Fall? Jerronila blinked, suddenly realising that of course Fall here at a Weyr would be more than the doors being locked and everyone being grumpy.
"...Do riders get hurt lots?" She asked, looking a bit queasy at the thought of threadfall.

"Yes,sir." Jerronila said, beaming with happiness.
Copywork was easy, and she already knew most of these.
Everything was going to be wonderful.

"Good lass. Time you're done you need to be able to pull these out of your brain in the middle of a bad Fall when someone yells a question across a room at you," Cremsden said. "And they will. Not always time to look things up, not in an emergency."

While J'lin slid down, Nerenth snorted and turned his attention to an itchy spot on his side. Zy'fen turned, dust cloth still in hand, and gave J'lin a nod. His manner was a jit more polite than Nerenth's had been, and there was a slight smile to go with it. " 'Lo Jools. I'd heard you went back to Arolos." He shrugged at the blunt tone and pointed question, trying to be at least somewhat friendly. "We won't be the ones traipsing through the woods or getting our hands and claws dirty, digging in the dirt. We're just the rides, right?"

"Yeah, but you stand about looking like you've got nothin' to do and what's the betting they'll find you a job?" J'lin pointed out. He considered Zy'fen, and then decided it was worth making an effort. "I hear numbweed stewing stinks, and I'm pretty sure you'd hate it. Want to come make yourself scarce with me before someone tries to make us useful?"

The pair were looking cheerfully crumpled. Robith had at least been thoroughly oiled before they came out, but mostly that meant that dust was now sticking to the oil and J'lin hadn't bothered to change before he came because really, what was the point when you were scrambling around in the wilderness? He slid off Robith's back, deciding that he might as well get it over with.

"Wouldn't have thought this was your scene," he commented, a little bluntly. "Isn't it a bit messy for you two?"

If you were late for drills, because you'd overslept, you could expect some kind of punishment. And honestly, as far as it went, being on lift duty for a Healer expedition seemed a relatively mild penalty so J'lin didn't mind too much. Seemed like most of the job would be getting people there and then as it was an interesting enough spot he and Robith could sneak off and explore a bit while being in ear-shot for a dragon shout if needed.

It was a good plan, only spoiled by landing next to someone far too familiar. Someone he hadn't seen since Ista. J'lin might have attempted toslip away before he was noticed but Robith was already greeting them, if not too enthusiastically.

((Oh -- hello, Nerenth. Aren't you at Ista?))

Teyra looked down at the bottom of the tree and swallowed hard. The wher didn't seem upset, but she had no idea what it would take to set the beast off. Game? What was the darned thing thinking? Teyra thought fast..maybe it would work..

"Uh yea, a game, hide and seek, good job you found me, now it's your turn to Go Hide."

Maybe that would give her a chance to get away.

Jerronila nodded.
"Father said he'd be happy whatever I did. I like studying."
And if she stayed craftless, she'd be married off and cleaning up after babies anyway.
Lots of reading to go with the cleaning would be so much better than listening to screaming babies.

"Good and that answers my next question. No limit of studying in here." Cremsden stood up abruptly, heading for a cupboard at the back of the room. He rummaged, found a sheet of the most common herbs, dosages and side-effects, and headed back to hand it to her.

"Start with these," he said. "Copy them out when it's quiet -- you can use this room as much as you need to as long as you're not needed. Give me this sheet back when you're done then learn them. When you think you're done, tell me and I'll test you and give you another. Got it?"

Surely That Is What Numbweed Smells Like Attn Any #medhunt

Laura Walker

If you were going to volunteer for a Healer trip without any real skills, you couldn't really complain about what job you were given. And as R'tal had mostly come along to ensure K'ren didn't accidentally get himself eaten by whers he didn't really mind what they actually set him to do.

Still, from the way K'ren had talked about it you would have thought that watching numbweed stew was one of the most unpleasant jobs on earth. He'd talked of it in a way that suggested that if he'd tried to do it near the Weyr there might be a barrage of complaints at the very least. R'tal sniffed and shrugged. It didn't smell too badly to him, but then what did he know?

"This is an easier job than I expected," he commented to those tasked with watching with him, giving the pot an idle stir. "Is there anything we're meant to do other than watch it for burning?"

Hush Hush Whisper Who Dares Attn Zanran #medhunt

Laura Walker

The thing about having non-Healers and apprentices to do all the manual labour was that, while it saved everyone above apprentice a certain amount of back-breaking labour they still had to run around and check everyone was actually doing their jobs right. Assuming that people would at least vaguely know what they were doing was... well, it wasn't a safe assumption at the very least. So it was run check on a couple of the numbweed pots, check on the folk he had quietly looking for a certain plant, make sure no one was about to keel over with dehydration and then trot out to the (unexpected and very welcome) fellis fields to see how things were going out there.

By which time Cremsden was looking rather hot, sweaty and uncomfortable.

"How's it going?" he greeted the first person he came across. Odd that, he looked vaguely familiar but wore Sr Apprentice knots. Cremsden had thought he knew most of that rank pretty well right now.

Almira was grinning as she carried her sleeping, newly hatched flit out of the Candidates common room. She couldn't seem to stop, or get over what a thrill it had been to help the tiny creature break free of it's egg. She still held the bit of shell with the flower petal on it, and headed for the infirmary, hoping to catch the attention of someone who might know what type of flower the red petal had come from. She had a good idea, but simply couldn't remember the flowrt's name.
