on her back legs, holding her upper body clear of the water, before letting it drop back down suddenly. ((There, try that, it was fun.))

Teyra, being short, was fairly used to not touching the bottom of the lake and simply laughed and rode the wave out as much as she could, then the responding one from Stakarth.

Stakarth, turned to look at the two small humans, snorted once then sank herself down into the water, shedding a whole chunk of mud from her side as she did so.

"At least it's washing her off.." Teyra giggled.

Without another sound he dropped his full weight back into the water, sending a large wave towards the unsuspecting riders. ((There!)) he sent to Stakarth. ((Now it's your turn!))

Stakarth hadn't been aware that it was becoming a contest, but a wave contest? That sounded like fun to her. And certainly wasn't approaching the line of being a proper little green lady.  ((I can do better. But you first!))

Lali flipped his wings closed over his back. As if trying to get the last word about the subject.

Teyra closed her eyes, ignoring the scolds. She wasn't a little girl anymore, and sometimes Lali didn't seem to realize that. But he was a good flit, and well trained other than his scolding. She swam a little closer, she was good at treading water, she had gotten used to it a long time ago as she'd always been pretty slight, and when others were still on the sand, she was not.

Stakarth, well she had no such reservations and splashed right into the lake. Proud as could be. Once she was mostly submerged, a smallish blue flit appeared above the pair, chittering at both of them in a most disapproving fashion. If a dragon could be said to roll her eyes, the skinny little green did so. She ducked her head under the water and blew air out as bubbles at the scolding blue.

Teyra, who actually could, did roll her eyes, then looked over at T'od. "Yea they have all kinds of scents, even some kinda piney ones. And don't mind Lali, he's been my protector for ages and doesn't much like when Stakarth and I go getting all dirty."

Awsonth was happy to follow, although he knew that if he started splashing about there would be some very wet people due to his size. That would be inconsiderate of him, to say the least.

The spry little green raised her head high, not the least bit ashamed of her mud, and walked into the water with high splashy steps. ((Oh as long as I want, or as long as I am allowed. They aren't always the same, you can come join me if you want.))

You never itch afterwards? The bronze's mindtone was thoughtful. It definitely sounded like it had exfoliating or moisturising effects. I will ask my rider to take us there sometime. Awsonth looked Stakarth over carefully. It is possible that such deep, fine silt is extremely good for the hide. Softening and cleansing properties, perhaps. I believe that there are some ladies who would want to try it for themselves. Will you show me pictures of where it was?

T'od couldn't fault his logic, which was no surprise,so he agreed and the pair winged their way down to the lake. One of their preferred spots was already taken by a number of splashing and cavorting young dragons, so they went a little further than normal. Coming down by a green pair, whose names T'od wasn't sure of, he waved anyway as he removed Awsonth's harness.

"Lovely day for it, isn't it?" he called across to the green's rider.

Kenzia broke the hormonal tension swirling through Ysolde, making her totally incapable of thinking beyond "handsome Rider" and she giggled. "Don't worry, I'm sure that I'll be the prime example of getting it wrong. I'll definitely wait until you're up and settled."

With the decision made, B'nnet moved alongside Verizoth's forelimb and held out his hand to Kenzia. "Feel free to grab on if you're a bit unsteady. Faranth knows dragons don't exact come with grab handles equipped." He tossed her a playful wink. Snapping herself out of it as Kenzia spoke, Ysolde's red cheeks became darker. "Uhm... I don't really know either..." she admitted after several long seconds. With a light hearted smile, B'nnet came to the rescue. "Never fear young ladies, we all have to climb a dragon for the first time. Verizoth will get himself nice and low, then you just need to climb up onto his extended forearm."

As if on cue, the brown hunkered down, almost flattening himself against the ground with one limb stretched out. "Now then," B'nnet said, "Are we going to flip a mark or is someone going to volunteer?"

Plus his dragon, with its strange shade of golden brown and peculiarly long headknobs didn't seem to be as huge as some of the others and that was still a comfort. Ysolde was still getting used to the idea of being so close to dragons. It was one thing to see them as specks in the sky, but something else to see them dwarfing the space in front of you.

B'nnet spotted the two Candidates approaching him and affected a sweeping bow as they arrived. "M'ladies," he crooned, smooth as butter. He had been looking forward to mingling with the Candidates and Verizoth had been too. It took him back to good memories of his own Candidacy, with some exceptions. "Brownrider B'nnet at your service, ferryman and general lackey to cater to your every whim."

Not true, of course, but that was fatherly paranoia for you.

Eventually, after sending a stern letter to Nayari enquiring about the matter, Ysolde had been given his blessings to go. Sort of. But only under strict instructions that she was to find a buddy and that she wasn't going to be going ANYWHERE without them. But it was a compromise at least. After the lecture about keeping covered up, carrying plenty of water and wearing a hat.

The afternoon before they were supposed to set off, Ysolde set up a notice on the main message board at the front of the Barracks. There was no way that it wasn't going to  be seen by at least someone, you had to pass it every time you left the Barracks.

Looking for someone to stick with?
Meet me here after breakfast tomorrow!

No, it wasn't exactly award winning prose, but hopefully it would catch someone's eye. Truth be told, the more she thought on it, the more she thought that having someone to go with was probably the best thing to do. Didn't someone mention a wher attack the last time?

So there she was after breakfast, her bag packed with all the essential supplies she could think of, waiting nervously by her notice. Well, if push came to shove, she would just join the group and hope for the best, but hopefully it wouldn't come to that.

Dekel couldn’t help but jump a little as the voice came to him.  “Oh Sir.  No he sent me here.” Dekel flushed and held his arm out. “I hurt my arm, I don’t think it’s serious or anything but I’m not a healer and he wanted to make sure.”  He flushed again because he had probably strained his wrist when he had tired to reach for something he really shouldn’t have.

Taking a seat the fifteen turn sighed as he sat there, trying to not move too much.

The problem with being a Healer apprentice is that when you were actually injured people still assumed you were there to do your job. Dekel might be DragonHealer rather than Healer but he was still familiar enough for Cremsden to glance twice at him as he went to see how the queue looked.

"You'll be in hot water if Master Larsin catches you sitting down," he observed. "They're busy today."

“Thank you Verizoth.”  Kenzia said as she moved towards the foreleg.  She heisted for a moment but looked back at Ysolde to make sure the other woman didn’t want to go up first.  She was happy to embarrass herself and really she had to get used to this if she wanted to be a dragonrider.  “I can go I don’t mind.”  She grinned.  “I am happy to show you how NOT to do it.”  She laughed as she said it.  Sure she liked everything to be perfect but in truth she knew that she was going to do dumb things even as she matured.

Already her juvenile mind was conjuring up fantasies of flying away into the sunset with this rider and his dragon that was the perfect shade of amber brown, a perfect match for a jewelcrafter's daughter....

Behind him, Verizoth let out a rumble that sounded a lot like a chuckle and turned his head towards Ysolde and Kenzia, his eyes whirling a bright shade of happy blue at them both.

Finding the gathered troops, flanked by various seniors, Crafters and Candidatemasters, Ysolde decided to be brave and just go for it. Cupping her hands around her mouth, she shouted over the group. "Anyone want to team up and go searching together?"

She had no idea what they were even meant to be looking for but maybe the Healers would fill them in on that.

Eldvyr eyed tiny blue hellion warily. "If he knows not to bite normally, then he also understands that it is not acceptable behavior. Ergo he really is just biting you to be ornery." He observed acerbically. He'd never really understood the appeal of pet ownership himself. Why lavish time and effort on a creature with which one could not even have an intelligent conversation? Still, he acknowledged that other people did form emotional attachments to their pets, and sometimes that can be very useful.

"Is this...what did you call him again? Is this the first time you've had a pet?" He asked.

And we sorted that with time, and a bit of help from one of the Impressed gold firelizards, and that part's resolved well enough. Now it's just when he gets pissed off - and there isn't any amount of explaining and communication that fixes pissed off." And apparently even when bitten, Cremsden was inclined to cool down about it fast enough that there was no reason for him to stop.

It might not seem feasible, but Foreth was about to test that. She was a bit irritable, or rather more so than normal, at having to be all green. The arrival of one of her least favorite dragons looking all pristine clean and not green was a bit too much.

Very quietly, she made her way to the edge of the lake closest to the bronze and then suddenly surged forward in the water, flinging green this way and that. She flapped her wings and flicked her tail, too. All an attempt to mar his pretty bronze hide.

All in all, Nekaer ought to have recognized her straight away, but he never was one to let ‘ought to’ get in the way of what was. If he had grown up at Arolos, no doubt, he would have placed her immediately. But as it was, they had not been Candidates at the same time long enough for him to have absolutely no excuse for not immediately knowing her.

At least, that would be his excuse.

"I'm technically done here," said Nekaer. "At least, as long as the stablehands sign off that it's good enough, anyway." He tilted his head for a moment, only for the first time considering that he might have seen her before somewhere.

Nekaer smiled and said, "Either way, I could never pass up the opportunity to keep you company."

Nerenth had, of course, heard that the fish were to be found in the lake, in huge schools that were just waiting to be caught and eaten. And of course, being that he was always so in need of a bath to get the dust off his hide, he decided that killing two wherries with one bite was a *very good idea*. And so, into the lake he went, not having heard or seen yet the effect it was having on the other fishing dragons.

Of course, he had to contend with others who were fishing and bathing as well, including the gold Foreth. But the fish were so abundant that there should be plenty for everyone, even a horde of hungry dragons, right?

#green Something So Disgustified Attn Foreth #green

Laura Walker

Of course, dragons didn't necessarily *have* to go in the water. They could choose to forgo a bath for a few days. Or, as Ardeth had only an hour or so ago, they could fly that bit further and bathe in the sea.

He had returned; clean, scrubbed, oiled and -- happily -- not green. Feeling pleased with this state of affairs the old bronze settled for a nap, far enough back from the Lake that even getting splashed didn't seem like a feasible possibility.

It takes Green to Make Marks atten: Candies/Riders/T'rif

sailyn2

The problem with having a green lake was that dragons needed to get cleaned and riders didn't always have the time to find a place outside the Weyr to do it. Normally this would have been the riders' fault, but sometimes people were due to visit other Weyrs, Holds, or go out on Search and they didn't have time to wash their dragons. Enough people complained to Kassia that she had to do something about it. Cleaning up the lake wasn't an option, but getting the riders some help was.

She sent word down to T'rif and he passed word onto the Candidates by word-of-mouth and flier that every Candidate was required to help bathe dragons. Anyone who helped would be given a token that could be exchanged for 1/32 mark. The more dragons bathed, the more marks a Candidate could make. Of course that wasn't to say there wouldn't be some unscrupulous riders that would try to get their dragon bathed and not be one of the people that had tokens to give out.

OOC: People feel free to have dragons who need bathed (the rider may or may not have a reason to have tokens to give out), Candidates to help bathe, or someone wanting to bug T'rif.

It wasn't the green putting Kel off so much as it was the water itself.
