Re: A Cozy Little Chat (attn: Eldvyr, Cremsden)

"Food, fine, the bed, *fine*, but those cost too much sharding money for you to feck around with.." Cremsden snarled at the blue firelizard, and Bitey opened his mouth just enough to shriek back in much the same annoyed tone.

Which was apparently what Cremsden had been waiting for as he hastily took advantage of that moment to snatch the card back while the blue didn't have tight hold of it. It got him a sharp bite for his troubles but he could live with that, swapping the card to his uninjured hand to prevent the risk of getting blood on it and quickly covering the others before Bitey could get near them. The blue firelizard threw what could best be described as a screaming tantrum while Cremsden sucked his injured finger, grimacing.

"If he had two good wings, I'd have no chance," he admitted, eyes still on the firelizard rather than Eldvyr. "Sorry, what was it you wanted?" Apparently Bitey was enough distraction for him to forget his usual wariness.

"How did he lose the wing?" Eldvyr asked, evading the question for the moment, but with not entirely feigned curiosity. He was no dragonhealer, but it didn't looked to be a thread-induced injury. And as far as he knew, there weren't very many predators fast enough to catch a firelizard.

Tareg’s hand reaches out to grab two meat rolls, one slipping up his sleeve while the other was nibbles on. He eyed the pair suspiciously. It wasn’t like he could run, so he may as well just put up with whatever they were going to do.
He stayed could tight, his whole body tense- which did nothing to make his ankle any less sore.

The lad looked tense as if ready to flee at a moment's notice and Ishkana wanted to reassure him a little but wasn't entirely sure how. She dragged over a small table and placed it next to Tareg, putting the plate of meatrolls on it and standing the other side; facing towards Cremsden as if she was aligning herself with the young man.

"It's fine, it's fine, I poke something that hurts I expect--" Cremsden's voice was a reassuring murmur until he finally glanced up and caught sight of the scissors. For a moment he stopped, hands stilling on Tareg's ankle.

"Put those down, there's a good lad," he said, voice very calm. "Next to you is fine, where you can reach 'em is fine, but you wave anything sharp around when I'm setting off your reflexes like this and you're as liable to hurt yourself as someone else."

Blackadder: I mean, what about the people that do all the work?

Kenzia could not stop the bright blush that spread across her cheeks at his word even if she tried.  "A pleasure to meet you Sir.  He is beautiful, your dragon." She said with her eyes widened at the sight of him.  She hadn't been around that many dragons and he was such a unique shade of brown.  She needed to sketch him one day if she could ever find him again.  She smiled and looked back at Ysolde then waved her forward, "do you want to go first? Because I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to mounting a dragon." She confided to the other candidate.

IC: "Nope!" Ysolde said cheerily as she began to lead the way towards a brownrider she had spotted was yet to be laden with adventurers. "Lets try this one!" Plus his dragon, with its strange shade of golden brown and peculiarly long headknobs didn't seem to be as huge as some of the others and that was still a comfort. Ysolde was still getting used to the idea of being so close to dragons. It was one thing to see them as specks in the sky, but something else to see them dwarfing the space in front of you.

B'nnet spotted the two Candidates approaching him and affected a sweeping bow as they arrived. "M'ladies," he crooned, smooth as butter. He had been looking forward to mingling with the Candidates and Verizoth had been too. It took him back to good memories of his own Candidacy, with some exceptions. "Brownrider B'nnet at your service, ferryman and general lackey to cater to your every whim."

Behind him, Verizoth let out a rumble that sounded a lot like a chuckle and turned his head towards Ysolde and Kenzia, his eyes whirling a bright shade of happy blue at them both.

Ooc: I’ll leave the dragonrider up to you if that’s okay?

"I've never been on a dragon before, I'm not sure if I'm excited, terrified... or a bit of both!" She giggled and there was definitely a slight nervous pitch to it.

Normally, she preferred to sit in the corner, quietly feeling everyone out and then making a decision from there. This felt much too.. disorganised.

Never the less, it was a relief for someone to have answered her literal call and she smiled in relief. "I'm Ysolde," she said, swinging her bag up onto her shoulder. "You're the first, which means by my reckoning, you get first dibs."

Not to  mention, that just wouldn't be any fun at all.

Finding the gathered troops, flanked by various seniors, Crafters and Candidatemasters, Ysolde decided to be brave and just go for it. Cupping her hands around her mouth, she shouted over the group. "Anyone want to team up and go searching together?"

She had no idea what they were even meant to be looking for but maybe the Healers would fill them in on that. She had heard someone say something about numbweed and other plants that the Healers use, but her knowledge about plants was about as comprehensive as fresh snow before someone walked on it. Not true, of course, but that was fatherly paranoia for you.

Eventually, after sending a stern letter to Nayari enquiring about the matter, Ysolde had been given his blessings to go. Sort of. But only under strict instructions that she was to find a buddy and that she wasn't going to be going ANYWHERE without them. But it was a compromise at least. After the lecture about keeping covered up, carrying plenty of water and wearing a hat.

The afternoon before they were supposed to set off, Ysolde set up a notice on the main message board at the front of the Barracks. There was no way that it wasn't going to  be seen by at least someone, you had to pass it every time you left the Barracks.

Looking for an adventurer!
Are you joining the Healer hunt?
Looking for someone to stick with?
Meet me here after breakfast tomorrow!

No, it wasn't exactly award winning prose, but hopefully it would catch someone's eye. Truth be told, the more she thought on it, the more she thought that having someone to go with was probably the best thing to do. Didn't someone mention a wher attack the last time?

So there she was after breakfast, her bag packed with all the essential supplies she could think of, waiting nervously by her notice. Well, if push came to shove, she would just join the group and hope for the best, but hopefully it wouldn't come to that.

Ishi waited until he had gotten his food before she replied.  She knew better than to come between anyone and their stomach.  "It must be very rewarding, shaping the young riders." She frowned slighly as she played with her food before taking a bite.  "What do you do if there are no baby dragons?" Tilting her head to show that she was indeed interested in his answer.  T'od was intelligent and funny, a combination that she could see herself getting along with and Ishi was in dire need of friends at the Weyr.  "I haven't been here that long but even I have heard people talking about the Golds only rising recently?" She had no idea how that worked but she knew Gold flights could be...interesting.

He watched as she fetched herself some things to eat then chuckled at her instruction. "Yes ma'am. And I'm not one of the snippy bronzeriders that insist on being called sir all the time, unless it's one of the youngsters. You're welcome to call me T'od."

OoC: Not a problem!

"Have you got everything you need? If so, we can go and join the ones waiting to mount up."

When she had told her father that she had signed up to go on this exploration to the ruins with the Healers, he had been less than enamoured with the idea.Even less so when he decided that the Candidates were going to be allowed to practically run riot.

It was tidy -- the sort of obsessive tidy that came from sharing your home with a number of firelizards. Cremsden had learned fast that anything he liked would only survive if it wasn't accessible and had invested in a number of wooden boxes, the type that locked.

There was a glass of red wine on the table though, and cards laid out there in two piles. And a one-winged blue firelizard just stepping close enough to carefully swipe the top card from one pile.

Well, it got Cremsden away from the door at least, and almost sprinting back to the table. "Oh no no no, don't you fecking *dare*.."

~~~~~
For a moment, Eldvyr thought that the comment had been addressed towards him, and a scathing retort rose up to his lips. But just in time, he caught sight of the true target of Cremsden's ire and snapped his mouth shut.
He ventured a few steps farther into the weyr - enough to allow him an uninterrupted view of the enfolding drama on the table. Crossing his arms, he leaned back against a nearby wall and got ready to observe.
"Food, fine, the bed, *fine*, but those cost too much sharding money for you to feck around with.." Cremsden snarled at the blue firelizard, and Bitey opened his mouth just enough to shriek back in much the same annoyed tone.
Which was apparently what Cremsden had been waiting for as he hastily took advantage of that moment to snatch the card back while the blue didn't have tight hold of it. It got him a sharp bite for his troubles but he could live with that, swapping the card to his uninjured hand to prevent the risk of getting blood on it and quickly covering the others before Bitey could get near them. The blue firelizard threw what could best be described as a screaming tantrum while Cremsden sucked his injured finger, grimacing.
"If he had two good wings, I'd have no chance," he admitted, eyes still on the firelizard rather than Eldvyr. "Sorry, what was it you wanted?" Apparently Bitey was enough distraction for him to forget his usual wariness.
"Sadly, I've been aware of that for years," Kassia replied with some sympathy. "I'll save you from that pain for a little while today, anyway."
The sympathy melted away for a friendly smile. "I'll have Foreth give the image of the right place and have her kick out anyone there so we can have some peace. It's over near the water fall." Kassia felt no guilt for sending anyone enjoying their time there away. Sometimes she just had to use the Weyrwoman's prerogative or she'd never get some personal time. Plus, though she'd never admit it to most people out loud, it was a chance to give the Queen an appropriate outlet for her more dominant, bossy tendencies. "Let's go pick up a picnic basket first."
"Well, I find myself learning all sort of new and..." Interesting wasn't quite the word for it. "...varied things." Delysia replied dryly as she fell into step beside Kassia. "But yes, a picnic by the waterfall sounds just the thing." She added, with feeling. It was a popular spot, she knew. Being a goldrider did have a few nice perks.
The pair of guards who'd been on duty at the door fell into step behind the two goldriders, close enough to keep the women in sight, but far enough back to afford them a semblance of privacy. Delysia glanced thoughtfully at the bronze wher paddling along by Kassia's side. "You know - I've been considering getting a wher."
There was no noise coming from the practice room, therefore it was safe to assume it was empty. Therefore, in Peetah's mind, it was safe to assume it was his. People kept objecting if he just stayed in one room all day for some reason. It wasn't as though their twiddling had any value.
Violin under one arm he headed in and then paused, squinting at the unexpected light.
"What are you doing?" he demanded. "This is a music room!"
It was an open question whether Auraya was more startled by the fact of the young boy's abrupt entrance or the manner of it. For a moment, it was all she could do to blink in surprise at her unexpected intruder.
"I...ah..." She stammered, when she finally found her voice. "I...was told that this is a practice room?" There was a note of uncertainty in her voice. A hand strayed towards the apprentice knots at her shoulder. They were new enough still that she hadn't yet gotten out of the habit of fiddling with them, particular when she was stressed. "They...told me that I could use it as long as I sign up ahead of time." This came out a little more confidently.
"I've stood before, too," he said, eager to find that point of commonality - eager to talk about it, to talk to her, to stop thinking about her hands soothing his persistent, aching side, and maybe if she was wearing less clothing, or - was she? Wearing - she had been swimming, and he had to fight the impulse to look back at her to double check his memory of her wading out into the water. In his head, before he could stop himself, he very vividly pictured what she might look like naked - and then tried to think of something else instead. Maybe his father, or his mother, or something horrible like infirmary laundry duty after a bout of food poisoning.
He thumped his head against the ground and exhaled, closing his eyes, then continued - grateful that she was unaware of his mental turmoil, and that he was lying on his stomach still, "Don't really know what I'd do if I didn't Impress. I guess I just have to. And you, don't worry about it. You've impressed me, and I'm at least as smart as an egg." He paused for effect, grinning a bit at his own play on words, then opened an eye again. "I've got a secret weapon, if you want in."
His white flower, tucked away beneath his spare change of clothes, in the top drawer of his cotside table. He felt a little superstitious and exposed even just speaking about it.
T'od shook his head. "Can't take him anywhere..." he muttered, "Wash yourself then!" He threw over his shoulder as he waded to the edge. "When you've finished playing, I'll be here."
Noticing that Stakarth had less mud on her than before, he modded. "Well it saves you some work. What say you we sit over here and dry off a bit until they've finished playing shipfish, or whatever they're doing?"
Stakarth, turned to look at the two small humans, snorted once then sank herself down into the water, shedding a whole chunk of mud from her side as she did so.
Stakarth, well she had no such reservations and splashed right into the lake. Proud as could be. Once she was mostly submerged, a smallish blue flit appeared above the pair, chittering at both of them in a most disapproving fashion. If a dragon could be said to roll her eyes, the skinny little green did so. She ducked her head under the water and blew air out as bubbles at the scolding blue.
Teyra, who actually could, did roll her eyes, then looked over at T'od. "Yea they have all kinds of scents, even some kinda piney ones. And don't mind Lali, he's been my protector for ages and doesn't much like when Stakarth and I go getting all dirty."
T'od couldn't fault his logic, which was no surprise,so he agreed and the pair winged their way down to the lake. One of their preferred spots was already taken by a number of splashing and cavorting young dragons, so they went a little further than normal. Coming down by a green pair, whose names T'od wasn't sure of, he waved anyway as he removed Awsonth's harness.
"Lovely day for it, isn't it?" he called across to the green's rider.
Alyx was glad that Ardy was providing such a nice distraction. Thankfully massage was one of the things that she'd done extra studies in. Along with a fascination in skin disorders. Figuring out the way that the body was put together was so interesting to her. Knowing that if you push 'here' a patient will feel it 'there'. Knowing which way to push along a muscle to get it to relax, where the tendons were likely to bind up. But these were things you didn't really tell your patient unless you wanted to creep them out.
"I like it better upstairs too. Though this is likely the last Hatching I will stand for. If I stand for it. Then I guess I will move over to healer's barracks, or find someone to room with." She was always one to plan ahead, no matter which way fate led her.
When she touched him, Asheran tensed up - not because the salve was cold, or because he hadn't been expecting her hands, but because he had been, and he'd been so focused on the moment that it made him jump when it happened... and then he felt the muscles in his back and side twist up, threatening to cramp again. He exhaled through his nose, trying to pay attention to the sudden distraction that the flit provided. It got him smiling tightly again, at least.
"I was downstairs for awhile, but I moved upstairs after it started to get really crowded. Far side, right in the corner. Been there a... couple turns, now." He turned his head again, just slightly, enough to look back at her out of the corner of his eye. "Don't think anybody spends much time in the tannercraft hall when there's not hides to steep. Kinda stinks."
