A very young, very small green flit suddenly appeared above the patch of plants, darting here and there a bit wildly, in what was either a confused manner, or a playful one. Then she landed near the edge of the group, and began to wallow in the plants, her wings outspread with a burst of utter happiness.

Trometh wasn't really sure why his rider liked to volunteer for things so much. But at least this time there was a lot of sun, and just enough breeze to feel good. D'vik had left both of his flits with Trometh, as an attempt to keep Fabio out of trouble. Not that Trometh minded watching the flits much. So once they were done unloading, and D'vik had told Trometh to go enjoy the sun, he was happy to do so. He walked through some of the underbrush, and stepped on a plant. What happened next surprised him. It released the most wonderful smell! Trometh picked his forepaw up and sniffed deeply feeling a happy relaxation. This was perfect. And there were more, with a pleased rumble, Trometh folded his wings and sat down and rolled over several of the plants, crushing them thoroughly.

Fabio, who had until this point been sitting on a tree limb next to his little brother Elon, cocked his head first to one side, then the other watching his big brother. Trometh never acted so silly, and without waiting for permission, Fabio chased after the rolling blue, and then the smell hit him too. He dropped into a mass of crushed leaves and began rolling in them chittering loudly his happiness. Elon waited a few moments, watching the pair with a little disdain, then he decided he's better do something about it. That lasted about as long as it took the young flit to land on Trometh's side. He took a deep sniff, then rubbed himself against the blue dragon.

Trometh was pleased that his little friends were enjoying themselves too. Then he called out, to other dragons, flits, whers and even humans. ((Oh this stuff is lovely, come and try it!))

-----------

Wyelloth was a little way off when the blue dragon called, and she wiggled her way through the brush until she stood over him, watching him roll in the plants. The green was generally a happy dragon, and reached out with a paw and broke off a leaf. ((Ooooh mmm that smells so Good Trometh! Like the smelly stuff mine wears for her mate, only better!))

----------------

Trometh hummed acceptance of the green's comments, his eyes whirling a slow happy green blue. ((It does, doen't it, hey! Hey you, Over there! Come here and smell this stuff!))

((Me.)) Nerenth replied at nearly the same time Sunstreath did, then he also responded with a roar of his own before launching himself after the dazzling little green. She seemed very much in a playful mood, and he liked that. Of course, it had been some time since they were involved in a flight, even a green.
Below, Zy'fen shuddered and started for the flightrooms in a hurry, flightstraps still clenched in his fist. Nothing registered until he got to the room where the green's rider had taken refuge, then Zy focused on him, a very intent look on his face and in his eyes.

OOC: Apparently the shift key getting stuck momentarily just before hitting enter sends the message.  Sorry about that.  Here is the actual post.
IC:
Zy'fen had come outside after eating the evening meal, intending to take advantage of the last of the daylight to polish amd repair harness straps ans buckles, while Nerenth spread his wings nearby to capture the last of the day's warmth on outspread wings while working at a bit of dry skin around the talons on his left forefoot. The pair seemed to be ignoring most of what was going on around them, though the brown Nerenth wasn't altogether oblivious of the tense goings on not that far from them. A proddy green was nothing new, though this would be their first encounter with one since transferring to a new Weyr.

Nereth had just raised his head to give the smaller green a sharp look, which earned a glance from Zy'fen, who had now taken notice of the situation. When Nerenth rose to his feet suddenly, Zy'fen slowly stood too, harness straps dangling from his hand, while his eyes flicked toward the man he assumed was the green's rider.

---------

Revith had been enjoying the last rays of sun on his ledge for the evening.  The blue had his wings fanned as he tilted and leaned in his sitting position to let the fading sun catch any part of the swirling blue hide on his wings.

Irissa was already settled into her weyr working on a patch on her flight jacket from the last fall.  They had not been injured but she had gotten some holes in her leathers from hot char.  She had already eaten earlier more comfortable going to the Hall when it was the least crowded.  She could feel the contentment in her blue as he sunned so was calm and happy.

Revith though as he rotated to try and catch a better beam of sun noticed the skittering green in the bowl.   He had not chased since he had returned to Arolos from the North.  Revith the sun forgotten for the moment turned to look from his ledge at the bright green, she was young and glorious looking with her light green hide but it was not all light green.  No she had darker points and touch of lighter on her tail.  Revith could not help the rumble that very softly came forth as the natural urge started for grow in him.

Irissa had been ignoring her blue for the most part once he noticed the green.  Revith had watched a few greens since being back but thankfully had not given him more than his notice.  It was as she felt the rumble in his throat that she looked up from her work ((Rev what are you doing?))

The blue shifted from foot to foot for a moment as he watched the tantalizing young green {{watching a lovely young green.}}  As she took to the air Revith trumpeted and took wing in chase.

Irissa felt a cold shiver pass over her at his worlds but it was quickly followed by a rush of lust.  With a resigned sigh, she rose quickly making her way to the flight room.  One of her last conscious thoughts was stepping into the room before her mind started to become more Rev then her own.

-------------

((Me.)) Sunstreath answered, when the green called to him, his own mental voice a low rumble, shifting from where he'd been waiting, watching the green.

At her call, and then her challenge, he answered her bugle with a mighty one of his own, informing all listening- and his rider- that he was chasing.

In the next moment, he was shaking out his wings and launching after her.

"...Shard it, Sunstreath, a little warning next time!" I'des jolted up from where he'd been slipping into a doze, scrambling to his feet and looking around, a bit wildly, for the nearest path to the flight rooms.

...That way. Right.

=================

Kyuuth saw the males following her into the sky.  1, 2 ,3...?  There would more than that surely once the game got into full swing, for now it would just be these 3.  {{COME PLAY!  COME CHASE!}}  She roared back at them without pausing her ascent into the sky, being carried there on still strong wingbeats, looking like she'd rested well beforehand.  {{But you're NOT allowed to catch me in the safe zones!  WHICH OF YOU CAN GUESS BEST WHERE I'LL GO WHEN I LEAVE THEM?}}  Those words ended on a challenging bugle.  Going silent she focused on flying, on gaining altitude, as she didn't feel they were high enough to start her actual game.

A'kin moved to the middle of the flightroom.  The back was too far away, the front too close, where he stopped felt right and he tossed the straps further back into the flightroom, not really caring where they landed.  He heard them land, but was already turning toward the door, ready for the chasers to show themselves.  "Come on."  He breathed out and to the first that stepped in breathed out a playful.  "You're going to come play, riiiight?"

Re: Fancy Seeing You Here Attn Zy'fen

Amy Frazey

Zy'fen and Nerenth took wing after thr younger pair, and circled in a different direction, seeking a place to go that was away from the other activity. They turned when Robith pointed out the lake, ((We see it....Do you think I need a bath?)) Nerenth didnt think so, his Zy'fen had been good about removing all the dust from his hide. But maybe....
They circled toward the lake the others had found, and Nerenth mentally queried Zy ((Do you think I need a bath?))

Zy'fen nodded. He had honestly been getting a little bored. He'd brushed all the dust he could see, off both himself and Nerenth, and with nobody around, had begun to contemplate taking a nap. Or finding food. Or going back to the weyr. But going somewhere with another rider, that was a much better idea, and it would get them away from the stench.
So after J'lin mounted Robith again, Zy'fen climbed into his own saddle and waited for the younger pair to take off.

They rose gently into the air and circled above the trees, looking for a suitable place to land.

((Do you see over by that lake?)) Robith spoke directly to Nerenth. ((There's enough room to come down. And--)) there was a note of humour in his voice ((you and yours could have another bath if you wanted.))

"Eh." She squinted a touch, pulling the wineskin back for another pull, then offered it out again, more freely: "Never tried the drinking stuff. How's that even happen? Got to be some kind'a..." She trailed off, pursuing her lips, then gave her head a hard shake. Whoever had given her this stuff hadn't been joking - it wasn't watered down. She felt heavy. "I'm Sahari. Don't think you're in my wing, but I'm re-cshent."

Is this normal? (attn Vashinta / Ishkana)

Lindsay

Ishkana was starting to settle in to her new life in the Weyr. It still had its very odd moments and she still wasn't entirely comfortable with some of the things that went on, but it was quite possibly a normal reaction from someone holdbred as she was. She didn't know that for certain, but she knew she had to get used to it.

There were some things though that she really wasn't sure of - one of them being her. And learning healing meant she knew a little more than before. Enough to know that something wasn't quite right.

When she found a relatively quiet time, she approached one of the more senior healers for some advice. "Vashinta, mam? Do you have a little time so I could speak with you please?" she asked tentatively. This wasn't going to be easy, but it needed doing.

“Well you know I had a son right? He was fostered but I still made sure he was fine.  We even have a sort of relationship now, getting to know him and all that.”  Ok’lin snorted, “he’s 12 and talking about being a candidate, I’ve told him, Kalisi, that he should wait a bit.” He wasn’t all that keen on his 12 turn old experiencing the violence of flight even though he had been raised in the Weyr.

“My daughter is Okana.”  He gave a wry smile, “neither of them were on purpose though.  Flight babies, I don’t know if I’d ever chose to have a child.  I just chose to ask them to not kill them before they were born.”  He shrugged.

You never itch afterwards? The bronze's mindtone was thoughtful. It definitely sounded like it had exfoliating or moisturising effects. I will ask my rider to take us there sometime. I must investigate for myself. He took the mind picture from the green, nodding slowly in acknowledgement. And how long do you leave it on for?

Of course this wasn't the first time, and likely would not be the last either.

((It feels lovely I never itch after. Here it looks like this.)) The green's mind filled with a small dock, a wide floodplain, the river with many channels heading into the ocean, and the spot with her special mud, three sandbars away from the town nearby. ((But now mine tells me I must be clean. It is alright though. we will go back soon.))

Awsonth looked Stakarth over carefully. It is possible that such deep, fine silt is extremely good for the hide. Softening and cleansing properties, perhaps. I believe that there are some ladies who would want to try it for themselves. Will you show me pictures of where it was?

Teyra couldn't help smiling a little at the bronze rider, as she took his hand to get up. Once on her feet she told him, "Thanks, I'm Teyra, this mudball is Stakarth. Somewhere under there is a green dragon believe it or not." There wasn't much that could be told about Teyra at the moment, other than she had long hair and golden eyes, and was a tiny little thing. The rest, like her dragon was covered currently in mud.

Stakarth rumbled happily at the bronze ((We went to where the river joins the sea, it drops lots of mud there. Mine went to buy some things, and I decided to take a mud bath while I waited. It was totally worth the looks on some of the people's faces.)) She snorted once at the thoughts. ((You'd think they'd never seen a muddy dragon before!))

Awsonth rumbled at the green. You are incredibly covered. Where did you find such a deep wallow? Was it warm mud or cool? Perhaps this was useful information that he could pass on to someone else at a later date.

Teyra took a moment to reply. Both rider, and dragon were covered in a grey brown muck. The mud was seemingly everywhere on the skinny green, but she didn't seem the least bit concerned. In fact she looked obscurely pleased with the mess she'd created. Teyra, had been tugging at the last bit of straps, the mud had effectively glued shut, and when it gave, she toppled over, landing on her butt in the sand.

"Shards, but that one was stuck!" Only then did she seem to notice the bronze pair landing nearby. She sat up, wiping a grimy hand across her forehead and gave him a bashful smile.

"Uh sorry about that, yes it is a lovely day..." Teyra would have continued, perhaps appologising for their appearance, but Stakarth took up the conversation, ((Yes it is, it was a lovely day, and I found mud. It feels so nice on my hide.))

But if we bath now I can dry in the sun without needing to move. Awsonth as usual was being.. not exactly lazy, but conserving the strength in his back legs. If there was no need for him to take flight again after the bath, why should he? Then you can go and eat, and we can fly back up later.

T'od couldn't fault his logic, which was no surprise,so he agreed and the pair winged their way down to the lake. One of their preferred spots was already taken by a number of splashing and cavorting young dragons, so they went a little further than normal. Coming down by a green pair, whose names T'od wasn't sure of, he waved anyway as he removed Awsonth's harness.

"Lovely day for it, isn't it?" he called across to the green's rider.

Ishkana nodded as the healer gave her Ysolde's history, wincing slightly at the severity of the scarring - and sunburn on top? Ouch.

"Ysolde, can I ask, is there a reason why you didn't follow the advice and you got sunburned today?" Ishkana took the ointment and sniffed it, trying to identify other ingredients apart from numbweed.

Ysolde nodded, she was used to this and besides, it wasn't nosiness, it was professionalism. There was a difference. She waved at Ishkana, offering a small smile in return.

"Ysolde here hails from the North, as is very evident by her fair complexion and hair colour - not something that is as common here in the South." As she spoke, Maithera gestured to to the body parts in question. "So we do have a burn risk already, however as you can see, Ysolde already has substantial burn scars on her back, these travel from her nape of her neck to almost the small of her back with some extension onto the tops of her shoulders and top of her arms. These burns are significant and still susceptible to sun damage, as is evident here..." Maithera pointed to the angry sunburn on Ysolde's arms and neck.

"Ysolde is provided with protective lotions and given a strict regime in order to prevent further burn.. such as?" And here she looked pointedly at Ysolde who took the cue. "Wear a hat and cover up," she mumbled but loud enough to be audible.

The voice of the Healer coming through the curtains was exasperated, as though they had given this particular lecture many, many times before.

"If you're not going to use the ointments we make for you, we'll end up stopping making them altogether, or give them to someone else."

The voice that followed was morose and feeling more than a little sorry for itself.

"I know. I just.. I was looking for raw gems near the Lake. I didn't realise I had been out so long."

"That's all well and good, but now I've got to sign you off outdoor lessons for at least a sevenday so this burn can heal. You don't want to  be making an enemy of Candidatemaster Nayari, she's stern enough without you being in her bad books as well."

A loud sigh followed, chased after by a pained yelp.

"No, don't try and do it on your own." Maithera stuck her head out of the curtains and spotted a passing Apprentice. "Ishkana!" the Journeywoman smiled at her, beckoning her in. "Ysolde here could use a hand, she's sustained some very nasty sunburn on existing scars, would you be so kind to come and help? She needs a hand putting this ointment on."

And inside the cubicle, sat on the bed with a vest on to preserve her modesty, was a very sulky looking Ysolde, bottom lip thrust out as she awkwardly tried to remain comfortable.

That is not true.

Sahari shot a look over the heads and bent backs of the herb-hunting Healers and Healer helpers, glancing at the blue dragon lounging half in, half out of the shade some distance away. Oachayth's multi-faceted eyes were half-lidded; he was clearly enjoying the warmth that had driven her to drink.

Well, somebody thought it was true, she reasoned, took another healthy swig from the wineskin and capped it, then jiggled the thing in front of the gape-faced whoever that was standing one pot down the line.

"Who'd you sharding well piss off?" She asked F'rdnar, mistaking him for a kindred spirit. Why else would he be stewing in numbweed stink?

Her one consolation was that whoever was unlucky enough to have to hitch a ride back with her afterwards would also, by proxy, reek to high heaven. She hoped it was somebody important, just so she could watch the stick twist up their butt.

I am flying back with you, you know. I will stink. Oachayth almost sounded plaintive, though there he was off in the distance, still lounging lazily, striped by the shade and sun.

No, she thought guiltily. I'll scrub the stink out of your hide before it can settle in.

And then, still holding it out to the young man, gave the wineskin another sloshing jig.

"Huh?"

(Sahari's wiry, darkly tanned, with some grey in her hair, and a nose that has obviously been broken and reset in the past - at least twice. There are pockmarks and scars and wrinkles on her face and bare arms. Her front tooth's chipped. She's got that slight upper arm flab sag that happens to older women, which sits at odds with the rest of her; she's like a tense, angry rubberband with hair.)

F'rdnar looked toward the wineskin, pondering whether it might knock out his scene of smell as well as his tastebuds if he tried it.  In the ended he glanced toward the woman who was handing it to him and inclined his head.  "I've never tried any of the drinking stuff before.  I don't suppose it'll knoc' out my sense of smell for a little while will it?"  There was a little slip in his speech, a small one that he didn't actually notice at the moment.

Right.

=================

Zuhelth had felt something when the crowd started to get larger, but
it was hard to find it, find them. Why were there so many people? She
just wanted to find the fuzzy and special one that was all. But there
were so many here. So many looking and talking and being in the way.
No wait! There! The tiny green shifted the smallest bit until she
could try and see the movment she had caught. There? Maybe?
{{Pensherth? Pensherth, there}} she told the slightly larger blue
offering and image of the group of people {{Maybe the falling one?}}

The stocky blue shifted his head making it appear like he was watching
the gathered people, but was really watching his tiny green wingmate.
{{That one? But he is falling. We can't have falling riders.}} he
questioned the green who offered him a pathetic look and a wave of
pleeding in return {{Ok Zuhelth, ok.}} he agreed shifting his full
attention to the spot she had shown him. It took him a moment to try
and pick out the one he wanted, but with so many together it wasn't
perfect and he ended up having to reach out to about 4 of the people
instead as he just couldn't tell which one he needed exlactly.
{{Little falling one are you ok? Why don't you come out here in case
it happens again so you don't hit anyone. You can come sit with me and
Zuhelth while Zuhelth's talks to the people.}} He offered trying to
lure the person out so they could find out if the person was the one
the little green wanted.

His head turned a few inches in one direction before Qioyon stopped himself.  No one in the Hold would've used the term 'Little Falling One' and the name he heard moments later definitely belonged to a dragon.  Zuhelth & Zuhelth's?  Qioyon gave the person he'd bumped into an apologetic, sheepish glance to let them know he wasn't forgetting about his little misstep, before he moved out away from the crowd.  Once out in the open he could see the green and blue better.

"Don't feel good," Megin grumbled, " But I don't need a healer. Just a little of this. I'm *not* being sent home early. Again." She quickly stuffed one of the leaves into her mouth, glaring at the other girl, daring her to say she oughtn't.

Phyllia quickly straightened up, turning to see who had come up behind
her.  Another girl, a weyrling from her knots, and one who didn't look
so well.  The Weyrling also recognized the plant, so maybe she was
someone who had been studying as a healer before Impressing?  Given
how she was looking, though, Phyllia was of the opinion that this girl
ought to be lying down somewhere in the shade, and not be up doing
anything too physical, especially in the sun.

"Yeah, I just stumbled onto this patch," Phyllia said, coming to offer
the girl a hand if she needed it.  "I was just about to take some of
the stuff back to the healers, to have them confirm what it was.
Here, you can put yours in here too, and we can share credit for the
find."

She offered her basket to the weyrling, waiting for her to add the
leaves she'd picked up to those Phyllia had collected.  "There's a
skin of water in here too, you look like you could use some.  And a
rest.  And maybe...have a healer look you over?  You don't look too
great."
