Re: I'm not lost exactly (Ishixi/T'od)

Tilting her head she rolled her eyes, then listened with her head tilted to her side.  “Exactly what am I meant to be hearing other than the fact that you probably have rock hard abs…and you are hungry maybe?”  Ishi was so going to get herself in trouble here if she didn’t learn to shut her mouth.  She had a good bedside manner she really did but she also didn’t know when to shut her mouth and he was a bronzer.  Yep he was trouble.

Ok’lin looked at him curiously, “what hard way?”  Admittedly when he was younger and he had never gotten to really know the other riders, even the Weyrlings in his own hatching group, but as he got older he realised people were actually….interesting.  Each story was unique and he was enjoying puzzling it out.  Why not start with a friend?

Re: Even I can tell that's stupid, and I'm a novice! (Ysolde/Ishkana) @Lynn642

Ishkana glanced at the journeyman briefly before looking back at Ysolde. "I think," she said slowly, "You need to train yourself to always take precautions, no matter what you're doing. You already have permanent damage, but with this degree of sunburn you can make it worse and cause other things... correct me if I'm wrong mam?" She stopped so Maithera would know she was waiting on confirmation for what she'd said.

On Mon, 13 Aug 2018 at 11:16, Nutmeg <nutmeg.witch@...> wrote:
She wasn't surprised at the question, it seemed to be the most obvious one. It was also a fair question to ask. "Wasn't paying attention." she said simply at first. "It was my own fault, I didn't think I would be out as long as I was, so I didn't bother with the proper clothes or lotion. Then I got distracted and by the time I felt the burn it was too late, so I came straight here."

Ysolde was matter of fact about it and didn't display any signs of self pity. Later on, when the pain really set in, that would probably change a bit. She offered a sheepish smile at the other girl. "I do know better and I'm not always so scatter-brained. I just get distracted really easily if I'm concentrating on something."

Ishkana nodded as the healer gave her Ysolde's history, wincing slightly at the severity of the scarring - and sunburn on top? Ouch.

"Ysolde, can I ask, is there a reason why you didn't follow the advice and you got sunburned today?" Ishkana took the ointment and sniffed it, trying to identify other ingredients apart from numbweed.

On 8 August 2018 at 11:14, Nutmeg <nutmeg.witch@...> wrote:
"Of course," Maithera held back the cubicle curtain to let the apprentice come in. "Ysolde, I trust that's all right with you?"

Ysolde nodded, she was used to this and besides, it wasn't nosiness, it was professionalism. There was a difference. She waved at Ishkana, offering a small smile in return.

"Ysolde here hails from the North, as is very evident by her fair complexion and hair colour - not something that is as common here in the South." As she spoke, Maithera gestured to to the body parts in question. "So we do have a burn risk already, however as you can see, Ysolde already has substantial burn scars on her back, these travel from her nape of her neck to almost the small of her back with some extension onto the tops of her shoulders and top of her arms. These burns are significant and still susceptible to sun damage, as is evident here..." Maithera pointed to the angry sunburn on Ysolde's arms and neck.

"Ysolde is provided with protective lotions and given a strict regime in order to prevent further burn.. such as?" And here she looked pointedly at Ysolde who took the cue. "Wear a hat and cover up," she mumbled but loud enough to be audible.

On Mon, Aug 6, 2018 at 7:34 PM Lindsay <alexeden1971@...> wrote:
Ishkana immediately backtracked. "Of course, mam," she answered the journeywoman, and came into the cubicle. She smiled slightly at the young woman. "Hello, I'm Ishkana. Please, let me help you." She looked briefly but enquiringly at Journeywoman Maithera. "May I ask the patient's history, mam?"

On 6 August 2018 at 19:17, Nutmeg <nutmeg.witch@...> wrote:
"You've been told before about being more careful Ysolde, you can't keep letting yourself get burned like this!"

The voice of the Healer coming through the curtains was exasperated, as though they had given this particular lecture many, many times before.

"If you're not going to use the ointments we make for you, we'll end up stopping making them altogether, or give them to someone else."

The voice that followed was morose and feeling more than a little sorry for itself.

"I know. I just.. I was looking for raw gems near the Lake. I didn't realise I had been out so long."

"That's all well and good, but now I've got to sign you off outdoor lessons for at least a sevenday so this burn can heal. You don't want to  be making an enemy of Candidatemaster Nayari, she's stern enough without you being in her bad books as well."

A loud sigh followed, chased after by a pained yelp.

"No, don't try and do it on your own." Maithera stuck her head out of the curtains and spotted a passing Apprentice. "Ishkana!" the Journeywoman smiled at her, beckoning her in. "Ysolde here could use a hand, she's sustained some very nasty sunburn on existing scars, would you be so kind to come and help? She needs a hand putting this ointment on."

And inside the cubicle, sat on the bed with a vest on to preserve her modesty, was a very sulky looking Ysolde, bottom lip thrust out as she awkwardly tried to remain comfortable.

Re: Queuing for Breakfast - Second Day of the #medhunt (ATTN: Anybody!) #medhunt

"Well," Asheran began, then used the shortening breakfast queue as an excuse to shuffle forward and gather his thoughts. "Yesterday, heading to the cook line for dinner, I took a shortcut, and there were a couple there in the bushes who were coupling, ah, you know." He made an okay sign with one hand, and poked the index finger of his other hand through the circle his thumb and index finger made, looking at the older man with what he hoped was a very knowledgeable look. Then he turned his head to the side, eyes slanting upward in thought.

"...and it made me think of home -- not in that way, I didn't have a girl or anything, I wouldn't dishonour any of the girls back home like that without a promise out of it, but just... I started thinking about my family, and how it's been awhile since I've seen them. It had me feeling a bit low and lonely." He chewed on the inside of his cheek, then nodded and continued, as if self-reassured by his own response: "And we'd had a lesson a couple days before about our fears and that, and it must have just weighed on me. So I had a bad dream about being on the sands again, about maybe getting injured... But I'm not afraid of being hurt, I don't think, so I don't know why I'd dream that."

"Yeah, didn't sleep well." Asheran half-turned to the other man in the queue, then spotted the bronzerider knot and brought his hand up, touching his knuckle to his temple. "Bronzerider," he acknowledged politely, then lowered his arm.

"Just bad dreams. I guess I fell asleep with something weighing on me."

A slight grimace slid across Kyn'dras's face at the salute. "That's really not necessary. Really." He protested mildly. "It's Kyn'dras. Just Kyn'dras." Now it was his turn to take a moment to study Asheran's knots, though he made no comment.

"And you really shouldn't be falling asleep underneath heavy objects." He quipped lightly "Health hazard, you know." Another grimace twisted his face. "Sorry. Bad joke. Very bad joke." He scrubbed a hand across his face. "It's too early for this. Anyways, what's been weighing on you - if you don't mind me asking?"

Kenzia heard the other girl yell an tilted her head.  She had no idea why she was even here but she had decided maybe she needed to get out and met more people.  Pushing through the throng until she saw the female candidate she gave a little smile to her. “Umm sure if you no one else has come over yet?”  It was almost shy the smile she gave her. She didn’t want to push her way in but she also knew that if she didn’t get out more she was going to end up much more lonely than she was now.  She needed friends and this was one way to do it right?

When no one replied directly to her post, Ysolde tried to quell the disappointment and told herself that people probably just hadn't been paying attention. Instead, she trotted along to the main meeting point. She really wanted to go out on this adventure but at the same time, didn't want to lie to her father and go out on her own. Not to  mention, that just wouldn't be any fun at all.

Finding the gathered troops, flanked by various seniors, Crafters and Candidatemasters, Ysolde decided to be brave and just go for it. Cupping her hands around her mouth, she shouted over the group. "Anyone want to team up and go searching together?"

She had no idea what they were even meant to be looking for but maybe the Healers would fill them in on that. She had heard someone say something about numbweed and other plants that the Healers use, but her knowledge about plants was about as comprehensive as fresh snow before someone walked on it. In other words, blanker than a new slate.

When she had told her father that she had signed up to go on this exploration to the ruins with the Healers, he had been less than enamoured with the idea.Even less so when he decided that the Candidates were going to be allowed to practically run riot. Not true, of course, but that was fatherly paranoia for you.

Eventually, after sending a stern letter to Nayari enquiring about the matter, Ysolde had been given his blessings to go. Sort of. But only under strict instructions that she was to find a buddy and that she wasn't going to be going ANYWHERE without them. But it was a compromise at least. After the lecture about keeping covered up, carrying plenty of water and wearing a hat.

The afternoon before they were supposed to set off, Ysolde set up a notice on the main message board at the front of the Barracks. There was no way that it wasn't going to  be seen by at least someone, you had to pass it every time you left the Barracks.

Looking for an adventurer!
Are you joining the Healer hunt?
Looking for someone to stick with?
Meet me here after breakfast tomorrow!

No, it wasn't exactly award winning prose, but hopefully it would catch someone's eye. Truth be told, the more she thought on it, the more she thought that having someone to go with was probably the best thing to do. Didn't someone mention a wher attack the last time?

So there she was after breakfast, her bag packed with all the essential supplies she could think of, waiting nervously by her notice. Well, if push came to shove, she would just join the group and hope for the best, but hopefully it wouldn't come to that.

Maark'l thought on the images that the little bronze was showing him. A moving bright light that just disappeared. Even that was something new. "I'm not sure what that could be little one. I don't think I've even seen something like that before."

As he was falling the flit, he watched to see if he could find the owner. Maybe he might be able to fill in some more information about what it was that was seen. ((Not sure, Beckarth, but it looks like a fireball.))

Lerian spotted Sandy, and the rider he'd found just ahead of him, and still down hill on the path. He tried to slow down, he really did, but running down the Rim path full speed, left him too little time and space to adequately react. Putting his left foot down to try and stop, since he had stopped looking at his footing it came down in a pile of loose rocks, that combined with momentum launched the boy right off his feet, and towards the rider.

Sandy gave an alarmed squeel and grabbed ahold of the boy's hair trying to stop the inevitable tumble, unfortunately all he ended up with was a clawful of Lerian's hair
